10:00 Im pretty certain that that is the NTC thermistor. It decreases resistance when it heats up. It is there to protect FBR from inrush current of the big smoothing capacitor and as it heats up, the resistance drops which improves efficiency rather than having resistor which wastes ton of power

Are you sure? Thermistors are typically thermally coupled to the fbr. Also I have seen those on boards far away from FBRs

Love your Tektornix 2232. :) I had one a few decades back for a special project, and absolutely loved it! In spite of today's digital scopes, wish I had one now. Sadly every time I look, they sell for far too much compared to the more capable digital scopes that sell for $300 or less. :(

You are a very talented young man and it seems to me that you are learning very fast! That is also a talent - concentration! Behave of my family, I wish you great future, but mainly health, that is the most important of all! Listen to your body and meditate, because that will open your brainwaves into Stratosfere+

I have tried different power supplies and different uses for them, I have developed some kind of basic understanding what to avoid where, but I would like to see optimization ideas. To clarify: If i have to use switching psu with old audio equipment, how to get rid of the whizzing and how to get rid of hum, while using new audio equipment, that does not account for grid frequency hum. What happens when I use linear regulator directly after transformer psu or switching psu to try to smooth it out. Essentially it might be possible to provide rough voltage, that is regulators voltage drop plus roughness margin and the useful voltage? That could minimize the loss and provide awesome fast smoothing.

Take a 1000 watt high pressure sodium ballast transformer and chop out the secondary coil. Then you can wrap it with whatever secondary coin you want. I have 16 turns of 4 awg to charge super capacitors in seconds. Cheers

Do you have a PO box? If so, you should share it so people can send you cool stuff! Edit: Also, in most isolated SMPS they have a flyback diode across the primary to protect the transistor. Great video tho man!

I have back massager that won't turn on. I have a few of them, but can I mail you a couple of them to see if you can find the problem and post it on youtube? I will ship it out free and you can keep them after it's repaired.
