Line Weight Communicates So Much More Than You Think

Join the premium course to continue learning - proko.com/drawing
In this lesson, we explore the art of combining line weight methods to create a unique drawing style. Drawing is akin to learning a language, where one starts with random "noises" and gradually develops complexity. This demo combines three methods: importance, light direction/shadows, and depth, using tools like line thickness, line value, and line tapering.
Remember that developing your style can be as simple or complex as you desire. Focusing on different aspects, such as color or shape design, and practicing through exploration will help you develop a unique voice. By practicing line weight in focused exercises, you'll intuitively make better decisions when creating artwork and improve your overall drawing skills and understanding of line dynamics.

I'm interested in drawing although it's less like I want to and more like I have to.(Though it's my personal matter) But there is a huge problem for some super begginers like me . Who don't even know how to draw a straight line. We all know that a man makes perfect but if we do it wrong way it's not going to make any progress. So we need a guideline for begining drawing . I mean, like what should I learn at the very beginning? than what? and what after that and so on. I think if you make a video about these it would be so helpful for some super begginer like me.

I'll ask my family to visit their store and record live so I can compare the prices lol. My brother went and was prescribed antibiotics and other medications and it costs him like 2 dollars. Very cheap there but depends on what

Personally, I’ve noticed that when considering line weight, less is more. So I’ll choose 2 or 3 “reasons” to adjust my lines, rather than finding every “reason” possible, and overworking it. I suggest studying how your personal “art parents” approach line weight, and trying those out on quick smaller drawings (so you can try lots over a shorter period of time) and choose your preferences from there. Great video, very helpful!

Probably it makes sense (more easier especially for beginners) to start with the dimension of Width-Thickness and then follow with the step for line values. It is also in synch (more consistent as a workflow) with the erasing part displayed by Stan at the end.

Question. At the beginning of the video, we establish that we're going to make the value of the line the darkest in the darkest parts (shadow). But i can't help thinking - in certain lighting scenarios, the "lines" would be more conspicuous on the lit side, not in shadow. So i wonder, wouldn't it make more sense to make lines on the lit side darker, at least in certain cases? Or would we rather bring blurriness into play, but keep the lines on the darkest side darker? What would be more effective/make more sense?

I want to get better at figure sculpture and was thrilled to find you had a 3D teacher under your umbrella, UNTIL… I found his own channel where he makes racist, homophobic, sexist videos. @_Willow _ I've been illustrating for most of my life. I tried Midjourney out of curiosity. There's NO satisfaction found in just entering prompts to spew out pictures. But spending hours rendering a piece and seeing it to completion?? Especially with learning from Proko's foundations? Is the best feeling. It's true pleasure. But prompts feel empty. Like sneezing or smth lmao

@@Khymeira yes using proko advanced techniques to make a art which would take years to first learn and nearly perfect. Why you think all the professional artists have drawn for more than 10 years ? Why would normal people give decades to master their craft when they can instead put a few minutes to get a peace they want ? Wish ai was done better because I would love to use it and make comics rather than draw 16 hours a day to fill deadlines and get my passion exploited explicitly. Sadly ai can't just copy your imagination in your brain. and put it on paper. Prompting right now isn't accurate. What feels empty is drawing everyday for years and still not being good enough at art and wonder what the hell are you even doing here. Not one day I go trough feeling happy about what I do. I will be when Im good enough to draw but for that im looking into more years of gruesome practice
