Linda's work product consists of 28 studio albums, 63 singles and a live album Her tours had no fancy dancing, backup dancers, fireworks, smoke effects. Just the band, their instruments and a tiny woman standing behind a microphone with a voice that few can touch.

Bless her heart..she's an older lady now who suffers with Parkinson's. But in her day...no one could touch her talent. Except maybe Karen Carpenter. I have those two as top tier talent back when music really moved you.

Linda dominated female singers and rightfully so. I think being a woman in the business was a hurdle and usually got less radio play time. jus an incredible one of a kind talent and career. I loved the Kennedy Honors, she so deserved the tribute.

Sonya, I am a long time music fan, mainly classical and jazz, and notable vocals. I think that there have been many, many great male vocalists, and near impossible to put any one on top. But Linda sets on top of all female vocalists, including today's Lady gaga (who can really sing) and Taylor swift, who has sold over 300 million albums, as compared to Linda's 100 million. I put Linda in a similar category as Mozart, clearly a whole cut above everyone else. And I agree that Karen Carpenter is the one who comes the closest, but she lacked the complete range and the ower Linda had. Vincent (09-06-2020)

She had one of the most powerful voices of anyone, both male or female. A gift from God. This drop dead gorgeous woman, was one of the top stars of the mid to late 1970s.

Jim Frederick My favorite Linda Ronstadt video is her recording Karla Bonhoff's "Lose Again, " in the recording studio with her stalwart musicians Andrew Gold and Kenny Edwards and her manager looking on. She was famously her harshest critic, but in this video, when she sings that last note, she seems to know she nailed it. She looks into the camera and gives a little shrug-happy and humble at the same time. Endearing to see Jamel react to her for the first time. That same look crossed the faces of millions of young men all those many decades ago.

@@lnl3237 Karla Bonoff is a treasure - so many great songs, both lyrically and the melody. Linda championed her and other musicians by seeking them out and using them, which helped both. Linda and Karla sure produced some great classics. I think she talked Karla into doing her own singing/gigs, etc. Your so right about her "perfectionism", and she sure did surround herself with great back-up musicians !!! I have seen her in concert, too. I'm grateful .

Was just a casual fan back in the day; I was an old movie buff who really got excited when she entered her Nelson Riddle phase. Will always regret not seeing her live-you were fortunate indeed. They say her voice live was just a natural wonder to behold. Heard her in a radio interview from the early 80's say she wanted to record an album of just Karla Bonhoff songs. My interest in Ms. Bonhoff was really piqued when I saw her in the documentary "The Sound of My Voice" last fall. Bought a 2 CD set earlier this year and just love it. Have KZreadd her singing as a member of the band Bryndle with other Linda Ronstadt band members Andrew Gold and Kenny Edward's and Wendy Waldman as a backup vocalist. My favorite Karla Bonhoff songs are "Goodbye My Friend" (my 14 year old dog is snoring at my feet as I type this-but this is the song pet owners turn to when they lose their critters; Ms. Bonhoff wrote it after losing her 16 year old cat) and "The Water Is Wide." And if course, Linda Ronstadt's versions are just as lovely and moving. Thanks again for responding-it's a lonely, sad time in the world and it's comforting to have the beautful, familiar voices of the artists we love to reassure us, entertain us, and remind us of our common humanity. Also, great to see younger generations discovering and marveling at the voice of this extraordinary and beautiful woman. All the best to you.

Ah finally! Linda Ronstadt is one of the best song stylists/ interpreters ever. If her voice "strikes a chord" with you, it's because she was the queen of "cover" songs in the 70s. She took many pop hits from the 60s (A Different Drum, Tracks of My Tears, Just One Look, You're No Good) and made them mega pop/ rock hits throughout the 70s. She can literally sing every style & genre of music... Even in Spanish! Her dynamic vocal range as you can hear totally captivates the heart and soul. She's passionate singer!

She just received the Kennedy Center Honors Award last year. Sadly, she has Parkinson's and can no longer sing. At one time, her band consisted of Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Randy Meisner, and Bernie Leadon who left her band and formed The Eagles. Not sure if you have reacted to The Eagles, but that is another rabbit hole. Be careful however, The Eagles tend to be blockers. Rock on Brother Jamal.

Silver Threads and Golden Needles, Desperado, love has no pride, long way around, bet no one ever hurt this bad, blue bayou, long long time, in my reply, etc etc. The list of outstanding Linda Ronstadt songs is so long. You really cant go wrong. To me her first 5 solo albums are the best.

I know shes probably known best as a massive rock and pop star but I've been a 60s and 70s country fan my whole life, and her first 5 (and 6-8 a little less) are just pure country gold. A ton of the songs aren't really known at all, like a couple of the ones I mentioned, and those are my favorites. Those first 5 albums in my opinion is some of the best country ever recorded. Especially her 3rd album which I think gets lost. The personnel on that album is jaw droppingly good.

Yes... Desperado, definitely! You just want to melt. I think it was Glen Frey (of the Eagles) who essentially said that their big hit song was not really a success until Linda released her version of it.

@@jaangoad5855 that would make sense. Commercially, Desperado was a massive dud at its release (even though it's my favorite eagles album) and the radio stations had no idea what to do with it. Too country for the rock stations and too rock for the country stations and their lowest selling record. Alot of country/rock fusion bands had this problem finding an audience that appreciated both genres

This is Linda at the height of her pop/rock powers. Amazing band with the wonderful Don Grolnick on keyboards and the soooo underrated Waddy Wachtel on lead guitar. Absolute tragedy she can no longer sing but has left an incredible archive of material. You will probably know Blue Bayou, one of her biggest hits - great range in that song. Legend! Favourite album - 1974 Heart Like A Wheel - absolute killer track, Dark End of The Street - check her soaring vocals near the end of the song - goosebumps every time.

Yes ! I thought that was Wachtel, didn't they call him Wass? and didn't he produce as well ? She expected to do her best, and getting the best musicians that had similar goals was a real plus. The "reaction" (Jamal is the best) videos on YT are re-connecting me to my musical history. I'm a boomer, so I had the 60/70/80's as my era of music - we were so lucky !! MOST of the voices today can't compare to the ones I heard. No auto tune, either. I think that's what strikes some younger people about the music from those years, the voices, musicians all stood out and were more "pure" in their recordings/playing.

She did everybody's songs, from the Eagles, to Neal Young, all the way back to the 50s with Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers, and all the greats. I have all her records.

Lucky you!! I wish I'd seen her live. Such a beautiful talented singer. Her voice & range, the magic she does with the songs she covers - wow!! Love Linda.

You can find interviews with her, where she talks about still singing in her head. She's made peace with the fact that she can no longer sing. And she's still very beautiful.

She is one of the few artist to have won Grammy's in Rock, Country and Latin genres. She was one of the major stars of that era.

Back in 1989 I married the woman of my dreams this was one of hers and mine favorite songs. In 2011 she passed away after a 7 year battle with ovarian cancer. I played this song along with 2 others at her service. This is the 1st time I've listened to it since then. Me and my boys miss her so much and this song just makes me cry and smile at the same time.. Thanks for playing it.

Linda is an American treasure. Her talent goes way beyond her popular sound. Definitely worth digging into her body of work.

YES!!! One of the greatest voices of all time. I wondered when you would get here. She has a vast catalogue spanning over 30 years through different genres. You can travel down this road for a while for sure 😊

I think before 'The Eagles' were a thing.....THEY were her backup band. She was former Governor Jerry Brown's girlfriend for quite a while. I believe she's also done a LOT of backing vocals for folks like Neil Young, James Taylor, Jackson Browne, etc. on their albums. Still alive, but had to give up singing several years ago. CBS Sunday Morning did a segment on her a couple of years ago.

I teared up when I watched that documentary. She was a big part of the soundtrack of my life. I knew she had Parkinson's, but when I saw that doc it encapsulated how I truly felt about her.

Gorgeous women with spectacular voices in the 70s. Linda, Stevie... Oh my goodness, have mercy.

No auto tune needed here. This woman was the voice of the 70's. I had the great pleasure of seeing her in concert.

Blue Bayou Jamel, one of her best. lol OK, it was your next one. Good man.

Of all of Ronstadt's catalog, this one particular song for me captured her most vulnerable voice. The lyrics have you live in that same sense of despair when you need to be loved and settle for a one-night stand. She lets her heart break right before you. We all had been there wanting the next morning to matter and realizing that it never did.

The definition of confidence and generosity.... Letting your keyboardist solo for 3 minutes to start a song. 'Willin" 'Desperado"

Linda Ronstadt is widely regarded as having the best and most versatile singing voice of the 20th century. She can sing ANY and EVERY genre of modern music and has tackled them all with her precision and angelic tone. MY favorite album of hers is Prisoner In Disguise, a criminally underrated Desert Island album for me. Her Spanish language songs are just jaw-dropping, even compared to her performance here. No other singer in the 20th century could even touch her, other than maybe Karen Carpenter.

Linda Ronstadt was an excellent interpreter of some of the best songs written. Listen to one of her biggest hits, "You're No Good" and her magnificent version of Smokey Robinson's "Ooh Baby, Baby". Members of the Eagles ("Hotel California") were once her backing band and she encouraged them to go out on their own.

I've recommended Jamel react to Stevie Nicks, Live in Chicago "Edge of Seventeen", where Waddy gives an absolute Master Class of what to do with a white Les Paul and a boatload of 1/16th notes. Plus, you see the whole band. Waddy is epic! (Oh, yeah. That's absolutely Waddy. About the time the lot of them were just past playing Arizona bars, according to a reliable friend who was there at the time.)

'Hasten Down the Wind' is one of my top 5 fave albums.

This is one of my favorites of hers. So glad you watched the live version because it's amazing and really shows off her voice.

The song itself is stunning. It is haunting and sad and soulful. Amazing arrangement, musicianship, and then there is Linda’s subtle and powerful voice. “Hits you right in your soul.” You got that right Jamel❤️

Linda did not need gimmicks to give a good performance. Just good old fashioned singing. Truly one of the best singers of all time.

They say she was so cool. The guys in the Eagles said they were all in love with her,lol said she could even drink tequila with the guys;)

That's Waddy Wachtel on guitar. You can see and hear him on a lot of Stevie Nicks songs. He has always been Stevie's guitar player, outside of Fleetwood Mac of course. That was Lindsey Buckingham.

*WARREN ZEVON* my favorite singer/song writer wrote two songs for Ronstadt *Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me* and *Hasten Down the Wind* . You should do Zevon's *Send Lawyers, Guns, and Money* . Werewolves of London is just played too often and Zevon was sick of that song only as people thought that was the only song he wrote/sang. Another favorite for me is *Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner* . He studied with Igor Stravinsky and knew many. Jackson Browne, Springsteen, John Prine, Tom Petty, Neil Young, James Taylor, Bob Dylan ... *Old Man* and *Heart of Gold* by Neil Young are classic and he perfoms both for a small BBC crowd.

@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN Seeing Denver in your name, he also did "Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead". I think a movie (?) was released with this same title but Zevon's song predates this movie. So I'm not sure why it was chosen as movie title. The two songs you mentioned are also great one. I like "Desperadoes Under the Eaves" lyric wise and "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead".

Her ability to take on any genre and kill it is what makes her so amazing. Her mariachi album paying homage to her father is top notch.

I love so many of her songs...across many genres. "You're No Good" is definitely my favorite. You should really watch the documentary "Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice". Her career has been absolutely amazing.

We all know why all the musicians and men feel in love with sweet Linda. I remember her in 1968 or 69 with The Stone Ponies on a summer series that featured current talent. She was as beautiful on inside as she was on the outside. Loved Linda doing music with Dolly and Emmylou Harris. Harmony unmatchable. We love you Linda 💞✌

Although, I pray Ms. Ronstadt has many more days to enjoy her children and friendships and other things that engage her mind and heart, for me, it felt like a last chance to say good-bye to her and thank you for enriching our lives in ways she might never fully comprehend. Just awesome venue and famous. Got to see several bands there and I'm grateful. There is a new documintery out now and I'm going to watch it on HBO. She doesn't cry easily, so I know she was very moved by the whole thing. Classy.

Can't imagine your bliss in seeing Ms. Ronstadt in such a setting. Must've been a thrill for you. What tour was it? What is most seared in your memory about her performance? Is the documentary about Laurel Canyon?

I won't expect you to do reactions, but you may enjoy listening to this song's composer, Karla Bonoff. Her albums contain the soul of each song's composer. And the musicians are often the same. The late great Kenny Edwards on bass, piano, guitar... he was a staple of the Calif touring bands from the mid '70s on. Waddy Wachtel on guitar is still a welcome addition to any stage-performance I see. These folks went from session work to stage work with some of the best performers in the '80s and '90s.

We grew up listening to Linda Ronstadt. She was just great, and kept getting better with each new song. Her amazing story is captured in a recent movie, The Sound of My Voice. Do take a look at it, it is Rock and Roll history. Your reaction to discovering her is priceless, a feeling of finding hidden treasure versus accumulating the treasure. Also please credit the songwriter Karla Bonoff. Karla is still performing and has written other songs for Linda and herself.

Karla really wrote some beautiful, haunting songs. Her writing, melodies, etc are so deep. And linda did them well, as did Karla, of course.

Linda's "Long Long Time" is a must.

This is one of my favorite songs by Linda, from her 1976 album Hasten Down the Wind.

She's my hometown hero! You can thank her for the Eagles too. They were her band, The Stone Ponys. She covered Smokey's, Tears of a Clown.

Yes, it's hard to try and choose songs of her to recommend. Where do you stop?? And she made Pop BETTER ! It wasn't mediocre, like a lot of today's Pop - although I do like some. Just not he lyrics you were used to from Linda's time.

I was 17 in 1977. You can only imagine the effect this amazing combination of beauty and talent had on me and every other 17 boy in America. She did a ton of recording in the late 70's. Her career has covered the California Country era on into pop and even full on country when she did an album with Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton. After that she went back to her roots and begin recording Mexican folk music. Her dad was Mexican and I saw her on a recent documentary were she said they spoke English in her house but sang in Spanish. She's still alive but sadly has developed a medical condition that has affected her voice. And yes I like every other 17 year boy had a huge crush on her which I never really got over.

Linda was the queen in 1977. It’s amazing that she is left off of greatest female singers list. I mean for several years she was the top selling female artist and radio stations built playlists around her singles.

Hey, yeah! Linda, our hometown Tucson girl, made good! My brother (7 yrs. older than I) saw her perform in coffee houses down near the University of Arizona in the '60s. My wife was classmate of her niece, and her nephew is my bass luthier. Sadly, Parkinsons has forced Linda to retire "early."

Jamel, I am sometimes astonished at how astute you are. To recognize that the piano play was setting the table with complementary notes until he would actually segway into the piano notes that introduces the song on the record at the 2:53 mark was spot on.

The two purest voices of the 60’s-70’s was Linda and Karen Carpenter. And she is still alive but her voice is gone. Desperado is another incredible song of hers.

You have definitely heard this voice and it’s the sweetest, yet most powerful voice you will hear. Thank you so much for finally getting to her. She was the queen of rock/pop in the 70’s and well beyond that. Started with country rock and branched out in every direction imaginable from there. She will definitely reach right in and grab your heart. She did many great duets with Aaron Neville and others. Please do more and thank you again. I just came across a quote from Willie Nelson about Linda Ronstadt. He said “There are two types of men. Those who have a crush on her and those who don’t know who she is”. That just about sums it up. 😂

My personal favorite will always be “You’re No Good”. The rock vibe and her vocals are amazing!

The album is titled HASTEN DOWN THE WIND and this song closes the lp. If you think Someone to Lay Down Beside Me goes for your heart, guts and throat you have to hear her self written song from the same lp. TRY ME AGAIN has no video as Ronstadt swore she would never ever perform the song live. But there is on KZread lyrics posted as the song plays. IT WILL slay you! Again the lp is a killer and it was Ronstadt's 1st lp to win a Grammy and sell a million copies. She would go on to be the first woman to have 5 consecutive million selling lps. She was the HIGHEST paid woman in rock N roll during the seventies. She's done everything but sing the telephone book to great success: light opera, rock, pop,jazz standards, Spanish language lps, country, country rock, reggae, a Capella, Holiday lp, cajun, traditional music, folk, choral and even an lp of pop tunes done over as children's lullabies that earned her one of her 11 Grammys! Her catalog is deep, varied and literally waiting for you. Try to explore her catalog in order of release. Ronstadt's vocal prowess only got better as time went by. You're in for some jaw dropping treats of musical accomplishments and great diversity. I am indeed jealous of your impending journey. 😉

her approach to her performance was so serious, she went for perfect, and it showed. All the made it look easy !!

Saw her in concert 3 times....just her and her fine back up players....each known in their own right. She was delightful, beautiful, gracious and funny. Pitch perfect and captivating. This pretty girl with the beguiling eyes and mega voice would grab hold of your musical soul and poured out an unforgettable evening. I had all her albums. There is quite a large body of work. Duets , trios and ventures into different genres and cultures. A serious artist Miss Linda. Thanks Jamal. Always love your reactions. I know I can expect an honest and respectful take on an artist.

She is a treasure.

My teen years were filled with Linda Ronstadt music. Boy, do I feel old. She was phenomenal as were the musicians of that era. In this case I'm glad to be old.🙂🙂 it warms my heart and gives me hope for the future that young people like yourself can recognize and share the quality of this music.

Glorious! I'm always amazed that so few have heard this song. It's her best in my opinion. When my wife felt frisky she'd put this record on the stereo. Lord it brings back wonderful memories.

Followed Linda since forever. Although I love her more well known numbers it is usually the lesser known songs that really showcase her vocal abilities.

This song is my favorite of all she has done. Great song!

I still get goosebumps listening to her voice. She is my favorite female singer. Not many female singers back in late 70's. Male dominant bands. So blessed to have grown up in late 70's.

My sister had her album in the 70's and used to play it constantly. And I loved every minute of it.
