    The Ford Panther Platform from the late eighties is unbeatable, I drove these as Taxis as well as the 91 and up Caprices The Ford Products are superior but I will say the TBI Injected 305 Chevy was the most Durable Engine that ran 24 hours a day for 500,000 + miles in the Caprice with no problems and only stopped for oil changes with 2 drivers with 12 hour shifts seven days a week for at least ten years, Ah The Golden years of Cab Driving !

    The golden years of automobiles to! An old time mechanic here in NJ says the same thing, that the TBI injection chevy engines are some of the most reliable engines of all time. The 2000-2006 GM 5.3s are pretty good to, despite some lifter issues they have and oil consumption. After 2007 when they came out with the DOD BS that was the end of the reliability. But interior quality, reliability, and craftsmanship peaked in the 1980s and 90s for sure

    A very nice looking Town Car. Yesterday, I was reviewing your video and all the tips given, as my ''88 is having problem with the gas guage ( digital dash ). Someone had commented and inserted a piece on the fact that the analog , and the digital gas sending units are distinct from each other. They even had a diagram and while they looked similar, the numbers were different. I should have written the number down for the digital Sender, but didn't... and now I am unable to find that bit of communication.If anyone has the info I require to shop and acquire the correct Sender for my digital dash '88 Town Car, that would be so very appreciated. In the meanwhile I do frequent fills just to maintain a good level and not run out of gas not knowing what the correct level is... What a pain!

    Love the lincoln content bro. Just inherited an 89 from my grandparents, in that same color. Mine sat garaged (thankfully) for the last 15 years. Just got her back on the road. Had to do a complete new tank and fuel system too. Everything was corroded. New brakes/lines all around and she purrs again. Put a new head unit in because the factory one was just shot. New G3 alternator going in right now because my G2 was just about going anyways and now I have the extra power for a proper sound system. I've been a GM guy my whole life but with the memories of this one I'm having to learn what's basically a ford. Hate fords but absolutely love this car. You working on yours is giving me the extra visuals I needed to take mine apart. These cars are supposed to be bullet proof and drive well into the 200k miles. Keep the content coming, subscribed.

    I just bought a 89 Town Car and looking to change the fuel pump possibly the tank but I have not seen what it looks likes yet. It's been sitting in a garage since 2013. What pump did you use? This info helps alot because I thought the Fuel pump and sending unit were combined like in my Cadillac, but I see they are not. These are some sweet rides. What color is yours?

    I just bought an 87 but mine fires up but barely stays running, have to keep working the gas pedal but then it will idle on its own after a few minutes. No power though, will cut out if you just hold the throttle. Sometimes it will rev. I believe the gas in it is honestly just bad and it needs to burn through it. I have to also inspect the wiring to the level sensor because it does not read a fuel level

    Hi, when the gas tank is installed, does the bottom lip touch the trunk body? On my car, even though the straps are intact, the bottom of the fuel tank touches the pump. Also, did you use a new Herko fuel level sender?

  • @dennispeaks
    @dennispeaks2 жыл бұрын

    What fuel sending unit did you use, I just found the herko on ebay. Not too bad of a job, I bought three, a 88 Town Car and two 90 Town Car Signatures. It was a package deal, I paid more than I wanted but I got the one I wanted so I am selling the other two.

  • @ScotteLo

    To be honest I bought it from an old man who said he drove it and parked it and it never started again although would crank . So what I did was I poured gas down the intake like through a cup straight into the intake and it fired for a few seconds that told me that the vehicle was not getting any fuel. when I took the fuel pump out I seen the real problem, if you cause the video when you take a look at the old fuel pump the hot wire inside the tank actually frayed in half and it wasn't even reaching the pump when I seen that I immediately knew it was a fuel pump.

    Am I glad to of found this video, I have a 88 Country Squire that has been imported into the UK. Its on over 100,000 miles but its been stood for 7 years. My guess is the fuel tank and sender are also corroded to all hell just like yours were. Where did you located a new level indictor? I can't seem to find one on RockAuto.
