Limiting Reagent Made Easy: Stoichiometry Tutorial Part 5
This is a whiteboard animation tutorial that demonstrates how to identify the limiting reagent (aka limiting reactant) of a chemical reaction and how to calculate the theoretical yield and percent yield in a limiting reactant stoichiometry problem.

The limiting reagent (or limiting reactant) is the reactant in a reaction that limits the amount of product that can be made. In order to determine it, you need to calculate the amount of product that each reactant can produce. The reactant that can produce the least amount of product is the limiting reagent, and that least amount of product is the theoretical yield.
In order to determine the limiting reagent and the theoretical yield, you will need to perform multiple stoichiometry calculations (typically at least two grams to grams stoichiometry calculations).
This is the fifth and final tutorial in my stoichiometry series.
My goal is to make chemistry easier ;)

all 5 parts SAVED my life, i learned more in 40 min from these videos than i did in 2 weeks of class
This concept cannot be taught in any easier way than this.. Thank you so much..

My problem is I have a brilliant Dr. for the lecture portion, then his new TA for the lab portion. One teaches things one way, the other a different way and confuses everyone. I really like the guy, but he does not give you all of the information needed. The good Dr. breaks everything down like this guy. The problem with lab is we are a week or so ahead in lab!
cried for an hour over my chem score for this topic and was like "aite thats it, im gonna do this no matter what" and you're a lifesaver :)))))))))
whoa dude. you deserve more subscribers. very helpful and high quality videos. thanks!

Wow! The AH-HA! moment comes easy with your excellent tutorials! Great job! I have a new TA as my lab instructor and he started us with mid-level calculations while only showing one simple reaction and never even mentioned limiting reagent. Now that I have been fully taught everything, stoichiometry is not such a beast! Keep up the great work.
Excellent video! Thank you for explaining this potentially tricky chemistry concept with such clarity and simplicity. I shared your video with my students.
This is really amazing....now i have started loving this concept...
thank you so much for making all of these videos, just started college chemistry and i was so lost but now i at least get stochiometry!! subscribed
Seriously sir the way you explain mind-blowing seriously
Your series is excellent for the beginning chemistry student. Thanks for sharing it!

What if the mass of product or its volume is not given initially in the question?
your amazing thanks
you are the best thank you so much
In excess means to have more than needed or the reactants left over after the product is created, 00214
is how much you can make out of what is given, 00204
in excess is the amount of reactants left from after the reaction is over, 00206
ID:00404 The limiting reagent is the reactant that limits the amount of reactant being formed. As stated in the example, you must find out how much product each reactant can make and then pick the reactant with the lowest number. This is the limiting reagent because after that amount, no more product can be made.
but what if actual yeild and % yeild isnt given how will we find actual yeild? for example: ) Zinc and hydrochloric acid react according to the reaction: Zn(s) + 2HCl(aq) → ZnCl2(aq) + H2(g) If 0.30 mol Zn are added to hydrochloric acid containing 0.52 mol of HCl, how many moles of H2 is produced?
nice video sir ...thank u very much

Welcome!
A some fo integrated programs. Please make vidio about equivalent weight also
love you man
the limiting reagent is what is being taken out of the product. (what reactant that you would run out of first) 00224
Thank you so much
you're god sent.
In excess is what is left over of the reactants when a reaction takes place and a limiting reagent is formed. 00114
Theoretical yield is the reactant that can produce the least amount of product also called "limiting reagent". 00403
00803] Theoretical yield is based on limiting reagent because the limiting reagent is the reactant that can make the least amount of product, which leaves all else as excess.
your teaching skills iz lit thank you so much HAHAHAHA💜

In excess means the amount of reactants that is left after the reaction takes place, 00806
00123, the limiting reagent is what the theoretical yield is based off of because it's the minimum amount of smores that can be made as a result
Well I learned two things today. The origin of s’mores and limiting reagenr
The limiting reagent is the reactant that 'limits' the reaction to a set amount of products because it is entirely exhausted and more is required, of the reactant, to produce more product. 00205
The theoretical yield is based on the limiting reagent, because the limiting reagent is the reactant that will run out first leaving everything else as excess so this means when you run out of the limiting reagent then you have reached your theoretical yield.
Life saver. 😫
00414, Excess is the amount of reactant that's left after the theoretical yield
my chem teacher actually took 2 weeks on this and i understood it in less than 10 min. youtube needs to have a school
The reactant the theoretical yield is based on is Limiting Reagent. This is because the reagent is the reactant that can produce the least amount of product. 00223
"in excess" means to have more then needed, leftover and unused #008334
The limiting reagent is how much of the product that can be made, 00409.
the limiting reagent is how much of the product you can make. 00412
The reactant the theoretical yield is based on is limiting reagent because the reagent is the reactant that can produce the least amount of product, 00611
00716 the reaction with the lowest product is the limiting reagent.
limiting reagent is how much you can make out of a product, 00812
The excess is the amount of reactant left after the theoretical yield, 00606
The theoretical yield is based on the limiting reagent because that is what can make the least amount of product, the theoretical yield is always rhe smallest amount you can use, 00415
I can determine the limiting reagent by observing whatever has the LEAST amount of the product, as the marshmallows were in the example in the video, 00724.
"In excess" means there is simply too much of something to use all of it for what is being made into. 00814
Thanks
In excess means there is to much of a product then necessary to work 00802
Excess is the amount of reactant left over from a reaction that was not used 122095
the substance that is gone after the chemical reaction is complete, 00813
First, you calculate the amount of product each reactant could make. Then, the reactant that makes the smallest amount of product is the limiting reagent, 00824
In excess means having more than the necessary amount needed to create that product. 00818
excess is the greater amount needed for the reaction, 00418
Limiting Reagent is the reactant that limits the product in a reaction 00401
what is excess in my own words, and amount that is over what you need.
Limiting reagent is the reactant that produces the least amount of product. It is what makes up the least amount of product, leaving the other reactants in excess. 00405
In excess is what's left from the limited reactants. 00118
The limiting reagent is determined by finding the reactant that can make the least amount of product, 00416
The theoretical yield is based on the limiting reagent because it is always the smallest number you calculate, 00811
In excess means that the reactant amount is extra , 00110
More informative.
00815: The theoretical yield is based on the limiting reactant
The reactants that are not used at all after the reaction is done,984311
excess is the amount of the reactant not used 00422
I can determine the limiting reagent by finding the reactant that can make the least amount of product 00108
The Limiting is the reactant in a reaction that limits the amount of product that can be made. 50678
The theoretical yield is based on the limiting reagent because that is the most amount of product that can be made 00115
Theoretical yield is the amount of product made by the limiting reagent. It's the least amount, 00419
The Limiting reagent is the reactant that limits the amount of product you can make
A limiting reagent is a reactant that identifies how much of the product can be made, 00213
The theoretical yield is based on limiting reactant because it produces the least amount of product, 00715
Limiting reagent depends on rhetorical yield
The theoretical yield is based on the limiting reactant because it's the amount of product you can make. 00719
Base on the smallest amount calculated.
Limiting Reagent is pretty much how much you can make out of the product given. 00821
the other amounts needed for a reaction 00410
thank you so much...very helpful but a little to fast haha
The limiting reagent is the reaction that can make the least amount of product | 00805 |
honest question, i see people putting 5 digit numbers in their comments, why is that?
👍
A limit caused by a reactant to control the amount of product made, 00209
The limiting reactant is the reactant that limits the amount of product formed. 00420
The reactant with the less amount of output, 00816
