Limitations on Sovereignty

Sovereignty is one of the most important concepts in political science. Sovereignty is the most important characteristic of the state. There can be no state without sovereignty. Aristotle defined sovereignty as “Supreme power in the state”. In the same way, Jean Bodine defines sovereignty as “The supreme power over citizens and subjects unrestrained by law”. In terms of its attributes or characteristics, sovereignty has seven attributes. They are absoluteness, indivisibility, permanence, unity or exclusiveness, inalienability, imprescriptibly, all comprehensiveness or universality. Besides this, there are two aspects of sovereignty. One is called internal sovereignty and the other is called external sovereignty. Sometimes, the state used to be in crisis. This may be for different reasons. A rebel leader, a war leader, priest, prophet, or any other leader may overthrow the existing structure of government and compel the real obedience of the people. In this case, de facto and de jure terms are used. Besides this, there are different kinds of sovereignty. This includes legal sovereignty, political sovereignty, and popular sovereignty. The details of all these are given in the video.
