Lil Baby is one of the biggest and most recognizable stars in the game right now, and he’s hit a point in his career where other rappers are even starting to sound like him.
On Wednesday (July 6), an up-and-coming white rapper named Lil Man J went viral on social media thanks to his new song “Cap Freestyle,” which has racked up almost 500,000 plays on KZread since its release last week.

This just proves my theory that an artist who comes in sounding like a bigger artist, they’ll usually pop off quicker. When you’re innovative with your sound, it takes longer to pop, but you’ll be more appreciated in the long run. Up & coming artists, don’t try to mirror what this guy is doing, we’ll forget about him in about a year. Stick to you and yours, you’ll win..

“Stick to you and yours, you’ll win” 99.9% of people who take this approach won’t go anywhere, because most people aren’t that interesting. Most people’s style isn’t cool or unique enough to get them noticed. You could argue that it’s more efficient to just rip off whatever is popping at the moment, so that you might catch lightning at least once, or like this guy, get some controversy-fueled listens when Lil Baby gives you free press. I had never heard of this dude until 15 seconds ago. I never would’ve heard him at all if he didn’t rip off Lil Baby’s sound.

Well, that's the formula which has led to artists such as elvis, eminem and a number of others, so that suburban sales can go up. The real culture is then left hijacked and overshadowed by money that goes into promoting the bleached-out replica. New fans come along thinking everything is legitimate and that the replica is the original. Sort of like how someone once said future generations will grow up thinking "Mrs. Jackson" is a song by Mattie B instead of OutKast.

The crazy thing is people who would never buy a Lil Baby record would buy his if he gets the right marketing and promotion. I thought the country snippet was fire. He is talented. I think he is more or less paying homage to Lil Baby and he’s having fun with a unique sound. I think it’s harmless as long as he doesn’t try too hard to copycat LilBaby. And I think he should pursue the difference in his talent: he can rap a lil bit, he can sing a lil bit, etc… so just be himself, aka Jack Harlow!! I heard him before he popped off and I was a fan immediately. Already knew what it was! Anyways I believe that’s his best route to a lil paper and a touch of fame

Instead of shelfing lil dude, make him start cleaning shelf’s and doing more chores round the house and take away his microphone. Den lil dude gone be forced to ask you for some money for chores so he can buy another mic if he really about that music shit , to which at that point deny giving him any allowance and tell lil dude that he need to get a job. Once he get a job then charge him money to record at your studio , then after he records , carefully send each track and the stems to the recycle bin and permanently delete them boys so they never see the light of day . Not only do you get to eliminate competition but you get to clap his momma cheeks and that should play with his mind . Free game for yaw niccas
