Lightbar Highlight: Federal Signal Jetsonic

This is a quick video of my Federal Signal Jetsonic. This is an independent-motor lightbar, with front and rear flashers, and 4 rotators. I switched the lens covers for the flashers, to create an off-balance color scheme. Federal Signal made 3 major Jet models when it originally came out:
-Jetsonic (Sonic, because it has the speaker housing in the middle)
-Jetstream (Stream, because of the all-light streamlined nature of the bar)
-Jetstrobe (Strobe, because the bar was a strobe model rather than halogen)
Later, they came out with a JetSolaris, which was essentially the Jetstream model ,but filled with Solaris LED modules instead. I believe these bars were Federal Signal's first foray into streamlined/low-profile lightbars.
Fun Fact: This lightbar is the ONLY lightbar in my entire collection that has a working speaker in it. That speaker is driven by the Premium Vision controller that controls my halogen Vision lightbar.

When this popped into my recommendations, the video title cut off at "Federal", so I prayed that it would be the jetsonic. Lucky me!

Have one of the mini controllers for the old Jetsonics, clips onto the bottom of the PA500 mini control. Working on converting out a JetStrobe to LED. Many moons ago I built a Mini Jet magnet mount bar, its a Franken bar, the internal is a Whelen Strobe II power pack with the standard octal socket tubes behind a Fresnel lens in yellow. Still works great! Its fun using parts from different manufactures to come up with interesting light bars. My main source was the Dayton Hamvention as well as other Hamfests throughout the Midwest.

I also had a Smith and Wesson one I got from a Deputy friend of mine years ago. Tried fixing it, didn't work. Got it cleaned up lol. Great lightbars my friend!!

Cool! Do you ever use that speaker, or it it way too loud to use in the house? I personally don't really like the look of the big black protruding speaker box in the middle, but it's still awesome!

I do use it sometimes!! I actually stuffed about 2 lbs. of foam into that enclosure, to help muffle the sound to a bearable level. I tried it once without foam.......... dumb idea.

As far as I know, any typical switchbox will do.... nothing special needed.
Nice bar! It’s pretty slick, I’ve heard Jetstreams and Jetsonics came with a Smart Pods. Is that true?

That's true! There were versions that could stop the outer rotators from spinning, and turn them into rear-only flashers. There might have been other functions too, but that's the one I know of for sure. Pretty cool feature for its time!

Adam, does this one do the rear only rotating flash (Front cut off)? My Jetsonic does the rear only rotating flash.
