Light wind test - AXIS Pump and Glide 1150 - Wing Foil

Спорт

Took the PNG 1150 out in really light winds to see if I could get on foil. Winds were around 7-12 mph. I weighed 194 pounds that day. Was riding AXIS Pump and Glide 1150, short Red fuse, 425 Progressive tail, 82 cm mast, 65 L AXIS Froth, Cabrinha Mantis 6.2 V1.

    Hey wingman, great video. Exactly THIS is reality. Thanks. I like your kind of humour very much, especially when you laugh about 39 needed pumps. Bernhard

    Great Vid. Enjoy your explanations and humor. I have 1300 PNG with same rear and froth 110. Use 7.0 Mojo and 7.4 Vayu. With that set up you would have been going easy. Whenever you see a slight darkness on the water you can get going. It’s amazing how light winds you can get going. Key thing I find is the wing has to at least fly by itself. Some wings fly in nothing and keep their tips out of the water so you can pump up onto foil. Some wings just hang and don’t fly well in the light.

    Thanks! The key issue was my 8.0 popped. It’s an amazing wing. If you check out my insta there’s a couple new videos of riding it in NOTHING.

    Great vid. Super impressive on 65L board. I’m novice, same PNG1150, Axis Froth 110L, lake with light winds, 6.1m Ensis Spin. Very inspiring! To person wondering about Axis Froth, I love mine but don’t have much to compare to.

    Ensis spin is a good wing. With the Frith 110 if you’re any lighter than me you’ll be ripping in those winds. The Froth is a great board. I think we’ll see most boards shaped similarly soon!

    Great vid man, that was brave on a 65L board and very little wind. Surprised how tight your first jibe was with the 1150. Gives me a lot of hope bouncing around on my 145L light inflatable :) in 14 mph winds.

    I used to use my Slingshot inflatable 120L in light wind and it was great, but as long as there’s ANY wind I can usually make the 65L work, so I sold it to finance my endless summer. Anything that floats you on top of the water should work just as well as a bigger board in light wind. As long as the board can start on top of the water it becomes more about the foil. And whether the wing can even fly! If I was rich I’d probably have a 90L inflatable for light or really gusty days. The 1150 definitely turns wider than I am used to! But I always turn pretty tight because I like to get back to wind power! I should trust the foils more and ride them longer sometimes through turns. Good luck in those 14 mph winds. Plenty of wind!

    Nice vlog, better than those edited ones just to show all the highlights. Some of my summer days are like this, just too eager to get out there and get going. I am thinking about buying the HPS1050 I weigh basically the same as you and I use a 110ltr board, yup could go with less volume, but I prefer not to struggle so much. maybe later drop to a 100ltr.

    I would definitely recommend the HPS 1050 for light wind. It’s much more fun for winging and doesn’t require too much more wind. With the 8.0 F-One and 1050 I think I could have gotten up and had a good session. I got the PNG 1150 for ultralight winds because I’m going to do a trip soon with questionable winds. Plus dock starts! Thanks for checking it out.

    The harness helps cause I know I can hook in and rest the second I’m up! With the 8.0 F-One I think it would have been an okay day! But a bike ride would have been nice during that first period of really bad wind. Haha

    I am a low intermediate wing foiler (can jibe well, but cannot tack yet) who weighs 165 lbs (75 kg) . I wing foil in a area where a consistent 10 mph of wind is a blessing 🤣😂... I recently started winging with PNG 1150 with 500 cm2 rear wing. I tried many different 2000 cm2 front wing in the past few months and PNG 1150 is surely a pumping foil compared to previous 2000 cm2 foils I tried (e.g. Gaastra FR, RRD Dynamic, Carhinha X1950, Starboard S type). I am not 100% sure it was due to the superior pumping capability of PNG 1150 itself or (partially) due to the big rear wing (500 cm2), but I can tell you with confidence that it pumps better than the previous bigger foils I tried... I really want to try HPS 1050 and ART 1099, but then I have to be able to tack first!!!..🤔. Oh well... 🙄 By the wat, how do you like your new(?) Froth board compared to your previous Slingshot board?

    Good to hear your experiences. If I was 165 lbs I think 10 mph would be a lot more fun! Definitely try the HPS. I love the 880. ART I like more just for trying to go fast. The Froth is awesome. I had trouble getting the lift far enough forward on Slingshot 75L with high aspect foils and mast track all the way forward. Even though Froth seems to have mast track in the same place, the lift works much better. Maybe due to being shorter. Froth planes much easier too. And easier to stink bug because all the volume is under you. I absolutely love the Froth. And it looks great in photos! Get a board bag to protect from dings.

    I’ll see if I can put something together. But in the meantime, I absolutely love it, and everyone that’s tried mine loves it too. It gets going on foil so easily. And all of the volume is right where it needs to be-under your feet. I was surprised how much of an improvement it was over my Slingshot Wingcraft 75L, and that board was pretty good. Only potential negative is that because it is light, it has a bit fragile shell which I’ve had to repair after the wind picked it up and flung it into someone’s mast. Hence the duct tape. Waiting for some custom paint to touch it up. But it has held up very well to some big jumps (~10 feet) and many many crashes. I’m very hard on gear. With a board bag and a normal rider, I don’t see any issues. Strongly recommend.

    Great video! How easy is the PNG 1150 for a beginner wingfoiler?

  • @wingmanfoilclub

    @wingmanfoilclub

    2 жыл бұрын

    Pretty easy. I took it out again in more wind and it gets up pretty easily. Lots of glide and stable in one line. The wing span being so wide, it doesn’t turn as easily as a BSC, but once you figure out how to turn it, it’s not much of an issue. Do you want glide or easier turning? If you want glide and someday plan on learning dock starting, then go PNG. If you want something that gets up easy and wings well in light wind and turns easily maybe go BSC. You’ll be happy with either, and the bad news is… you’ll end up wanting multiple foils for different conditions!

    @@wingmanfoilclub thanks! I might end up getting both (as always 😂) but as I cannot turn at all and going in a straight line is my main goal, I go for the 1150 I think. Is it also an issue that it has to much lift with more wind? As I am only 63 kg..

  • @wingmanfoilclub

    @wingmanfoilclub

    @@wiepkjedegroot so the great thing about the AXIS foils is that they don’t really get overpowered. Once you get up on foil they ride locked in and don’t start lifting out of control if there’s too much wind or speed. It’s really remarkable. I rode the 1150 the other day in 20-25 mph and it was totally fine even in the gusts. 1150 is definitely gonna be a lot of foil for you at 63KG. You might even be able to just start with the 910b or something in between the 2 sizes. But at the same time, a big foil will always be nice for really light wind days.
