In Iraq for my second deployment as a Marine Infantryman I bought a wrist compass. It was just one of those cheap Sunto’s that clip on a watch band. We were handing out election flyers once in the city of Ar Rutbah in Western Iraq. An IED detonated. In that same area at a different time we’re we’re doing a raid at night. Both times I used my wrist compass. When things go very bad/to hell and you get turned around and you start taking fire from a street. It’s amazing to not have to get out a full sized compass or GPS and just look at your wrist so you can scream out “contact East side of the road second story… SAW gunner engage…. and accurately report it up to higher on the radio.” The other time we were dismounted from our LAV’s on a target building in a city. We studied maps and satellite images but when we actually got there and got dismounted… we were on the wrong intersection on the other side of where we had planned to be… which my wrist compass helped me sort it out in the 5 seconds allocated in that chaotic dark nightmare hell I had to sort it out. It’s not really for navigating per se but it’s amazing to have the cardinal directions… easily and quickly… to hand or wrist. Especially in a city.

For those of us who are Blind as a Bat, an extra pair of Prescription Glasses is worth the weight and space, even if you use Contacts. And if you can tolerate them, I’d add Caffeine Pills. It’s a lot quicker to swallow a pill than to stop and brew a cup of coffee to keep going. Also, I’d toss in a Boo-boo Ouch Kit with Pain Pills and Moleskin for Blisters. You’ll probably be walking a lot more than you’re used to. Hope this helps.

When I lived in Los Angeles, I worked at a hospital in a really bad neighborhood. I survived the 1992 Los Angeles riots. One of the best investments I made in urban survival, was taking On Point Tactical’s “urban escape and evasion course.” Took it twice. I built “get home bags” very similar to yours. I also scouted different routes home. My situation was being the wrong skin color in the bad parts of the city during urban unrest. I was 20 miles deep in potentially deadly gang infested areas. I learned that cool jacket sleeve technique from you just now. I’ll start using that.😊 In the city, I found a useful app to have on my cell phone was sigalert. The app would show me where there were road blockages and even areas of protests. The best thing is to know when to leave and what areas to avoid. You’re a great instructor and I learn something new from you every time I watch. Thank you.

As always, a very informative video. As a retired Tac Medic, I fell it is important for people to keep their blowout kit items "primed". Keep them unwrapped or partially open so that they are easier to use under stress and with bloody hands. If you run some sprints and put soapy water on your hands (simulates slippery blood) you will see how difficult Cat Ts and Israeli dressings are to open under stress. Stay prepared, stay alive!

Agreed. I was going to say the same thing. I use red tape to tab the tear spots on stuff like compressed gauze or Israeli dressing wrappers but any TQ that is staged for any potential serious use needs to be unwrapped, set up for rapid application and stored in some form of TQ holder to protect it and keep it from getting tangled but maintain quick access.

*Another way to roll a jacket like that one* is to fold in both sleeves, roll the jacket up from the bottom then tuck the rolled up part into the hood and pull the drawstrings. It makes a neat package and is easier than stuffing it all into a sleeve.

A collapsing / folding hiking pole can be really useful also if you got to walk a lot , especially with a backpack on , and it can be used for different situations as well .

Those millennium bars are Good to Go. It’s basically the same formulation as the lifeboat rations but it’s packaged in a much more versatile size. For when you don’t need 3600 calories worth of the material/“food”/emergency lifesaving dry crumbly cinnamon survival ration the size of a half brick . Also I just had a pre-made kit inspected and the 3600 block I had in that bag had went bad. The packaging was punctured by something (since when it was last inspected) and allowed water to get in. Consequently the whole ration was compromised (I’m still going to mix it with my morning cereal and eat it little by little but I had to replace it with new stock in the bag). However when each bar has its own very rugged tough Mylar laminate foil package… one puncture at most ruins a single bar. Or you can just carry one and fit in a pocket easier. If the formulation is good enough for the Coast Guard and military to put in emergency rations… it’s good enough for a civilian emergency kit. 👍🏻

I would include a bug net for people in warmer climates. Also, if things were chaotic, anybody with any kind of backpack, not just people in BDU's or hiker's clothing, might be targeted by those who are unprepared. We might have to disguise our bag or pack. We have to remember that those people who chose never to prepare for anything will not have enough sense to simply ask for help or guidance. They think the solution is to mooch or steal from others, but if they have no idea what to do, how to do it or how to make use of other people's kits and gear then they are just spinning their wheels, but of course we don't want to lose our gear. They might just grab anyone carrying anything. What I would say is to dress and gear up as you wish and if or when the time comes that you need to wear outdoor or military clothing then do so. By that time, everyone will know the SHTF and that they'll all be in survival mode, buying up supplies, evacuating or bugging out, trying to get home or to find someone. No costumes will be necessary anymore. Another tactic is to create a cheap survival kit to give to people with some printed directions on how to stay warm, purify water or how to get out of the area. That might ease tensions and is an easy way to send moochers on their way.... and you'd be helping them.

that jacket folding was damn awesome, havent seen that technique yet. nice tips too, would be nice to have some "less than lethal" weapons in there, for those of us who live in countries that doesnt allow personal firearms protection for civvies...

Consistently one of my favorite channels. I like the concise impartation of knowledge and lack of focus on staying up with the latest gucci crap schilled by other channels.

After actively prepping for 30 years, and testing my preps, I've come to the conclusion that unless you're using your bug out bag to get you to a predetermined safe house, it's a fool's endeavor. Watch the reality series "alone". Then add 10,000 other people going after the same resources. I live alone, off-grid, in the Alaskan bush full time. I'm prepped for two years+. If I had to live in the city, I'd have a very basic day pack that's no more than 20 lbs. I'd have food caches hidden on the route to my cabin, so I can move quickly. If I'm mugged along the way, I just need to make it to my next cache. A 22 is my weapon of choice. It's lightweight, quiet if you're using subsonic rounds, and you can carry 500 rounds very easily. I'd be the gray man, with a trench coat with fresh dog crap smeared on it. If I'm confronted, I'd beg for food. People don't realize that once ROL is lost, everyone becomes a predator, and you are the prey. Carrying a big pack makes you a target. Carrying a badass assault rifle won't scare anyone. You won't even hear the shot that takes you out because someone wants that rifle. Don't plan to hunt for your meals. That gun shot will be like ringing the dinner bell to 10,000 starving people. That's if you can even find anything to shoot at. It's time people look at prepping within reality. You're not alone and as badass as you think you are, out there you're nothing but a mouse. So be fast, quiet, and stealthy as a mouse. Have a hidden place that is difficult to get to that holds your food, clothes, wall tent, and any other supplies you need to survive a year. After a year, most people will be dead, and you can slowly go back into society to look for resources. NOTE: your most valuable prepping tool is "GOD".

I enjoy seeing the key set up because for sure, no matter where, we’re going to have our keys (METTC in mind). The only suggestion that I would add to it would be the Leatherman PS4 Squirt (I actually purchased a few after a couple of your videos and have GREATLY enjoyed it) to add. I have many keys and the same items attached to my keys with my leatherman and it carries great! A case could also be made for the micro (I believe that’s the name) leatherman.
