I know ı am going to be that nerd saying "uhmm,actually",but thats wrong. Every ver of the story is have diffrences from the source materiall. And the part where Light thinks there is no afterlife is removed from the anime(so it can increase the weight in his decision,because now the side affects are more extreme). The only actuall rule in the book that make us think this statement is "All humans will, without exception, eventually die. After they die, the place they go is MU." The creator of Death Note was heavily influenced by Buddhism, MU means 'nothingness'. the implication is that life just ends, and there is no afterlife. That said, the author clarified that all he was really talking about was that no humans can come back to life. I think it's up in the air. Even in the Death Note rules it states that the Shinigami don't know exactly everything about the death notes and as far as I can tell they're not omnipotent or omniscient either so there could be gaps in their knowledge on subjects such as the afterlife, hell Ryuk had many assumptions about Earth and humans before meeting Light and was often surprised by new things so that shows that the shinigami while certainly more aware of how things really work in the death note universe are no more intelligent than humans are albeit maybe with some extra wisdom or foresight into things. This is just strictly my opinion though but I hope maybe this cleared things up.

If I were Gevanni, I'd have shot Near and sided with Raito

I'm torn, on the one hand if Near wins then Light will be exposed as a Grade A Poopyhead. But if Light wins, then Near gets to be with Silly Melo in Heaven.

Referencing the original Death Note one shot with the death eraser was pretty great, haven't thought about that oneshot in almost two decades

Near just being able to see Ryuk and greeting him like they've met before was a nice little detail at the start

It bothers me so much that it was _known_ that Light had ownership of the Japanese team's Death Note due to his father dying while he was holding it, and yet nobody thought, "Oh, Mikami thought that Light was Kira because of what Light's father said about seeing the lifespan of those that own a Death Note. And he also saw that Light did not own a Death Note when he died, which meant that, as far as anyone knew, he couldn't possibly be Kira." The fact that _Light himself_ didn't bring that up. The fact that Light didn't have Mikami watching the only entrance through binoculars because hey, what if Near decided to catch him right then? Light got nerfed _hard_ in part 2 because he was just too strong to be defeated. It's like if Frieza was brought back to life on Earth after being defeated on Namek and was suddenly weaker than Krillin. And that's not even counting the ridiculous leaps in logic that Near had to entertain--with absolute certainty. And the fact that Mello was kind enough to leave him with the exact team that he needed to beat Kira.

The entire ending scene is so rushed.why would Mikami not test the notebook before arriving in the warehouse?why didn't Mikami keep a few ripped pages for himself while he clearly sent ripped pages to Takada?he could have hidden those pages in normal notebooks and no one would know.why did Light only have this plan and not a single back up plan? If Light just showed up and let Mikami at home to stay there was nothing Near could have proved against Light. The only reason that even makes sense is for Near to have written Mikami's name on the Deathnote since the possibilites that Near could lose were far higher than winning.I know the bad guy must lose but this ending bothers me to this day still. It was not Near who beat Light,it was the Writter.

@@gamestriker4538 It's actually suggested in the Manga that Near wrote Mikami's name with the line that he didn't check the Death Note before coming over. Given everything else that's pretty much got to be what happened. I can't remember for sure, but didn't the anime cut that scene?

@@professorhaystacks6606 , since the modern perfect 3D printers didn't exist in 2006 or 07 then that wouldn't have been a way to make an exact copy of a fake Death Note in that time meaning the whole ending of the anime/manga wouldn't be possible in that series hence why I moved on from Death Note to One Piece.

Thats a very curious question... How poorly can you write in a death note for it to work? I imagine an eraser isn't going to work as it have to be in pencil and also done extremely delicately... I mean how well can you erase a name in 40 seconds? However would the obvious tipex problems regard the same as scribbling over the name? Would the note take effect with a name that was crossed out? Would it simply restart their heart regardless the conditions they were left in? To be frank the world was pretty Lucky he only experimented with the limits to which he could kill and note the limits of the notebook itself.
