    Not in Northern Ireland unfortunately, as you can imagine the people in power here couldn’t be trusted to run a bath never mind the country. So lough neagh is heavily bettered, no legally and illegally. The bream are gone, so are the pike, there’s a fraction of the amount of eels that there once were and it’s done to commercial netting/fishing.....sad

    @@stefanduncan5312 I can't believe that the pollan fishery is sustainable. 95% of them are exported and the populations in three of the five loughs that hold them (in the whole world!) are in serious decline. As with the English burbot, if only pollan and eels were furry and cuddly, the masses might give enough of a shit to care and protest. Contrast that with the efforts being made in Denmark to save another whitefish, the migratory houting. Only 7,000 left in one river in Jutland, so they have reshaped the river and removed weirs and other migration obstacles to help save them. In a few years time, there may well be more houting left in the world than pollan, until we reach a point where the pollan fishery and the species, is consigned to history.
