I have the exact same Moto Guzzi V7 850 Special from new in 2023. There's something special about these bikes !

I have had a love affair with Moto Guzzi for some 40+ years - I took delivery of a V7 stone (in yellow) this week. My first bike ever without any chrome!. Absolutely love this machine and she sits lovely next to my royal enfield bullet 500 classic. You ride Guzzies with your soul. Their sum of their parts are greater than many riders experience. Classic Italian beauty ! Love your honesty by they way!

I agree, I traded in a 2019 ZZR1400 for exactly the same bike 3 months ago. Once you get over the perception of needing lots of horse power and blasting from A to B. This is by far a much more enjoyable bike which encourages stress free riding. (I know it sounds weird but it's true)

when i was 16 i learned to ride on a CBR600. my first bike was a gsxr750 and then an r1. i sold my bikes when my baby was born because well i figured i need to make sure I am around for as long as possible lol. I don't even want to go fast anymore. I just want something comfortable that i could tour around on all day. _it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than it is to ride a fast bike slow.._ around town i always felt like the bike just wants to go already. i mean it's not fun riding slow on a sport bike it feels painful even... it's just wayyy too easy to get into trouble on the sport bikes honestly i've no idea how i survived all those years. I had a habit of using the entire speedometer lol ps: this is my next bike, deff getting one this year. I want the 100th anniversary paint scheme but with the analog gauges

It had been 30 years since I last rode a bike and that was a CBR1000F, now the kids have grown and flown I wanted to get a new bike. I looked at Honda and nothing piqued my interest, all the Japanese bikes look very similar had a good look at triumph coz I wanted a bike that looks like a bike, then I saw the Guzzi. I had always liked this brand since I fell in love with the Le Mans, as soon as I saw the V7 special I ordered one, no test not seen only pictures yet I ordered one, I’ve had her just over a year now and I am exceptionally happy with her. It’s a very comfy fun bike to ride, like you say not a rocket ship but pulls like a train and happily burbles along. Some have said certain things annoy, such as the halogen headlight while all other lights are led the side stand is hard to find yet with use it is easy to find the gearbox is clunky and the gear indicator is slow, my past bikes didn’t have this sort of tech yet we still managed to ride and have fun. In short I am totally sold on this bike and I’m glad I got one.

Yep, I just got a 22 V7 Special; smaller and lighter than my old bikes. I'm just turning 70 and don't have the "need for speed" any more but still love the twisty mountain roads here in Mendocino County

Guzzis just tickle the soul in all the right spots.

I had a 2017 V7 III Special. She was a beauty.

I share your thoughts. I fell in love with Guzzi back in 86 (i was 26) with my 650 California, sky blue. Today I have an 1100 California 98, sky blue also . And now just bought that 850 spécial, dark blue . I had over 25 motorcycles, one cylinder, 2,3,4 &6... And now at 62 i understood that Guzzi is "my brand" .. the one that puts the largest silly grin on my face. The one that makes me feel 26 again (funny, just the reverse of 62 ☺️ ). This V7 special is just.. super fun to ride. I only wish it had the extra 15 ho of the V85... And a sound a bit more ..present.. i think I will add the mistral exhausts soon...

@@davidberman5121 Thanks, I traded my 2022 Ducati Multistrada V2S in for it. I realized that 90% of my riding is done in city traffic and the big Ducati is not fun in that traffic or the Texas Summer heat (100F/38C +) with the rear cylinder up your rear end.

I just test rode a V7 special yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by how good of a ride it is. Ample power, neutral handling, amazing ergonomics. The only area I felt it was lacking in was brakes, but coming off a 10 year stint with Ducati’s, I’m probably jaded. It’ll seem like an eternity waiting, but I’m absolutely adding a V7 to the garage in the spring!

They are great bikes. I've currently got a 2022 V7 850 stone in yellow and it's one of my favourite bikes owned so far. I also have a V7ii and Breva 750 and I feel the 850 is the pinnacle so far.

I've owned Fireblade. Great bike. But too much for any public road. I traded it for Fazer 8. Great bike. But too much for most public road. I traded it for V7 Centenario this year. New one. Yes, really. Perfection. Already done 5000 kms and I love every meter we are together.

@@davidberman5121 Totally. The bike is relaxing and friendly. And yet it can run pretty vigorously when pushed. In reality mostly you are well within boundaries of legal speeds. And certainly sane speeds. Which could not be exactly said about Fireblade where 240 km/h on a non-highway road wasn't a rare sight. Which is not what one should do it was just so easy and seamless. I'm so much more satisfied on my V7...

Very nice and sweet video. I just bought a V7 special which will be my first bike ever since I just got my licence (at 60 ! 🙂). I really hope to have as much fun as you have with yours. The V7 850 looks (to me) like a "proper" bike should looks and it has a an old style air cooled engine which could be one of the last ! Go Guzzi 😀

I could not agree more. I have done nearly 9,000 miles on my grey v7 850 special, on the A and B roads of North and West Yorkshire. Like you, I have had many different bikes in the past but the Guzzi has something rare about it. It is very comfortable, practical (shaft drive, 250 mile tank range, a sensible seat height and is easy to push around manually), has more than enough power and grunt for real world conditions, handles twisty roads really well and, above all else, never fails to bring a smile to my face. It has a character that is much more than the sum of its parts. I have fitted heated grips, a fly screen and a front mudguard extension, and these were a big help in the winter. Panniers and a rear rack (from Hepco and Becker) make it perfect for touring. It does all I need and more, in style, and I love it to bits.

Same bike, same coloured Shoei J.O.and also the heat grip switch on the same place... I love driving the V7 after all my big bikes, it´s a little bit back to the roots. Regards from northern Germany.

I have been riding since the late 60's . I came to Wales for my pottery apprenticeships and had a 650 Bonneville in Pembrookshire and Glamorganshire . Wonderful riding though the coldest I have ever been and I am a skier .. Back in New England I got an R 80 BMW and never looked back. I have missed that particular bike for decades and I am thinking the V7 is about as close as I am going to find for that bike today . You did some beautiful film work and editing on this clip .Great job with an optimistic message ... Good on ya :) All the best from New England ..

Hi David nice review. Traded my street triple RS on Sat (Wednesday today) and picked up my new V7 same colour as yours but I had heated grips fitted as I ride year round. Agree about the gelling after a lengthy ride, I put on 150 miles on Sunday and another 20 this afternoon after work and the bike feels alive with the throbbing v twin but the bars are noticeably less vibey than the trumpet. Can’t Rev above 4500 as running in but it makes a lovely intake roar about 4000 so looking forward to being able to take it to the upper Rev range after the service at 600. Ride safe 👍🏻

No doubt you have run yours in by now. I got my stone about the same time and have found around 4000rpm is where she starts to like to cruise and a bit above is where the fun starts

I've owned bikes since 1969; always had at least one. When just married, my wife and I bought a new '75 850-T for me and a horse for her. That Interceptor was always my favorite but sold it and the horse to buy a house. I just bought a "22 V7 Special (Grey) to replace my big heavy BMWs. Jury's still out if it will be my new favorite.

I've been eyeing up these beauties (particularly that Special in blue) since they were introduced last year, but don't tell my three-year-old RE Interceptor, as I love it too. Enfield & Guzzi are two of the few marques nowadays that can claim continuity, compared with other defunct marques whose trade marks were purchased in order to take advantage of the (usually rose-tinted) nostalgic reputations of the original incarnations.

I have a V7 Special and previously owned a MK1 V7 Classic and definitely feel the V7 series has evolved into a beautiful machine. My only disappointment was the strangled sound but have Mistrals with db killers in now and it sounds amazing without being obnoxious. I also have a Griso but the V7 is the perfect every day sort of bike.

@@davidberman5121 Ergonomically, The V85 is a much better proposition especially if you are tall. It just doesn't have the retro charm. I'm 6'2" and I just fit on V7 850, older V7's are too small.

I pick mine up in a few days, I lucked out w a blue one with $2K worth of extras like Hepco Becker hard bags, luggage rack, back rest, windshield and more. Buying a used one w 800 miles and have never tested one. Selling my beloved ‘07 Norge to get it.

You are a brave man. Buying a bike without a test ride! But, I’ve done the same with my old V7 and my old RT1200! It sounds like an amazing deal. 800 miles is basically brand new. Has it had its 1st service? That is at 900 miles

Yes it had the service at 600 miles but no valve adjustment so I’m having it done at 1300 including fresh oil. Also adding dual fiamm horns, stock was weak.

I just picked up a V7 Stone on Friday, 3 hour ride home in 90 degrees f from dealer. I think I like it more than my previous bike (Triumph T120). Still getting used to the gearbox though, seems to take a lot of effort. Need a fly screen.

ah. Good for you. Although 90 sounds a bit warm! The gearbox certainly has some agricultural aspects, my RT1200 was quite similar, it does have ‘character’ or maybe I just got used to it over the miles. I felt It needed to be run in and I guess that is part of the ‘bonding’ process! Haha. The dart screens are pretty good as is keeping away from the highway.

@@davidberman5121 Yes, I was south near Atlanta GA, urban and hot, the ride was much more enjoyable when I reached the mountains and a bit cooler temperatures of Western N. Carolina.

Thank you. the ECU update I have had to date is during routine service so free. There are good words said about 'upmap' from an Italian company which I am saving up for and is rumored to sort out the occasional flat spot at 1500-2000 revs. I dont find it does it if I am on the gas or in the right gear before asking for a big pull of grrrrrrrrrrrr

no. I have been thinking about it but after a 260mile weekend she went well. I think it was because I was riding 'properly' using the revs and not having lazy changes.

Great content and well presented. I'm currently riding a 2010 Honda NT700V (Deuville) which has been a trusted ride, but I'm thinking of moving on. The Moto Guzzi V7 Special looks unique, maintains the shaft drive, but sheds 50+ pounds, the radiator & water pump compared to my Honda. You've managed to push me closer to taking a test ride on the V7. Please tell me about your side bags as I do long distance touring.

Thank you Sir. I had a 2010 Deauville which was my first ‘big’ bike back in a while. The Guzzi has so much charm and character in comparison but you may miss the screen and fairing! I think there is a link to the bags in the description. If not, they are Hepco and Becker with some added lowepro lens pouches.

Hello Christian. The headlight is a regular bulb. Maybe a Osram nightbreaker or similar. it might be that it is slightly angled up or, the perspective of the camera is making it look brighter. it was, most times, a little lower than a standing or sat in a car. the spotlights are a good addition and the link for them is in the description. Your V7 850 special is charming. May I ask you something in detail? How did you maintain your head pipes shiny? Head pipes will become dark color if they meet high temperature. Any method to keep head pipes clean and shiny?

I use the Mothers chrome and Alu polish: bit.ly/3BarBI0 but if there are deposits I will use some 0000 grade wire wool ( at your own risk) but that has done wonders for even very old and marked headers on my BMW

David - if you don't mind stating but what pannier bags/supports rail and spot lights have you fitted? Also i have fitted a Dart Marlin screen to mine. It really makes for a tasty front end to the bike.

You mention an ECU upgrade, done when the bike was serviced. What was that about? I'm looking at a V7 next week - same as yours - I'd be interested to know if there are any issues to be aware of. It has to be the best looking 'retro' on the market, with proper authenticity as well.

thanks fella. It wasn't a remap it is the latest firmware from MotoGuzzi. I took the bike in to have the lights and bars fitted and they did a minor service while there which included the update. I had heard that this would sort out the 'flat spot' lag that was really a nightmare between 2500-3500 rpm on load and it really seems to have sorted it out for me.

Hello. It is a ‘Dart classic’ (the medium size) and the bags are Hepco and Becker on the c-bow range. Happy riding.

haha. I try to only ride what it is nice out. Ive done my time in the rain and snow. i now have heated grips and a jacket and it just makes life that bit more comfortable meaning i get out more. I have the luxury that the bike is just for fun.

Beautiful bike, how is the gear box on this model? I hear finding Neutral can be difficult sometimes?

Hi. Thank you. It is a beauty to be sure. The gearbox is not a Japanese slick, buttery thing. You know when you change gears for sure. I had a BMW RT1200 and it was similar with clonks and general noise. Getting neutral for me is not often a problem. I have had to fiddle with the clutch adjustment a while back when it became difficult. An easy non mechanic job. Maybe I have adjusted my riding and might select neutral before i stop rolling or if at lights my stay in gear. You could call it a characteristic of the bike i guess.

Lovely video, thank you. Could I just ask; I have the same bike and have so far covered around 2500m. Many things about it I like, but the gearchange is not one of them, specifically the downchange from 3rd to 2nd. It is stiff to the point that it will often refuse to change from 3rd into 2nd and will require 2 or 3 attempts which can be a bit bum clenching when lining up for a junction or the like! When it does go it is loud and feels like someone's taken a swing at the crankcases with a lump hammer. When cold it's fine , then gets worse as it warms up. I'm convinced this is more than just 'Guzzi character' and is a fault, so I'm gathering experiences of other owners before I confront the dealer, as I'm sure they will fob me off with 'they all do that sir'. Most people comment that the gearbox is somewhat agricultural, and I accept that, but I've not heard anyone mention this particular problem, I just wonder whether you've found anything similar. Many thanks.

Hello. Thank you for your kind words. I haven’t noticed any real difficulties with the gearbox. Yes it clunks. My main miles before we’re on my R1200 RT. The big boxer twin also was clonky and rattled so I didn’t immediately notice much difference to be honest. Many owners (join V7 owners on Facebook btw) suggest the engines on the 750s really take some miles to bed in, some say 10k! Haha. Maybe the clutch needs some adjustment. That can be done at the lever or by the foot. Good luck

Hi, just had mine 4 days from new and done 170 miles. Yes the box isn’t snickety snick like my Triumph was but equally no problems selecting any gears up or down and even neutral is a doddle. Good luck getting it sorted as it’s such a lovely bike to have to suffer an issue. 🤞🏻

Apparently changing the gearbox oil can really help too after running in

great video and bike. I made a test drive on this, and it was hard to go from 2nd gear to neutral. Do you have that problem also? Thanks

Hi. I have not had a problem. Although, I was out and about last week with the boys and it happened! The clutch was basically right into the handlebar to bite. I adjusted the cable at the gearbox (really easy with a couple of spanner’s or a leatherman on the road) and it is ✅ there is also smaller adjustment under the rubber cover next to the lever itself.

You mean ecu tuning? Only two options, use guzzis lates maps, apparently disconnecting the battery will force the ecu to somewhat recalibrate amid it may help, or you grab upmap by termignoni. I ended up with upmap and it leaves the e5 constrained oem maps for dead. Zero fueling hesitations .

hi. sorry I missed your comment. I also think the UpMap might be an option. with the mistrals with db in she runs ok but still had some issues with fuel. I believe it is an E5 thing rather than an exhaust thing.

Hi, I see you have the original mufflers back on i also have gone back to the original mufflers the bike just never ran well with the mistrals even after ecu tune (upmap) with ecu tune and original mufflers it's beautiful crisp and smooth at all rpms. My age is showing I actually prefer this bike with the quiter mufflers i think it suits the bike better.

Hello. No, these are the Mistral pipes still. I absolutely love the sound with them. Db killers in for this part of the world. They rumble so well. I find that after the recent ecu update it is 90% better but still could do with a proper rolling road set up.

@@davidberman5121 Hello David, can you tell more about the difference after the 2nd service and ecu updated ? about torque and rev engine , Thanks. I ride a 690 duke : light and torquey, suspension nice on bumpy roads... The V7 850 must be a wonderful bike for cool riding...

@@mono6906 the bike is just right now although i think it may benefit from a rolling road tune. Like I say, she ain't no rocket ship but then again, I'm no spaceman so it suits me fine.

Links to most of the kit is in the description. They are Hepco and Becker c bow x travel and are very good. I am just back from 4 days away and they performed very well. In a real downpour of rain there was a very small amount of moisture inside. It may be that it got in as I opened it or that something was wet going in. bit.ly/3BcQwut

Hello. The very fine folks at Brtighton Moto fitted them for me. I sourced them from BikeViz in the U.K. and you can choose to have them on a switch or, as I have them, constantly on with the dipped beam. I had the same type of unit on a previous bike for about 4 years with no problems.

@@davidberman5121 Cheers David would be interested if they spliced it in some way? I have the phone charger directly to the battery via SAE cable that way cable is already there for the winter should i need a battery tender. And the heated grips plugged into the plug under the seat for the usb connector, works perfect as they turn off when bike is off. Next project lights :)

I’m sorry. I really don’t know. I guess it needs relay and switched power. They may have gone into the horn wiring. But I don’t want to give bad advice. A battery tender is a must for me as I sometimes leave her for a few weeks or more over winter.

Hi. It is the hepco and Becker c bow system. I can’t recall the style of bag but they are pretty good. Expensive though😮

@@M70fan I’m not entirely sure. It was a gift many years ago. It is a very small pen, non screw cap. The nib is beautiful and is well worn in by now.

me too. Had a '13 Guzzi V7. Sold it for a 2017 Bonneville, then bought a 2018 Triumph Tiger, which I love, but I want another Guzzi. V85TT is too tall for me, so I'm considering a V7 Special. Have since sold the Bonneville and picked up a used Honda CB1100.

Look, you seem like a nice guy, which is why I've picked on you to explain this. It appears to me that just about every English-speaking reviewer insists on getting this wrong. If you can't even get the name right, nobody, that is, who actually knows how to pronounce the name properly, is going to take your assessment of the bike seriously. So, It's pronounced "GOOTZI", not "Guzi" or "Goosi" or anything else that makes you sound stupid. It's really not that hard. So please, get it right and sound like you know what you're talking about......

hey bud. I apologise my pronunciation isn’t too your liking.

A cautionary note :- Guzzis get under your skin and there's no known cure. Upto 2 years ago I had 6. Reality took over and I gave my son the 3 larger ones. I still have the 3 smaller models and won't part with them. However that machine you've got there is nagging at me big time " I'm waiting for you matey come and get me".
