Great show and he and Cameron Mitchell were my favorites. RIP.

Growing up he was always one of my favorite western actors. When remembering him, his smile always comes to mind right away. I enjoyed his acting but always thought that he had to be a nice guy in real life.

An incredibly talented and captivating actor; a natural. He had a uniquely entertaining acting style, often portrayed with a magnificent sense of humor, that transcended the cookie cutter format. I for one am most grateful for the body of work that he has left behind for the rest of us to enjoy - especially, some of his most memorable performances in The High Chaparral. RIP

In the summer of 1979, when I was 12 years old, my family went to Florida (from around NYC) to visit with my grandparents a couple of weeks. Several nights I stayed home just my grandfather and me. He would watch High Chaparral (which I had never heard of before). I always loved reading about the history of the American West and the Indian Wars. From the few episodes I got to watch the show left an indelible impression on my much younger self. I have never forgotten about it after all these years. When I came back home from that trip I looked in vain through the TV Guide to find out when it was on TV. But all I could find was Bonanza. It has been that way my entire life. If the show ever aired in my neck of the woods, I wasn't aware of it. Not too long ago the entire series of High Chaparral was finally released on DVD. I purchased the DVDs of course and have been watching 2 each week. Manolito is my favorite character. Darrow had so much charm and charisma playing him. Sometimes the actor just fits the role perfectly, such as James Garner playing Jim Rockford. It's magic when that happens. Anyhow, I'm more than half way through watching The High Chaparral series. Despite some historical errors, I absolutely love this show. For me, it tops Bonanza. Both shows had great characters but High Chaparral would be my desert island choice. Yesterday I saw the news on the Internet that Henry Darrow had died at the age of 87. It felt like I lost a friend. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the series and enjoying Darrow's excellent portrayal of Manolito Montoya. Linda Cristal, who played his sister on the show, passed away June 2020 at the age of 89. But they live on through their work which will be around for many generations to enjoy. Henry, you were awesome as Manolito and left a permanent & positive impression on me. Thank you.

Well, must admit my first loves were Illya (David McCallum) and Spock (Leonard Nimoy), but Manolito was so different than those teenage heartthrobs. Just as the High Chaparral was noted for greater television realism, Manolito was a far more complex character than we were used to. And, so incredibly beautiful--that smile!

He always seemed to be a grand gentleman.I enjoyed seeing him on television.

One of my favorite actors, and he is sorely missed

Why must we all grow old? Why couldn’t Manolito stick around a lot longer and then just ride into the sunset? Rest in peace Henry Darrow, you helped to make my childhood and now I’m working through every episode of the High Chaparral with adult eyes. I don’t know what heaven looks like but if I could choose, I’d be riding through those gates with you and Buck.

He was such a fantastic actor. He lit up the room when he entered. I learned a lot about him from this video, thank you for posting. I had no idea he loved chess, also.

Just read his book. Engrossing. A great life story. A truly remarkable actor. Sad to think that he died not that long after this interview. He should have become a much, much, much bigger star... but he was happy just to work. RIP Hank.

Henry always had this little tune he would whistle or sing kinda. La, da, dee, La Da da da! I will never forget that smile, humor or smart come-back. He will be missed as I watch his talents every morning on “High Chapperal” even an episode with Tom Sellic on Magnum on a horse ranch that cattle rustling was part of the plot. God take care of you and comfort the family, all. R.I.P. Henry!

This is the only guy on t.v. my mom had the hots for,my parents watched all the westerns.I think he just recently passed away, mom passed 2008..
