Life's a Long Song (more recent version)

composer- Ian Anderson. In the video (recorded in 2002) of Ian playing this song with a a string ensemble, he changes the intro slightly from the original and lowers the key as well. Cheers!

Love all your lessons. First saw Tull on the Aqualung tour in ’71 in Boston…..spoiled for life. Always loved the acoustic stuff the best. Thanks for putting these lessons out there….so much fun to finally play the tunes I could never get quite right! That looks like a good New England style IPA. My fav. Cheers!

Glad you're enjoying them. Yeah, Tull was a force of nature in those days. I saw them first in '72 on the initial TAAB tour. Stunning display of musicianship, showmanship, and humor. Never seen anything like it before or since. It was an IPA! You are good.

This is a great lesson, Doc, always enjoy your posts! I bought a PRS SE Parlor P20E Parlor acoustic a few weeks ago just for this song, LOL! Turns out it's blast to play, can't hardly put it down. I had learned this version about a year ago on my Martin Dreadnought acoustic, but it's much easier for me on the Parlor.

Thanks so much! I love Parlor guitars. I have an OMC that I play quite a bit, but that's the biggest body I play. I'm playing it in this video. When I pick up my dreadnought these days it feels like it's huge. I have a Rainsong and an Orangewood parlor. Neither is great and I would like to find a better one. I'm sure the PRS sounds great!

Thank you! I'm playing a Martin OMC Aura here. One of my favorites, although it wasn't a hit. They didn't produce it for too long. I love it because the fret board is slightly wider, l but the neck is really thin so it still plays easy for my little paws. I usually record solo guitar with 2 mics but for this I just used one Neumann KM 184. It's a terrific pencil condenser mic on acoustic instruments. I roll off quite a bit of low and mid frequencies in post because that's how all the guitars were recorded back then. Almost no low frequencies so the acoustic guitar sat better in a mix. Cheers!
