Life of an OCD Auto Technician | Matco 4S 3 Bay (White) Toolbox Tour
Thanks to Chris for letting us take a peak into his immaculate Matco box. I tried my best to capture how clean everything was, but I felt I could eat off of any part of his box; inside or out. This was by FAR the cleanest kept (daily used) box I have ever toured!

Matco should call their white boxes the OCD series! I’m also a professional technician with OCD and you guessed it, I have a white Matco box. I bought mine in 2011 but it still looks like a new one as well. It’s moved to 3 different shops and I still love it!

I’m an aircraft mechanic and that trait of cleaning your work area and tools between tasks/jobs and inventorying your tools is an industry standard. It’s highly sought-after by employers because it’s both a necessity and leads to more efficient production.

I had a white Mac box in the late 90s ...never again ! White is hard to keep up with.
I love the Matco style on their boxes but I HATE the drawer retention, constantly squeaks and if you have them set to not come out when you move it you'll have to push them all the way closed or they will stick and just barely not close all the way. Hated it and couldn't set them to no resistance cause I moved my box around every day. Now I have a Cornwell 76" and it's great. A litter cheaper and not quite as strong, but it'll do until I get my dream white EPIQ Snap On box hahah8

Imagine how much money he'd save if he bought the tools from the original tool manufacturers that Matco just threw their name on and charged double for. Only thing he couldn't have gotten cheaper under a different name is the toolbox and rachets from them
@ToolBoxTour

Often times, it’s a matter of convenience. You could say that about any reselling business. Walmart, Target, Home Depot.. they all do the same thing. If you were to go to each supplier and purchase from them, you might save some money, but convenience is king. The warranty, truck stopping by every week, and customer service, are all reasons why people choose to purchase from one place even if you’re paying more. Thanks for watching!
@MostGenericUser
Жыл бұрын
@@ToolBoxTour we work hard for our money and the little effort it takes to buy the tools much cheaper online with a different name on them is easier than the work you had to do to earn that extra money you spent on the tool. The tools I buy I hope to never have to warranty and since I buy quality tools and use them as designed I've almost never had to ever warranty anything. In the event I have it's still less effort still than the work I had to do to earn the extra money I need to buy the same thing off the truck for more. I do buy tools off the truck but not rebrands because I just feel like I'm getting ripped off and I could save that money and spread it across more tools.
@markm0000
9 ай бұрын
Rebranded tools have a much better warranty than getting it from the source. It makes sense when you think of keeping that tool until retirement. Paying double or triple is suddenly not so bad when you get it replaced 20 times with no questions asked. Just look up how hard it is to warranty Knipex tools and you see why my set of catch-all pliers are Mac branded Knipex. That applies to basically every rebranded tool. The stuff that doesn't get used as often is perfectly acceptable to get a better deal. I have many tools from Japan that have zero warranty and the reason I'm not afraid to keep them in my box is because I barely ever use them.

OK, I have to ask the question : How do you manage your tools, that is, how to you keep pesky people from borrowing your stuff ? Is there some kind of code of honor at your shop ? Nice tools can sprout legs and walk away some times.
