Life of an Immigrant Comedian | Maz Jobrani | Talks at Google
Maz Jobrani is arguably one of the most well known and well loved comedians in the Iranian-American community, both young and old. His family immigrated to California from Tehran when he was only six years old, and he discusses what growing up in America was like during a time of heightened tensions between Iran and the US. Also mentioned is the story of how he started in the world of comedy and acting, and became successful while avoiding roles that required him to relay harmful stereotypes of foreigners. He also discusses the current political climate, and how the new Trump Administration affects the Iranian American community as well as his comedy.

I follow a Y.T channel with a girl who rides a motorcycle alone around the world. When she drove through Iran, it turned out that Iranians are the most decent, generous people with many smiles ..... and Iranian humor. Ordinary people are pretty much the same all over the world.

Thank you for coming to Google Maz :)
Love this laughing so hard
Maz, you're an amazing, talented artist, and not bad to look at!!!
As a 27 years old Iranian, I just don't trust the media. I have never seen a right representation on it(even media from my own country shows us different than the reality and media from outside is much worst). Stereotypes made for certain sick view points. It's very sad that with all these new possibilities of making films and sharing ideas on network, people still feed on the same stuff they've been fed before, And the reality is there, you must search for it to maybe find some levels of truth(who has time for that). And that happens to all of the minorities out there in the world. I'm happy to see people like Maz who are brave enough to say no to that. I'm happy that he chose to be a comedian.

So what's the right representation or where should i look for it?
@faranak_manjili

@@zayedadel8552 you can't see the real truth in one place but you can be aware and look for it and put it together somehow. like here when you ask me as an insider. if you meet the people you realize that they are no different from yourself or people in your own country. but the media and governments are trying to label and divide people around the world. They show us as some terrorists that want to blow themselves up and that's sick! most people I see around me here don't like to be religious or biased but they still stick with some traditions like funerals and some holidays etc. like people of other countries.
The host kiled the vibe
You're naturally funny Maz!
Well done Maz!

Maz Is an ambassador for humanity in general. Since 9/11, there’s been so much negativity based in ignorance towards people from the Middle East, specifically, but that same attitude can be directed towards any group of people. I lost a dear friend when her plane hit the Pentagon. I was terrified of Muslims at that point in time. However, I also taught at a school that combined civilians with American and foreign military. After 9/11, Muslims from allied countries became prevalent in our population, and I got to know them as individuals. They are awesome people who, more often than not, have more in common with Americans than many people believe. It’s important that people like Maz not engage in the stereotypes (clothing or whatever) so everyone realizes how much we all have in common. It leads to more love and less hate.

Yes, some POC voted for Trump. Weird, right? Being conservative in the US political way is different from being conservative in general. Jobrani talks from a very Bay Area and LA perspective.

my advise 4 ones not to negatively criticize Islamic Republic of Iran if they do not want to be involved of their politics as Iran is way different independently of family faith lifestyle and financial laws besides where they are to realize recognition by the financial and faith lifestyle of civil rights is worth not to be pressured and interrupted by wrong negative surroundings !
3:03 Your Welcome
Dude you are a comedian. People who get offended by your jokes can go watch something else. I think you don't need to be a genius to know that comedians make materials and shows to make people laugh and have a good time. "Supposedly" no explanations needed.

"most well known and well loved comedians in the Iranian-American community" ==> Blink, blink, say WHAT? When did we start describing a "group" of ONE PERSON as a "COMMUNITY"? Is some "American-Iranian" hiding in Tehran, telling "knock-knock" muhammad jokes during "beer pong" games?
