Life Lessons from a Donkey Ride - John

Almost half of the gospel of John is dedicated to Jesus' final week on earth. With that much Scripture dedicated to the topic, we must pay attention. In this Palm Sunday message, we look at Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, and discover the difference between practicing a religion and having a relationship with Christ.
This teaching is from our series Palm Sunday Messages with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Albuquerque.

    This message opened my thought of concerning why Jesus Christ came into Jerusalem on the young donkey and its representation of Prince of Peace and just for us as a lamb of sacrifice and especially helped me go through his suffering and to give us his holy Spirit of his resurrection

    BEST JOB IN THE KINGDOM IS TO BE A DONKEY! Going back about 25 years, I guess you could say I would have been voted least likely to be used by God. But God uses the foolish things of the world to confound the wisdom of the wise. That's pretty much the only way I can explain this whole deal. As a pastor, I never really fit the mold and can't say for sure that God actually called me into the ministry. And as a worship leader, my voice was far from great and my guitar playing was probably worse then my singing. Nevertheless God would show up manifestly when I led worship. Hear me now... In the south coast of Oregon there were a lot better guitar playing and better singing worship leaders than me. But I carried the glory of God which puzzled me. The whole thing just didn't make sense. Then one day while pondering on this, I heard the Lord say to me that I was one of his donkeys. I instantly understood. Now you have to understand, I was a master drummer and even got to be a rockstar during the late seventies. But God's plan was not to use me as a drummer. Instead he put me on guitar where I would make mistakes and really had to depend upon God for being able to pull off a good worship service from a skill perspective. But I've always had a passion for worship all the way back to the early seventies. When Jesus rode into Jerusalem, the donkey, that donkey heard the hosanna's and walked on the palm fronds... The rocks could have cried out. But the donkey knew not to touch the glory. The donkey knew to be compliant. To put a caboose on this train... I have no real natural greatness in me and I've screwed things up so many times during the course of my life. Maybe the only thing I've ever done right was to stay humble and that by grace. But I figured it out! If I don't touch the glory or become prideful, the power and anointing of God will ride on my back. I'm telling you the truth... While leading worship people would be saved healed and delivered because I stayed out of the way and let God be God. I did my best to keep my mouth shut until God said to open it. I became God's own donkey. It's the best job in the Kingdom. God is looking for those who have the heart of David... Those who will worship in spirit and in truth and not be afraid to make a mistake. GOD IS STILL LOOKING FOR DONKEYS.

    What is a donkey's colt? Does that mean a young male donkey? What is a foal of a donkey? Does anybody know?

  • @amybowles3171

    @amybowles3171

    3 жыл бұрын

    It is a young donkey (foal and colt both indicate age), and from what I've read, the significance is that animals fit for sacred use had never had a yoke or been used for another purpose (Num 19:2 is one example). Jesus rides on a colt never ridden on the day passover lambs were presented to families (coincidence that He presents Himself as THE Sacrificial Lamb? I think not😉) & of course fulfills Zechariah 9:9. Coming on a donkey was also a sign of His humility, simplicity, & peace-making intent: His Sacrifice brings us peace (kings rode on donkeys when they intended peace and horses when they meant to show military force...in Revelation He’ll come to declare war on a horse-may our community be a part of the Kingdom He’s fighting for)! Jesus didn’t come to be feared for His military prowess but LOVED for His Gentle Goodness. He didn't come to destroy their Roman oppressors, but rather their spiritual depravity. Hope this helps! (Disclaimer: I have limited theological study in a classroom setting--I went to SNU in Bethany, OK, to become and English teacher, but I love reading and learning, so if anyone more knowledgeable than I has something to correct or offer, please do!)

    Palm Sunday was on the 9th, not the 10th. Cf. John 12:1,12. The dinner for the Messiah was 6 days before Passover. Passover was on the 14th. 14 - 6 = 8. The day after the 8th (John 12:12) is the 9th, not the 10th.

    The synoptic gospels were about a triumphal entry the day before He was anointed by Mary (Hebrew, Miriam). The gospel according to John tells of a triumphal entry after the day the King was anointed for His burial. There were 2 triumphal entries.

    if Jesus were crucified in 32 Ad then Jesus would've been at least 36 when He was crucified. Herod died 4BC. Jesus was at least 2 before He died based on the timeline when Herod sought to kill Jesus as a baby. So Jesus would've been born at least 6BC. If Jesus would've died at 33 years of age, then He would've died 27AD. So either the 32AD is wrong or His age at the time of death is.

    A man this anointed would have no need to copy someone else. Friend, be careful when you speak against a brother in Christ. If your comment could harden a heart against hearing the word, then you have caused damage to God’s kingdom. I say this not to put you down, but to gently redirect your purpose.
