I found interesting how Max's trauma in the dark room could potentially be the reason why she takes pictures of desolate locations.

We were friends = Sacrifice Chloe We were high school sweethearts = Sacrifice Arcadia Bay These selections are in line with her conversation with Safi. Max is shielding her past and being vague as possible. Max is running from her past in this game.

Yes! It was implied a couple of times in the livestream that Max is omitting a lot of her past with her new friends, even Safi mentions her “running away from something”, so Max clearly is being secretive on purpose.

There is not a cannon ending because it is a choice game, and it wouldn't make sense if they made it one cannon ending.

I'm theorizing the we we're friends & high-school sweethearts was the sacrifice Chloe ending route. The picture of Chloe Safi see is the younger version of her. Max probably got a picture of her from Joyce

Something I thought is that maybe Max doesn't have the picture of Chloe in her wallet in both timelines. Maybe there's an earlier choice that indicates which ending you chose (ex. "Why did you leave Oregon?" "A storm wiped out my town / I lost someone close to me") and the "What's with the blue-haired girl in your wallet?" convo only happens later if you've indicated a Sacrifice Chloe ending. If you indicated a Sacrifice Arcadia Bay ending earlier on, maybe a different scene takes place where Safi comments on some other thing that indicates your past. To me, both options we see in the presentation ("We were just friends" and "We were high school sweethearts") indicate that Chloe might be dead. They're both past tense and sort of blow off the significance of the relationship, as you said. As well, the pic itself is of 2013 Chloe with her blue hair and skull shirt; could Max not have had access to anything newer because Chloe died? It also just makes much more sense overall for Max to be carrying around a token of her dead friend/gf rather than "we were high school sweethearts 10 years ago and just naturally broke up and moved on but I still have her photo on me everywhere I go" Last thing, but it could be possible that if Chloe is alive in the player's chosen timeline, maybe Max would carry around a more recent picture of her. Specifically, the picture of them together from David's trailer in LiS2. It is canon, as far as LiS2 is concerned, that Max and Chloe were on the road together until at least 2017 in the Sacrifice Arcadia Bay ending. It's still totally possible that they hung out with each other for a few years and then gradually split off 5-7 years before the events of Double Exposure. That would still give Max plenty of time to herself to develop her photography career and eventually end up at a university in Vermont. Max and Chloe cruising around the US together (eventually reaching New York) around the time of LiS2 would also fit into the "nomadic" lifestyle the devs mention her having during this presentation and would contribute to how she ended up on the east coast. This all might be a long shot and it definitely doesn't address everything (like Max and Chloe seemingly not being super close anymore no matter what you choose). But I think it's an interesting interpretation for now. And also comforts the part of me that fears this game won't acknowledge the little Arcadia Bay bits from LiS2 at all 🥲

Also! Addendum to my essay here The voices we hear in Max's head are from LiS1, very end of the final episode when Max is up on the cliff with Chloe overlooking the storm. But interestingly, they've been re-recorded. I'm guessing the voice who calls out Max's name is supposed to be Chloe's, but it's definitely not Ashly Burch. And Max's line ("I caused this! I caused all of this!") is the dialogue she says, and Hannah Telle is definitely the one saying it, but if you listen closely you'll notice that the take is a bit different. So it's a bit weird. It makes me think that maybe they have more lines of dialogue for Chloe in the future but they weren't able to get Ashly back. So they redubbed this line and any other LiS1 flashbacks with the new actress. Hope you don't mind all of these text blocks lol

Firstly, excellent excellent thoughts. Loved reading it and I love long posts so never feel sorry about it. To the last point, o YES okay I thought it sounded like that. VERY interesting it played when it did then. And o yeah, that definitely was a redone take by Hannah and definitely not Ashley. PTSD hitting Max hard!!!

What if when Max passed out it was an alternate reality Max possessing her similar to how Max possessed the one from the Chloe’s dad alive timeline in the first game. Max could even be the one who kills Safi. Just a theory.

I truly think they will use both endings in this parallel universe/timeline story that they have going on.

Absolutely. At least I really hope so. It's interesting though because the Rachel Amber alive timeline doesn't have to have Chloe around. Unless it's a timeline where both live, but I wonder if they just push Rachel and not Chloe

Max is probably not with Chloe anymore. It would be tough to keep a relationship based on I sacrificed everyone in Arcadia Bay for you to live. Now maybe Max gets over her guilt near the end of this game and they reconnect. Max taking picture of post apocalyptic scenes does not seem healthy.

I hope they have a side cameo with Alex and Daniel where she enters a portal and talks to them

same, it really sounded like LIS1 and reminded me of it so I'm not sure what's going to happen

I will say I do like the gameplay and where they going with this game get me a bit excited to see what Max Rewind story goes here

To be fair, I think that them letting you choose which ending you had based on the conversation that’ll take place with safi will be an alternative route/solution, because the way the question was asked was as quoted. “and so it’s been so long since the original game came out, for players who maybe don’t have the original console that they played it on, or let alone the save file from their life is strange 1 game, how will they import their previous choices?” Response to that being. “So Safi and Max will have a conversation early on in the game and Arcadia bay just comes up naturally in that conversation. So players can remake the choice then. Or can try the other way” So based on the question and response to said question, I believe that they will give you the option to import your choices from LIS1 if you are able to via having the same console or pc save etc. and for those who don’t have that option, they’re giving you an alternative option to be able to choose. and in that conversation that’ll take place with safi and max, if you already imported a save then they might make it so that max automatically tells Safi about Arcadia based on that save file information, rather than giving you the option to choose. Similar to how they did it in the opening recap of the walking dead the final season by telltale. I could be wrong about this and I’m ok with being wrong but based on how that question was phrased and answered, I think that could be a possibility of how they’ll handle it.

I like a seamless in-game way of selecting how the first game ended for you. But you realize that it was a choice that had major consequences. You can't dismiss in a few words the pain of Chloe's death or the destruction of a town. Pricefield shippers aren't going to like this. LiS is what got me interested in fanfiction and part of why I would like to move to Oregon.

I’m more excited to see you review this game since you are such a diehard of this series.

One thing I felt while watching the dialogue in the gameplay was. The jokes and sense of humor of the characters are not really my thing like they were when I played the first games. I accept that they're true to the series. But I hope I still enjoy them like I did before.

I started replaying the first one a few days ago and I'm just getting more and more hyped 😂

just dropped in to say i'm very excited about this game I got my name real name from the first game it was that impactful

I think the game is going to ask you at the beginning if you played the previous titles. After that you can make the big choices, like did you save Chloe. I predict that we will meet her no matter what. Because of the different timelines. I also assume that she has a role in the game (more than just messages). And with the dialogue, she probably just wants to avoid talking about Chloe, because she’s running away from her past. That’s the vibe I am getting. In the first game they said they wanted to be together forever. (If you let Chloe live) But let’s be real, being responsible for killing maybe hundreds of people or killing your best friend/ love… that’s very hard. Like to deal with it emotionally and psychologically. So I wouldn’t be surprised if Max and Chloe broke up. Doesn’t mean they cant get back together. I think one part of the game will be that Max learns how to deal with her past in order to grow as a person.

Bruh you have to remember 2015 was 9 years ago they were in high school even if you saved her a lot can happen in 9 years how many people do you know are still with the same person they were with at 15 she's 24 she has a career she's moved on people grow apart that's Life pun intended

My issue is the fact is what's the point of playing because they said the other Patel timeline won't change the fact that she's dead.

Not a fan at all. I'm definitely over paying for early access. But I gotta be honest, if there was ever a game you could suck all the money in the world out of me to play early...it's literally a LIS Sequel with Max. But I do hate it.
