My father lived in Hubbell. I haven't been back since I was 14 (now 61). I would say I am due.

3 years ago my Wife and I visited in late August. We left Mobile, Al. with 112 degree heat index. We finally were able to walk outside from airports in Marquette. It was about 70 degrees. We both felt like we just landed in Heaven.

You did land in Heaven! It doesn't get too hot here in the Keweenaw - we have Lake Superior keeping us cool. Most summers we'll get a few days in the 90s, sometimes reaching 100ºF. But average is 75-85.

@@berrymcockiner3906 I have no desire to even try. When it gets below 50 degrees I'm breaking out the thermal underwear! I belong on the Gulf Coast. I spent my first 19 years near Escanaba and couldn't get out fast enough. The next 37 years have been spent in Coastal Alabama. I still go to the U.P. every other year to see friends, but only in summer. I n those 37 years I never had to scrape a windshield, shovel snow, chop a hole in the ice just to catch a fish, or watch my truck rust before my very eyes. I still love Michigan with a passion, I always will. But I am going to be at least 1000 miles south of it during winter. Have a good day, Berry!

I seem to make it up into the Keweenaw at least once per winter; spent a week in Houghton last winter, and a week in Calumet this winter. I’ve loved every minute of it and can’t wait to come back!

it is a beautiful place but take it from a tech graduate. winter is hard here. you don't know what i'm talking about until you have lived it. if you think chicago winters are long you have no idea what you're in for here.

I've lived in Michigan all my 67 years, I'm retired, the last place I would live is there, especially in the winter! I'd visit during summer & fall ...but winter is out of the question! I'm done shoveling snow and driving in a blizzard!

My Great Great grandad opened the 1st mine in Keweenaw and we still own the land and mineral rights. We also ran Freda mill where we refined it. My Grandma's house still stands on shores of Lake superior Freda. I hunt in backwoods and have come across many abandoned mine shafts

I know, you want to keep it all for yourself. I would, too. Keweenaw may have more money now but I wish those rich people hadn't bought up the shore and started putting up mcmanchions. If the Mandan road ever gets paved you'll know it's, too far gone. Best memory of copper harbor is the breeze off Superior and the bouy bell ringing off and on all night.
