I just want to reassure you that you don’t have to quit dairy products completely. I stopped having cow’s milk in 2015 and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done for my skin. It’s sorted out my acne problems and I didn’t have to wait very long for it to happen. The thing you have to look at is the lactose content and please note that there isn’t as much in yoghurt or cheese. Also, it won’t affect you the same way if it’s cooked as part of a recipe for example. No need for me to drastically change the way I eat and I still eat eggs daily without any problems. I hope you can figure things out for you and it works as well as it has for me. Loved the vlog as always. ❤

My doctor suggested I avoid saturated fats because I have dense breast tissue which can put me at risk for breast cancer. So I avoid animal products except for fish once in a while. I eat a lot of whole food unprocessed plant based foods. I had bad acne too. Even though I didn’t make dietary changes for my acne, I still notice my complexion has drastically improved since my dietary adjustments. Not suggesting you should make a drastic change like me (I tend to overdo things)but maybe an elimination diet might be helpful to determine what foods you might be sensitive to or may be contributing to your acne. You’re on the right track. Your videos are amazing and continue to motivate and inspire me.

cutting out dairy was the key to clear skin for me! i’m totally fine with eating eggs and eat those just about every day, but i’ve avoided cream, milk, cheese, and yogurt for several years now. no more cystic acne and itchy skin! it’s hard to resist so many foods, but acne was hurting my confidence and was so uncomfortable for me that it’s totally worth it. i also avoid foods with artificial food coloring and try to avoid too much sugar and alcohol, which can irritate my skin. hope you find what works for you! i totally empathize with the skin struggle ❤

I have been following you for years, and really never comment. I can relate so much when you talk about your acne. I don't suffer from acne, but I do have psoriasis, and lately it's been popping up on my neck. I have changed my diet many times throughout the years, and it can be really difficult at times. Thank you for sharing your dairy/ egg free journey with us, dietary changes can be so hard, but it's so nice to see other people talking and sharing their experience with it.

I agree with you, it's amazing what our skin tells us about our bodies. I used to have severe upper arm acne to the point where I didn't want to wear anything that wasn't long sleeves. And even tho I was having some other small symptoms here and there they weren't strong enough for me to worry about it. It was in hindsight that I was able to see, oh that was caused by this too. Turns out it was a gluten allergy and the moment I stopped eating it my acne was gone, no joke 2 weeks in I saw a huge difference. Our bodies find a way to let us know something is wrong, especially with food allergies.

I had very similar acne two years ago in my late twenties. It was also on the side of my face. I saw a lot of skincare professionals and ultimately what helped was hydrating my skin better (internally and externally), wearing sunscreen daily and treating with azelaic acid, interestingly.

I had the clearest skin as a teenager and after 25, BOOM, the rest of my life has been dealing with adult onset acne. It improved for a small period of time, once I completely stopped drinking alcohol and cut down on my overall sugar intake, but for some odd reason it's worsened again so I also want to try cutting out all dairy. As always loved this video and so happy for Robin, her husband, and your whole family!

Hello Sophie! Cutting out dairy and sugar did it for me. In my late 30s, I tried a very low-carb diet to treat perimenopause symptoms. The results were incredible, the first positive change I noticed was my skin, completely clear and plump. Then my body weight dropped (I've always been on the thinner side), but for some reason my stomach stuck out all the time. Which, later made me realized that I wasn't gaining weight, just very inflamed (due to digestive issues). After 6 months, I started incorporating eggs and some dairy products. I am now in my second year of what I like to call a ketovore lifestyle. I have learned that we have to find our unique diet, one that suits us as individuals. In my early 20s, carbs were all I ate and I looked/felt great! Now in my 40s, a low carb, high protein/healthy fat diet does it for me! Much love and blessings! 🫶✨

my sister and i both noticed (for our bodies and skin especially), when we have too much dairy and gluten (and refined-sugar), our eczema starts to flare-up and the acne comes back 😩 i will sometimes have a sensitivity to eggs, but have never noticed it affecting my skin. i try to avoid dairy as much as possible and will use alternatives instead such as coconut milk (especially when baking or cooking things like stews/sauces/curries ... smoothies/chia pudding, etc.) organic oat and almond milk is great too - the malk brand is awesome, and there's a company called "mooala" and also "kiki milk" you can find online which are great as well! thank you for always sharing with us your journey sophia - you're absolutely such a beautiful soul and beautiful person - blessings to you always girl!

If I learned anything about changing my diet it’s to not take it too seriously and know that you only have to do it for 2-4 weeks to see if it makes a difference in your skin/gut/etc. You’re brave to cut out two things at once! I consider dairy and eggs totally separate things. For what it’s worth I think you’re much less likely to be sensitive to eggs than dairy. These days I only avoid gluten, but there was a time when I was completely gluten, dairy, soy, grain-free. I did it, but it wasn’t a great time. I’ve since been able to add most back in, though I naturally don’t eat as much dairy and soy. Good luck Sophia!

I have always heard food plays an important part in how acne flair up but I’ve been just ignoring it until i saw how crazy changing a small part of my diet would make such a difference- for better or worse- when i moved to portugal for a few months , due to changes in the grocery availability there , i started supplementing my protein intakes with protein shakes and bars instead of fish and meat , and every single day I woke up with at least 2 painful sore acne on my face. It was not until moving back to France and by chance stop eating those whey proteins products that my breakouts stopped… I think starting to make changes in your diet will greatly help! ❤❤

i’ve never really had bad acne before but last year i broke out all over my chin and i thought it was because i stopped taking birth control (had already been over 6months off it) and because of dairy / eggs. Turns out it was because i started running and training for a half marathon and i guess the cortisol or my body just didn’t handle the stress well (i was running 25-30miles a week). Unfortunately I love running so I’ve had to give this up, but not completely. I’ll still run 2-3miles once or twice a week and I am completely acne free. Everyone’s body is different so i hope that you’re able to figure it out because i can totally resonate on how defeated acne can make you feel! ❤

For me acne was definitely affected by lactose, I drink Fairlife/Lactaid milk almost every day now and didn't have any issues as I did when I used to use normal dairy milk. I did notice if I had greek yogurt every day I would start to break out, so I do limit it but not eliminate it completely, I think I have it once or twice a week without any breakouts. I wish you luck in figuring out what works for you!

Hi Sophia, I used to think like you. I'm healthy and I take care of myself, I'm sure it's something I eat. Later I discovered that it wasn't what, but how. Water first thing in the morning, then high protein breakfast with the first bite being the protein, then coffee. That's my morning routine. I stay away from sugar and sweets, except if it is at the end of a meal but in moderation. I always include protein in my meals. The key is the spikes in glucose, cortisol, hormones... as soon as you learn to balance your life, it shows in your body and especially in your skin. I hope you find what works for you, all of us who suffer from acne at some point in our lives know that where those small pimples affect the most is not on the skin, but on the mind. Lots of love! 🥰

I was struggling with an eczema flare pretty severely this past year and one thing that really helped (not the only thing though) was getting water filters for my shower and sink (LA’s water is so hard and the additional minerals can irritate skin for people with eczema or acne). It’s not something I considered before until my partner read about it and we tried it out. Also I love a tofu scramble as a substitute for eggs in the morning! Plus many recipes include nutritional yeast, a good source of B12, and tumeric which is anti-inflammatory. Hope you try it out!

sugar has been my culprit for acne. After limiting the amount of sugar I consume it has made a huge difference. Anythign that spike your glycemic level is linked to bumping up the hormone that causes oil production = acne. So something else to try if dairy isn't your culprit!

Lovely vlog Sophia and congrats to you and your family! : ] As an adult struggling with acne, I've found having too much sugars (added sugars) and touching/picking my skin, to be the major causes of my acne. I have experimented and done what you're trying for the last 4 years. Eggs, whole milk, and aged cheeses turned out to not be a problem at all. It's was the sugar (especially maltodextrin) to caused problems for me! Tips: Using bentonite clay mask before my nightly shower and skincare helped significantly, especially since my face runs oily with all the sebum (if you know what I mean, you know). A gentle moisturizing gel/cream (love Aveeno) is still needed. In the morning, I use a 2% salicylic acid cleanser, and sunscreen (Beauty of Joseon). I know the struggle is real, I hope these tips can help, good luck!

I want to echo what some people have said. I cut regular milk out and I still limit cheese but in 2015 i cut out regular milk and my skin has been a lot better. I have some hormonal breakouts but not nearly as much as I used to. I still eat eggs and sometimes cottage cheese. The dairy was a huge part. I also switched to Korean skincare (outside of my YTTP cleanser) and it has done wonders on my skin. If you are interested I can give you the products I use. I don’t want to list products unsolicited lol. But you’re not alone. I felt the same way about my skin. And it took a while for me to get it right.

Try whatever you feel is necessary and for however long. I complete an 8-week elimination diet this weekend and it has changed everything. My energy is insane, skin is better than ever, I realized that we can truly eat amazing meals without certain things. An elimination diet is - no dairy, grains, eggs, legumes, nightshades, inflam oils, nuts and seeds, all added sugar. It’s absolutely been the toughest thing I’ve EVER challenged myself with but the most rewarding results ever. I start to re-introduce the foods I took out next week and I’ll obviously see how my body reacts. This is the longest comment ever but I know anything is possible after going thru this myself!

Hello! Long time but shy follower here! You probably don’t remember me but I crossed paths with you at Sugar and Twine in Richmond, VA a long time ago (I’m a native Richmonder!). You were so kind, honest, genuine, and down to earth back then, and I’m so happy to see that while you have grown in many beautiful ways, the core of you has remained the same. It has been awesome to witness you grow into the beautiful person you are today. Thank you so much for sharing about your life when you don’t have to. I’m so happy for your sister and your family in this season of life, and wish you all the love and joy! Maybe if cutting out dairy doesn’t quite work for you or if you’re still having issues with acne, you could try changing up your skin care routine? I suddenly started to break out a lot one day. At first I thought it was because of my diet (which probably did contribute to it), but it turned out after months of trying to figure out the food culprit, my skin was just dry and I needed to start using more hydrating skincare. I noticed this change a couple years into my 30’s. I’m not sure if that is helpful or if you’ve already tried, but I thought I might share my experience 😊 Keep doing what you’re doing and keep being you! Can’t wait for more of your future videos! ❤

Still think its worth lowering your dairy intake just to see if it changes anything, however considering your acne is mainly cheek/close to hairline related, it could be more to do with beauty products you're using and/or things that sit against your face (pillowcases for example). Try changing your pillowcases literally daily to new ones and see if that helps out, and maybe switch up some beauty products.

I love eggs for breakfast!! But with you trying to stay away from them but also wanting a savory alternative? When I was little we didn't eat dairy and we would make "scrambled tofu". Just scramble and break it up and flavor it with your paprika, garlic and onion, add some turmeric for the yellow color and it's delicious. So yummy and healthy and just use like scrambled eggs on toast, in your burrito.

Hey Sophia, I'm struggling with my skin too, I notice it is around that time of the month/stress - could yours potentially be hormonal too?

Try doing soy free diet too! I always had issues with my skin too. I tried doing dairy free diet, it did help a lil, but no tremendous change. But damn, quitting soy milk was the way to go for me. I have clear skin now, and only having occasional pimples.

Pls try differin gel to treat acne. I had worse acne than you. It is game changing. Pls give it a try. Seriously, I don’t really think food matters that much, but apply differin on daily basis, you will be amazed to see the result

Sophia, you should cut out dairy first and see how your skin reacts. So this for 2-3 months. And if there is no improvement, then you can remove the egg. Eggs are parve- it does not fall into meat or dairy. Also, have you tried taking Spironolactone for acne???

Sophia put castor oil on your knee it will get rid of inflammation it will heal it trust me my knee was so painful and it is gone do it consistently if you put some pain cream first then the oil on top because castor oil is the only oil that penetrates all the layers of skin so any product you put underneath will go deep I use it as the last step in my skincare and my skin looks great it's great for acne too it's antimicrobial.

I cut dairy out 10 years ago for my eczema. Long story short I never looked back and my skin has improved tenfold. Eggs (for me) are fine as it’s not dairy.

Hi- I would recommend seeing a naturopath doctor, they can help do labs/bloodwork and analyze what may be causing the acne internally (hormones, diet, food intolerances, exercise, etc) and help you find ways to solve it naturally =)

2 things I can offer: Consider eliminating bacon,or once a month at most. It's not healthy for us Also Greek yogurt behaves a bit differently, its fermented. So think about adding it back in your diet after these 3 weeks of jo dairy is up to see if it triggers an outbreak again. Cuz we know how healthy it is. Good luck!

Dear Sophia I have an acne tip that might help you or someone who is struggling with acne. As a person how struggled with the acne for years, I tried everything. Supplements, treatments, DIET, very expensive skin care products ect. The only thing that really helped me was to STOP using skin care products. Since the day I stopped using all those skin care products I didn't had a pimples ever since. Sometimes your body needs to heal itself in a natural way. It might sound like a cliche but not doing anything might help more than overdosing your body with the products that your skin naturally doesn't accept. ALSO. Anything that contains lactose has a hight level of HORMONES and that might cost you an acne. You don't have to necessarily cut all dairy food for the rest of your life, but lower its consumption can make a difference. If you balance hormones in your body, you'll never need to be afraid of eating any kind of food. Hope it will help you🩷

Adult acne sucks. It’s a cycle for me I get one week of the month with glowing skin and then bam hormones kick in, starts all over again. It’s not extreme acne but it’s enough to be uneasy about.
