Life in lockdown Wuhan: The Coronavirus epicentre two months into the pandemic

Jialan Cai is a Wuhan citizen who's been in quarantine for the past two months due to the coronavirus outbreak.
She gives us an insight into her life under lockdown with her mum and grandma, where she plays badminton indoors, gardens on her balcony and practises the cello to pass the time.
Jialan lives in a community of flats, where other residents are helping each other get through the lockdown by sharing items and food. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)

AS A COUNTRY , SHARING THE SAME ROOT , knowing that TODAY ONE OF their habits, or one part of their culture or beliefs can HURT SO BADLY THE REST OF THE WORLD ..THEY Should DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. CHINA , RUSSIA, Kosovo, Moldova , Uruguay.. etc since the smallest one to the largest country in the world . If your country, your people doing something horrible ..AS A RESPECTFUL HUMAN BEING..You should do something about it .. at least .. somehow use internet to spread globally the fact of the situation . It is called “ COMMON SENSE” . ANYWAY.. I am done with this .. This virus escaped from wuhan from a french lab with the collaboration of the chinease its a labatory p4 meaning.. its a lab that shelters the most dangerous bacterias in the world!! Virus and everything .... . So what happend,?? no one really knows.. they do tests on bats, mice, rabbits...They also work on milirary weapons chemical weapons. They created this virus and done tests on bats So perhaps a bat escaped ? We now know tis virus has 2 strains , in simple biology we know that 2 strians in the nature dont find each other. So, who put this 2 together?? lol I wonder...We now Sars killed a lot of chinease and the they all got vaccine. When a lab "creates " a virus they usualy have a vaccine to , prob tested it on animals .. NOw lets see who will pay for this first?? SOmeones about to make a lot of money:!! Maybe the PASTOR lab??

Thank you Jialan, your country seems to be winning the battle. At first in the US people thought it was awful to lock down so many people, but now many here wish our government would care more for us. I'm an elder with weak lungs and have been in voluntary isolation for two weeks now. My friends and neighbors thought I was crazy and over-reacting when I bought medical grade masks and stocked up on food and paper goods before any cases were reported and some were angry they couldn't come into my RV, where I live in a park. How inconvienient, oh my. I'm not afraid of dying, but don't want to die of something stupid I could have prevented. Plus, I have a fine dog and care very much for her and don't want to leave her alone. I hope our community will pull together like yours. Our president has made people distrust each other almost like a civil war between the Trumpites and the Democrats and our congress is afraid to fart without his approval. He lies about the measures available for our protection and doesn't want to know how many people have the disease and where it is spreading, and it is spreading fast all around us. I live on the coast in N. California in a very small community with fresh air from the ocean (I know that doesn't help, but it feels good to say it) and they say no cases in our county (province) yet but, without testing, who knows. There are 5 people in the local hospital waiting for results, 2 weeks wait. Nothing will ever be the same again. You, and your country have given me some small hope: That we as a species can rise to face these changes with the best of ourselves and not let our fear and differences drive us into self destructive barbarism. All best wishes to you and your family and extending outward to all of us.

And it doesn't help that our politicians and media make a joke of it. One man, in a press conference made a big scene touching all the microphones of the many journalists there, then tested positive the next day. Another Senator thought he was just so clever to wear a WW2 gas mask on the floor of Congress, he too tested positive. And just yesterday our president was ignorantly, no, purposely shaking hands (only a few dared refuse) with many other politicians on national TV. If this were a stupid sit-com or 'reality' TV show people would laugh hysterically because it is so unbelievable. Believe it.

I mean look at it, they've barely said anything as this virus is still very new, and grocery stores in this country are EMPTY. now, add "by the way, if you get it there's a good chance you could die" that would lead to far more than empty shelves! Hoarding supplies makes no difference to the government other than the fact they can profit further by prolonging the panic. Even the world health organisation has questioned the herd immunity concept and we as citizens are demanding to see the science behind the decision... Big surprise the government won't present it because they know their strategy is BS and is more about keeping the economy afloat than safeguarding it's citizens. Hello Jialan, I live in Texas, a long way from your city and country. However, I feel a bond not only with you but with your family and the people of your community. My wish is for your people to stay healthy and hopefully the crisis will end soon. Our government has requested that we stay home, except for essential places that we need to go, including gasoline, groceries, doctors, hospitals, and things like that. The schools in my town closed about 3 weeks ago for the rest of this school year. One ironic thing is that gasoline here cost $1.44 a gallon, which is very cheap, but we are limited in the places we can drive to. State and national parks are closed, beaches, movie theaters, baseball, football, soccer and other sports are not being played. So what if the gas was free, what good would it do many of us? There's very few places we can go! I certainly enjoyed your video and showing us how you are living currently and how to take this time to learn new things, to practice things we already do (musical instrument), to plant things and watch them grow, and to appreciate life in general. I know we will get through this crisis and all of us will be changed...hopefully changed for the better. Hold your family and loved ones close, give thanks for all that you have, and we will do the same here. Goodbye for now, be safe, be healthy.

She says she's a student in the UK at the start. Most East-Asian foreign students have excellent English, they're just too shy to speak it in front of native speakers because they often get laughed at. Compare it to a Westerner trying to speak Chinese, where they'll get praised no end by locals who take it as a compliment foreigners are trying to speak their language. Shame there's that disparity.

My hometown is in Zhejiang province. The lockdown situation has lessened (we have been having 0 new cases for days) but people are still being cautious of going outside too often. My parents have also joined the community online chatting group in our residential area. Members of the group always offer to supply various fresh produce when they travel to their families and friends. The supplies will be dropped at the door (no in-person communication) and payment via chat group later. My parents are buying new stuff everyday including fresh fruit and great seafood delivered directly from farmers/producers - they need help in the market during this hard time as well. Have to say Chinese communities are amazing in supporting each other during this crisis.

@@audioedits789 same! It feels like our government has abandoned us and all they are concerned about is keeping the economy afloat! Apparently money is more important that human lives 🙄 I know I shouldn't be surprised at that but for them to suggest "herd immunity" if they carry it out they will be condemning at the very minimum 2% of our population to death. We are 14 days away from Italy and I'm not willing to go down without a fight so personally I have introduced specific measures into our household. I have basically locked myself down, my other half continues going to work whereas I can work from home so we take our temperature's twice a day. We use hand sanitizer or wash our hands after every activity and when I have to go out I wear disposable gloves. As face masks are too expensive I found out how to make my own n95 mask so that's what I did. I would rather our government lock us down now so we can ride it out as opposed to the general population having to figure out what measures to take and some people making poor choices that will infect others 😤🤬

I would prefer to be in China now, than amongst this crazy "herd immunity" when they can hear and see what's happened in Italy. Just heard a scary rumour that NHS will not treat people over 60, will be left to die. Wonder about it's validity, however what a scary thought. This herd immunity leaves people to their own accord, if not fit enough, let you die, fit enough develop this allegedly "herd immunity", which hasn't been proven yet. But there are cases and evidence of people contracted COVID more than once. Even 1% -3% of population equates to many deaths, but government last Friday, not banning mass gatherings stated not really infectious?! What about Iran, South Korea? Not checking borders, entire model reliant on people's self isolation after after symptom develops, NHS will not provide tests unless you are at critical stage, raises doubts about their intentions to reduce reported contracted numbers. Really does not inspire trusts at all, only scepticism and distrust, so people have taken matters into their own hands and ignored government advice, taken own children out from school, organisations stopped mass gatherings on own accord.

vxGm I'm from the UK - a small pretty "backwater" city on the North East coast region - now relies much on tourism. My Government!!!! Put mildly they are so totally clueless, I can only see the whole country being devasted, but we've no provinces to back us up for food etc. we rely almost totally on other countries for our basic necessities. We're not even wearing masks, although from lack of testing, we probably have between 5,000 more likely 10,000+ infected people as of yesterday. I am very grateful to the ordinary people of China for posting videos on here. Grateful to your world status scientists for sharing their research so generously with the West. It's the 1st time I've been taught how to take a mask off properly. I'm encouraged because I also leave my outdoor clothing in a porch. Our government just tells us to wash out hands but doesn't show us how to do it to decontaminate ourselves. My heart aches that you have suffered so much particularly Wuhan, & is moved with gratitude that in the midst of your suffering, you try to help us on the other side of the world who are about to suffer.
