An excellent documentary by a very genuine person.I met Lyse Doucet in Islamabad, Pakistan in june 1990(or 1991).Then again, two weeks later,at our Shandur Polo games. She tells us that she has fallen in love with Afghanistan, then goes on to prove it by the sensitive and loving, almost sad, language she uses for the country and it's people.A moving documentary. May her prayers for Afghanistan be answered.
Massive respect for Lys Doucet , showing how to report on a place and people . In a caring , respectful way . ⭐️💚⭐️🙏

Only one disappointment about this interesting documentary: many questions this lady asked to the Afghanistan’s were answered only in their own language leaving us wondering what they said. It would have given us more of an understanding of their daily lives if interpreted in English.

Like that boy was saying, he likes skiing cos it makes him feel like a bird in sky, yet lady is talking about him being a ski champion 🙄. You can tell from her face, she has no ideas, while she’s just relying on her laurels(connections) of before Talib times. Great travel infomercial nonetheless
My prayer is with you, all people of Aghanistan. I met one kind Aghanistan a guy, who came as refugee to New Zealand. It was difficult for him being in foreign country for the first time, but I gave him a mental support, not to give up as he began to study English for his first year. I directed him where he could meet his compatriot of the same faith and from the same country Aghanistan , in Auckland city, who would help him to progress. They are kind people. I met a kind lady from Aghanistan with her good looking boys in the supermarket. They came many years ago as refugees to New Zealand. it is sad, to see what has happened to Aghanistan , but Lord God is in charge, and He also loves the people of Aghanistan. Taliban needs to change. Taliban's leaders need to work together with the world leaders for the better change and prosperity of Aghanistan in the future. May we treat and accept them with kindnes , who come as refugees, as they have suffered so much for many years. It must be hard as they have to leave their beloved country.
I love that she speaks the language and loves the country. I like her attitude and appreciation of the culture 😁

When someone really likes human beings they feel comfortable with them no matter how much different they are and people from other races, cultures, languages and religions can feel the good vibe toward them. Also it is the way your parents raised you.
I consider myself to have been so lucky to have seen those amazing Buddhas. I was there in the 1970's. It is unbelievably sad that they no longer exist.

This documentary is a very touching one. Thanks a lot to Madam Lyse Doucet. I heard you said that life expectancy in Afghanistan is around 45 years, it is very sad and made me surprise. I checked it and find that in 2011 life expectancy is 61.55 years and 64.49 years in 2018, the source is World Bank. But maybe you have other source for that 45 years. Anyhow, this is a very amazing and wonderful documentary especially because of your emphatic, friendly and respectful appearance to the beautiful culture and life of the Afghan people.
Instead of needing to understand the words, I felt the real-ness of the beautiful place and people and empathize with their hardship in a gorgeous sliver of this planet where at least they aren't at war with each other.....thanks so much to Kate Humble for her documentaries. I was in this area during 2003-2004, 99% percent of the people just wanted to live their life in peace, could care less about the U.S forces or the taliban. The Afghans I encounter were really decent, made this awesome 🐐 stew and Chai tea that to this day is the best drink I've ever had. It's really crazy to walk through some of these places and not much has changed since the days of Alexander.

If the people of Afghanistan are not willing to stand up to an extremist group that doesn’t give women any rights, then I’m gonna start losing respect for Afghan people. That’s the bottom line. I’m not gonna be passionate for their human rights and they don’t even care about their own
I have a great admiration for this lady, Lyse Doucet, her honesty, her enthusiasm, her respect for the people and the country made me feel that some people do really care about other human beings in countries that some other people regard as barbarians. She gives this view of people like any of us with aspirations of a better life. I feel sorry that women don't take part of public life. I wished I understood what some of those people were saying. But I enjoyed this documentary very much. Many thanks. Milagros Vecino

Wonderful person Lyse Doucet, I just became acquainted with her excellent reporting the last sad, tragic month. I hope she keeps safe. This documentary is priceless! I think this version (from the Tracks channel) is a bit of a bootlegged copy, missing features from the BBC original, with subtitles. Also there are parts with sound mixing loss, i.e., Lyse's voice can't be heard well above surrounding noise. But I'm glad this is available, now more than ever, a valuable document. During my time in Iraq I loved the markets that would set up within our compound. Bootleg movies and more! Of course, my paranoia would set in at times thinking about where that money was going. For those of you who are curious, Afghanistan is currently sitting still on a GDP per capita PPP of 2.200 (it shows how rich people are, adjust for the prices of things in their own country) and have had that for the last 8 years. In comparison the US has a GDP per capita PPP of 62.500 and Germany has a GDP per capita PPP of 53.000.
