This is a beautiful tribute to the city. I hope residents will be able to see it like this again.
Lucy, You are quite the 'ambassador' for the Northwest Territories. Thanks! From the States.
Wow i did not expect to see that many buildings in Yellowknife!
It seems like it would be a cool place to be from about mid-June till Labour Day
I swear I am from Yellowknife in a prior life. I am so drawn to this place. Definitely on the bucket list!
I watch the weather all throughout the year I live in Wisconsin USA and I laugh and show other people on Facebook just how darn coldly gets up there it's funny. So I just looked at the forecast for February 1st and it's funny the low tonight's gonna be -37 below 0 but tomorrow it's going to go up to a balmy heatwave of -27 below of a high That is hilarious we hear Wisconsin think when it's 4 below wow wow wow wow wow be careful I love this crap when we're just a bunch of wimps to those tough Northwest territory
Great video! I have family there and I visited twice now. Very beautiful in the but cold in the winter!
I'm Mexican and it's fun to watch how people live in remote parts of the world. I cannot imagine living in a place that gets colder than 45 Celsius lol But thanks for sharing; the place looks interesting.
As you said, Super expensive. Just like any other place, the times are nothing like they used to be. I think we should bring back the pencil and paper days. A completely different world then. Yes, I'm a senior and remember those days.
I grew up in Yellowknife and I'm not going to lie, I actually miss it. I would love to move back one day.

@@PetrenaSchellI chatted with a woman about 15 years ago who lived in Yellowknife and worked for the Canadian version of child protective services. She was nice. It sounded interesting. Greetings from Washington state.
I never even knew of the existence of this town until a few years ago. A Canadian guy living here in the states told me he was visiting his family in Yellowknife up in Canada and I had no idea where this place was or why I've never heard of it.
Great video, brings back so many memories. I spent about 15 years in Yellowknife in the 70’s and 80’s, mostly living in Old Town directly across from Ragged Ass Road. I would look out my kitchen window while doing the dishes and occasionally spot a brave tourist trying to pry the street sign off from the pole. Eventually the city got smart and welded the sign in place, leaving notice that Ragged Ass Road signs could be purchased at city hall. Anyways, I miss being out on the frozen lake in the winter and just being amazed at the northern lights. And don’t get me started on the fishing!

Ditto! I’m glad to hear my native tongue. I know there are Filipino residents there. My family has been living in Southern Ontario Canada for over 25 years. Thank you Petrena for posting.
When I lived in Gjoa Haven in the 90s and 2000s, my regular trips to Yellowknife were such a treat and I would jump with excitement every time I'd take the Darryl's shuttle from the airport to my hotel and looking at the "skyscapers" of downtown Yellowknife. I really miss my little town.
Spent many weeks in Yellowknife because my Daughter lives there. Love the city and loved the tour. Thanks
Sensational, it was just like going through all those places physically.
I was fortunate when I drove up there one winter some years back and got a chance to drive across that steep bridge across the Mackenzie river. That must've cost a mint build ? Going across the ferry would've been ok too. I wonder if the permafrost has warped the road much going into Yellowknife ? Must be a pain the butt for truckers with their semi's ! I must say driving into this metropolis in the middle of nowhere was an interesting experience !
Thanks for the tour. Yellowknife is on my bucketlist.
Hello from Florida, what a nice looking city.
Went to Sir John Franklin highschool, stayed in Akatcho Hall late 70s early 80s
Back in the day when I grew up there at noon their was a siren that would blare to warn of rock blasting. You could feel the ground shake a little sometimes. It’s beautiful and full of life in the summer. I highly recommend it.
I lived in Yellowknife for one summer in the early 80's and had a ball. It sure has changed but I remember the Wildcat Cafe!
Strange that even up north there is housing crunch. I understand Toronto, Vancuover as there is bigger population. But there is less population up north so they should be able to build more housing there.
It looks like a very interesting town. Thanks for sharing this unusual place with those who will likely never see it in person. I can't even imagine how cold it must get. Chris West Hollywood, California

I visited Yellowknife in 2012. Nice town.I want to return soon!
I worked summers, when I was a college student, at a smelter in Montana that would occasionally get a shipment of ore concentrates that arrived in small tin barrels that were marked "Yellowknife, Northwest Territories." That ore was so rich that it was kept in a building called the "high grade shack," and more than once I was told to just stay there for 8 hours to make sure no one took any of the stuff. So you-all up there must have been digging up some juicy sweet ore.
Excellent video!!! It appears that you know how to capture anyone's attention by making every video you do. Your style is wonderful, Petrina!! The house boats stir up a lot of questions for me. Question regarding, water supply, sewage, heating, ice damage, access during thin ice periods...etc. Unless of course they’re just summer homes.
Dear Petrena Schell. I found you while searching for information on youtube. Your video is beautiful and relaxing. It gave me rest while I was looking for information for my project and I thank you for that. A few issues are very important to me. I would be very happy if you answer. "Where are the Industrial Industrial Zones in Canada in the North Country Regions? Especially in the Nunavut Region, where are the manufacturing industry - textile sector - and where can I find information?" (Kind regards)
Beautiful - so different from dry South Africa

I suspect the reason for the housing crunch is that like Alaska, the government probably owns most of the available land. There’s no shortage of physical land in Canada.
