LIFE IN A HISTORIC COUNTRY FARMHOUSE IN TUSCANY, ITALY (Renovating A Ruin Part 3)

Buongiorno! This episode I interview the caretaker of the farm where we're renovating the chicken coop and turning it into a little rustic one-bedroom apartment. Egisto has lived on this hill in Tuscany for 81 years and has much to teach me about the history of the farm and the old-fashioned way of life in the countryside in Italy. Spring is almost here so I tried to film the flowering trees and plants that are now in bloom. I believe it is respectful to think about a place's history before starting a renovation or construction project so this is a little tribute to the bygone era and the dolce vita that is slowly disappearing from villas and country farmhouses across Italy. You can find many more videos on my channel about how I learned Italian and moved to Italy. Thank you so much for watching. The music in the intro is ‘Fantastica’ from 1958 performed by Nicola Arigliano. While I know many people love the ‘renovation’ part, I also want to create a community here who believe in researching a place’s history and cultivating a sensitivity to what has come before us. Hope you like it. 😊🙏

God bless him, all that hard work, and healthy homegrown veggies, great olive oil, and cheeses, wine and so much more keeps him happy and healthy. He is proof eating well, and doing what you love keeps you healthy. Since it's now 2022, he is 82 years old, I bet nothing has changed. He must still be looking young and healthy as ever! Fascinating - thank you, Kylie - beautifully conceived, filmed, and edited as always! Documenting Egisto's memories has taken you to a new level. I live in France now, and they are still trying to come to terms with what happened during the Nazi occupation in the last war. Like Italy, this southern region - under the Vichy régime - sided with the invaders. Just two years ago in our next commune they erected a little engraved stone monument on the verge of a track outside the village. It commemorates (after so many years) a 14 year old boy who was thought to be a 'collabarateur', helping the local Résistance by carrying messages They took him there and shot him, dead. It is very poignant . . . we must never forget.

@@KylieFlavell I think at first I wanted that kind of big success for you but now I prefer what you have created..a life rich with experience and sharing these beautiful films with us. They are short documentaries recording the beauty and culture of Italy combined with your natural talent and aesthetic. I want you to continue this adventure with love and stay connected with us, your tribe. Very selfish of me but if you were my daughter I would feel the same. What you have now is success.

Awww old fashioned romance is not gone. I kept smiling and giggling at you and Guido dancing. He really does seem like an old school gentleman its so refreshing to see that. And to see how playful and real you two are together is just lovely. 2.47 was a interesting frame of film with the contrasting colours. Equally the blossoms aw I just love spring. The little bee I was proudly wondering what his daily rounds pollinating flowers was like that day. Great news for the stones, super happy that some history will be preserved. Babdamante was super interesting I love that they have a special gift that connects them to nature. The history of the church and the farm over the years was such a joy to watch. That's one of the things I love about Italy eventhough times are progressing they still hold onto long standing traditions and take pride in that. You all helping Egisto with the grounds reminds of the work we will be doing at the allotment soon, it's hard work but the rewards are worth it. True love and knowing you can find the right person to share life with is such a lovely outlook to aspire to have. Egisto and Eva seems to have found it. Such an eye opening and inspiring episode. Grazie tesoro. Alla prossima, ciao 🥰🥰🥰 xxxxxx

Thank you. I know how hard it is to actually take the time to comment, especially when it seems that many are already sharing their response. But what you may not know is that I wake almost every morning to quite a few horrible comments and emails. People saying things that are quite hurtful and as much as I try, even though I block them from this channel or don’t respond to their hate or delete their nasty words, I can’t get through the day without thinking of the insults every now and then. So in this moments, comments like yours really remind me to focus on the good and the kind. 🙏😊

Thank you. What a way to wake up this morning! The part about the partisans was sad. My Dad was a just a kid, not a legal adult, when he served in the war (I'm from the East coast of the USA). Later, stationed in Terceira, we became friends with the woman who help my young Mom, and her family. We used to have dinner at their 2 room beach house, and play with a bowl of dried corn, pick vegetables for dinner, sing, etc. Happy times! I loved Egisto's stories. I'm so glad to find another person who loves old things and the history of the environs as much as I do. I will get excited and go on and on... look, doing it again!
