From towering cumulus to thunderstorm in just over 10 minutes, this cell produced frequent lightning/thunder, most of which was intracloud. Over 300 strokes were recorded by LEELA ATD, and 13 cloud to ground strokes by ALDIS.
Recorded in 32 bit wav stereo - Apologies, we do talk a fair bit in the video since we were all excited, but there are periods of calm and quiet where all you can hear is lapping waves at the lough shore, birds, and distant angry rumbles of thunder in the storms updraft.
Initially targetting Omagh area for storms earlier in the day, where strong convergence and instability resided, we ended up leaving that location as multiple cells fired and began choking each other off. We then headed to the Lough, Ballyronan specifically, which remained somewhat capped in the early afternoon, but experienced a lot more solar heating. With the convergence zone shifting gradually east over time, we decided to head out into the warmer air ahead of it in the hopes of catching an isolated storm.
