the real joy of living in Chiang Mai is when you have a relationship with local people - especially if you get out of the city center. The 'upcountry' vibe is based on agriculture, small local community, and family values. Not necessarily easy to meet folks like that but there are ways to get involved outside the expat community

Hi there, thank you for your kind comment. As far as we're concerned, Bob did ship his books, records and household goods to Thailand. Bob handled the shipping process independently so we do not know the details of it, but prices will vary greatly on the types of good being shipped. We helped Bob secure the condo before he arrived to Thailand. We sent him photos and a video walk throughs of several apartments and this was his favorite. Hi Erik, thank you for reaching out to us. The burning season is from March -April. Last year, the season wasn't as bad as in the previous years. Many expats choose to live at the beach during that time. Bob went to Vietnam during the burning season last year. If you aren't able to leave Chiang Mai, it's ok to still be there you just learn to adapt by buying an air purifier and you can wear a filtered mask outside. The majority of restaurants and cafes have air purifiers inside their shops as well so there are plenty of places to go with clean air during that time. It's just not the season to exercise outdoors. Most gyms and fitness centers have air purifiers inside too. Audio is at least as important as video.
A bit of constructive criticism: 1) I'm sure you know this one but the audio is very poor, it needs a filter run over it. 2) The one that really bugs me is the way you use the words "amazing", "awesome".... the way they are delivered just sound so insincere as though you are not listening and just trying to get out the next question. As an interviewee I would be cheesed off.
Sound quality is bad. Too much traffic noise and the guy is too far from the mic.

Thailand is much better for retirees. Vietnam is becoming more like China every day.

I have heard expats are fleeing Vietnam right now. Didn't Vietnam used to have a 90 day tourist visa?
Sacramento is turning to hell because of homeless and crimes. If he did not move to Chiang Mai, he would go somewhere else.
Bad sound 👎

Is it safe right now in Taiwan?

It would unfair not to express my opinion that purchasing any visa service such as this is not necessary. Lots of scare tactics used and overstated benefits. 99.99% of people moving to Thailand can do everything themselves easily. There are plenty of stories on KZread and other media which guides the newbie through the first steps of living in Thailand. Having any skill in Thai language is also not necessary. You can easily transact business in English. And that is my condo he is living in.

Hey Ed! Thanks for your comment. Your condo is a special find in Chiang Mai. Some people prefer to have a hassle free approach to obtaining their visas and other tedious services. We, at Settle in Abroad, will gladly take care of all the nitty gritty surrounding relocating to Thailand.
Do they have podiatrists in Thailand on an equal level as the in America

Hi Martin, thank you for reaching out. Thailand has excellent healthcare and a wide variety of specialist doctors.
looks like bob shipped over a bunch of his possessions; can you give some info on the costs of doing that?

I shipped solid oak furniture: bookcases, desk. It would have cost about $2k, but covid tied the shipping up at the port, so I incurred storage fees on top of that.

Yeah- I noticed he brought or shipped his album collection. Part of my future decision between Hua Hin, Phuket and Jomtien will be based on which city I could ride a ten speed racing (road) bike in. I've never been on a motorbike & I doubt if I'd buy a car
