+WorldTravel Well I had :P I was speaking korean (native language) with my friend in the back seat, and the driver thought that he could fool us because I am a tourist and won't know much about the location. I saw him taking a lot of roundabout ways. It was really disappointing and outrageous that I didn't even pay him.

I never had this problem in Singapore but I can't think of a country that I have visited that this has not happened, Being ripped off by taxi drivers is normal, sadly. I took a taxi between airports in Turkey and I was driven all over Istanbul only to notice when I got to the domestic airport that I could have walked between the 2.

He was a very interesting man. When you tipped him it got me think about the door man who opened the door for you back at the hotel. A thousand years ago I stayed at the Queen Elizabeth hotel in Montreal, 1978 I think, the first time I ever paid a $100 for a room. What I remember most though was the door man in charge of the taxi line-up. He would raise his hand when someone wanted a taxi and the next in line would drive up to the door he opened the door for the guest and most of them were putting a $5 tip in his hand, I walked. LOL Just checked to see what inflation has done to the room cost. I could get a room there tomorrow for $219.

+Dale Calder lol, That guy would have been making some good coin. I paid $330 for a room in Toronto in 2008, Nothing special either and that was the cheapest in the area. Breakfast was $40, I ate at the little restaurant around the corner, $5 for the same thing....

+WorldTravel Series bucks and tax fee. Don't remember what I paid the last time I was in Montreal, which was back in the 90's, but it was during Jazz Festival and there wasn't a hotel in the city that would take a reservation for less than three nights so I ended up staying for a night longer than I had planned and I wasn't in the least interested in the Jazz Festival.

I found that the i40s were more comfortable than the Sonata taxicabs. I think it has to be because it has a European feel whereas the Sonata was pretty crap and basic, not to my standards.

Singaporeans speak "Singlish". But at least foreigners can understand 97% of what we say because Singlish sounds not much different from English. If you go to countries likeThailand, vietnam, cambodia, laos, myamnar, japan, korea, mongolia etc, they will speak their own native language.😃

This taxi driver talked too much to passenger. Some passengers may not like as passenger dont know you so well. The taxi driver must be careful when talking to people who he dont know well. Try not to talk about politics, races, nationalities, religions and sensitive stuffs, you may end up offending people.🤔
