I can relate :( Just finished the NPT in sections. Finished with a 4-day trip - so even smaller hikes mess with you when you get home. No matter how long the trip is I always miss it and get bummed after. As I was finishing the road walk to the train station I’m all “So what’s next?” (It’s the long trail.) So I watched your video AGAIN last night 😂 But man did I WAIL when I saw the register at the end of the trail. Wanted to turn around and do it again. And this trail literally broke me last year (first mentally - and the next section physically when I broke my wrist) But loved (mostly) every bit of it. Also - as a former horse girl - you guys are gonna LOVE THEM. (I have also been thinking about Taco!) Mine were like big dogs and would race me up the driveway when I got home from school. Good times 🤗 Horses are awesome. Thanks so much for the recap - love you guys so much. Can’t wait to meet you when I make a hair appt before my AT HIKE IN 2028. I want one or two locs from you to take with me for good luck. I’m a planner 😂 Have an awesome weekend!

Liz, I always love any video you do. I have a special request For you though……would you do a video on your house plants? Nothing in depth but show them, tell a little about how you care for them, etc. I am 77 years old and just recently started houseplants as a hobby for something I could do to fill some time. Suddenly I’ve found myself addicted to them, lol.

Horses are a big deal and $$$ and time. If your not a serious horse kinda person and love it, I suggest be happy with paying your local horse riding ranch to go on trail rides. Horses need to be your life. They are not like dogs. That’s my suggestion. Volunteer at your local horse ranch to take care of the horses, feed ,clean stalls, brush… anyway ,good video as always thank for sharing your thoughts about your hike. Congratulations on finishing it!

Right? When my kids were small their dad and I were ranchers and had a lot of cows and horses. I used to have a joke with them about the horses... I said Do you know what horses and cows eat? And they would say hay... And I would say nope... They eat money!😂

Good morning. It's great to see a new video. The horses will be fun for you, if you have trails to ride.

Just a tip for horseback riding=cowboy boots. Second tip for horseback riding=rent a horse. Horses are kinda like aviation, if you don`t own the stuff you can walk away from it at any point.

Liz, it's wonderful to hear from you! The trail seemingly has a way of leaving all with a sense of longing for more, and that includes those of us who follow your adventures. Your FaceTime with Evan was a treat. It's heartening to see that you all are doing well. Steve ❤

Always great to hear what your thinking and planning. I watched you finish your 4000 ft peaks. I finish the North East 115 in three days on Katahdin. I’m 62 yrs old and live in Saratoga NY. Not to many New Englanders will come over and hike the 46 ADK peaks. When I stand at that sign on Baxter to me that’s sacred ground, I know my heart will be full.

Thanks for sharing! I was going to do the PCT this year but with the record snows I decided to push it off to 2024. I would love to see you out on the trail if you make it next year. I follow your other KZread channel and just happen to stumble across this one and didn't even know you were thru hiker.❤️

I'm spending a day off in Durango, just finished yesterday. You nailed it with a return trip. All the logistics (town stops, water strategy, where to stop for the night, etc.) was all brainless this time. There is so much more time to enjoy the trail/beauty. I didn't feel like I got a good rep last year. I had to go back and get a good rep this year. The bottom of my feet feel like someone beat them with a hammer. I did Lake City to Durango in basically 4 days. I'm paying for it now😂😂. 🤘🕓

If you want to travel around for 14ers,, make luke get a truck camper. Best way to move around and still have decent homelike amenities. We've been doing a bunch of looping road trips and love it.

Liz, I can say your thru hike ended abruptly for me as well. I waited a bit to watch your final installment; didn't want it to end for me either. I had much vicarious enjoyment from here. I'll say it again. Thanks so much for sharing!! Evan is such a good bud. So beautiful how chance encounters can be so life-changing. And learning to ride horses...so cool! More cool life experiences from another chance encounter on the trail, this time with Joel and Taco. 🤠 🐎 Looking fwd to whatever comes next! Love ya Liz ❤

I like that wood stove. Can you cook on it? I hope that you have plenty of wood for it. One of these winters we will have another ice storm with the power out for weeks. That will cause people to lose their homes because the pipes freeze. When the power comes back, the split pipes will flood the house. In the 1973 Connecticut Ice Storm, we lost power for 10 days. It is an example of many families losing their homes because they didn't have heat nor did they know to drain their pipes. I think that Luke said you have a generator. Have a few cans of gas and an siphon tube to get gas out of the cars. My little sister is 68 and still has horses(since she was a teen). They are expensive money pits and require a lot of care. The future of the economy doesn't look too good. Another nice video. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick

Liz I am doing thru hike Appalachian Trail April 1st 2024. I hope to do the PCT thru hike in 2025. Get your husband and friends and lets do it together. Or at least hang with group until we get past the desert. Thoughts? The winds & spirits are calling all hikers :)

We’re you just missing being away hiking? or actually missing the Colorado Trail itself? Oddly enough That’s actually why I don’t necessarily like going away period….when I come back I always feel like it was all just a dream and I never went in the first place 🤷🏼‍♀️….btw Horses are expensive to keep…my brother had one and needed to board it since he didn’t have the property to keep one …which isn’t cheap…then he hardly was able to spend time with it because it was boarded quite a distance away…. Yeah unless you can keep it on your property and can take care of it there (for which there is another level of upkeep and Maintenance….daily feeding, cleaning , vet needs, shoeing etc.) just beware 😊

Aw, nice to hear an update from you. To fill your hunger, come on over a bit to the Adirondacks and hike the Northville-Lake Placid Trail (NTP) at only 138 miles. It’s a carbon copy of the 100 mile Wilderness (Maine.) It is stunning beauty as it traverses the Western Foothills of the 6.2 million acre Adirondack Park (largest in the Lower 48.) As a plus if going NOBO, get to end at the 2X Olympics Host, Lake Placid, nestled amongst the 46 “High Peaks.” - Nails (met you on trail in 100 mile wilderness in 2018)
