I do remember him, because of his transformation into a cyborg... wondering how he survived for more than half a minute with half body until he was operated on with technology that is hard to believe exists in this world to keep him alive XD

He was essentially a budget-Kimblee, since '03 Kimblee wasn't really the same character as Brotherhood's. Frank Archer pretty much filled the sociopathic military dog role.

It's strange that they simplified Kimblee's character from this cold, calculated sociopath realist, with a love of philosophical debate into just some soldier with little effect on the characters or the plot, yet they invented Frank Archer, who is essentially a proto-Kimblee.

If King Bradley himself, someone who has the philosopher's stone under Dante's orders, was the one who said they would make Archer take care of the militia (They would turn him into a weapon) They even gave the stone to Kimblee and these stones were put in Edward's alchemist's watch, stop misinforming and watch the series again.

Considering he was the only proper cyborg in the series that was a pretty lame death.

How is he half of a cyborg but his hair is still intact

While I'm fine with the overall idea of making him into a Metal Monster, I do think some redesigning could make it better. For starters the arm and leg should be practical, so they are not imbalanced with his organic half (That should be a no-brainer). I would try to also keep his mouth normal but still keep his left face Auto Mailed. And finally, the Machine Gun should be retractable on his back so it looks like he can swap it in and out when the situation calls for it.

It's a matter of perspective, really. I can totally see him being a lackluster character on his own, but from a more thematic point of view, I think he works pretty well. According to fma 2003, equivalent exchange does not exist, and Archer is a blatant example of that. He is meant to be Maes Hughes replacement, but instead of getting a character as likable and interesting as Hughes in return for his death... Well, we get Archer, a fool obsessed with war and weaponry that only serves to induce more chaos in an already chaotic world. I guess I simply feel that he was meant to be forgettable and unlikable from the start, since its only fitting given the implications of the show regarding equivalent exchange.

Imma be honest when he reappeared as an anime Terminator thing my brain kinda turned off because it just looks so ridiculous. *I know it's been literally 18 years since this anime came out but ur warned for spoilers if u havent binged it on Netflix yet. Watch Brotherhood afterwards though.* Wish Roy had the stamina left to melt him or something badass if they were gonna have Archer take his eye out. I liked that Hawkeye took him down but really wished we got the scenario where they both infiltrated Bradley's mansion together and could dual-battle Archer and Pride. Ah well. Roy killed Pride and all he got was a lousy eyepatch (actually he looks cool with it I just think it was lame that we never got an Archer v Roy scene)

I kinda got the point that Archer surviving the Philosopher ritual was a symbolism for those that come back wrong from the war and add even more fuel to the fire of war, but yeah it was really weird, he shows up 2 scenes and gets killed by two gunshots.

Even though I don't like the decision they made with this character, people exaggerate too much hating this character, many complain that he can move in a matter of days, when it was not established in 2003 that there was a defined time to be able to control a automail and the damage it causes, that was brought up much later in the manga. Archer did not remove half of his body, it was a part of his body, he could survive if he had medical attention, but his days were numbering, it was thanks to Edward that he survived by protecting him. His recovery and his ability to have automail could also be explained by the philosopher's stone that the government had. If King Bradley himself, someone who has the Philosopher's Stone under Dante, was the one who said that they would make Archer take charge of the militia (They would turn him into a weapon) They even gave the stone to Kimblee and these stones were put in Edward's alchemist's watch, stop misinforming and watch the series again. It doesn't seem crazy to me, even if it's fair to say that if more clues had been given it would be more credible.
