The play is a warning to P and when the king comes down to extend his hand it’s him attempting to become Allies with P to stop Geppeto. After P smacks his hand away he sobs because the King realizes there’s no other option but to fight.

For the people who don’t know the puppet king is actually trying to save you from Geppetto by showing you that he’s gonna take your hearth to revive his son, and that what actually is gonna happen at the end, at least one of the 3 endings. So in the end the king was actually a good guy, especially because the face of P is the same has his best friend when he was still alive that why he’s trying to save you. But unfortunately P didn’t know….

The fact that he was trying to warn you with the play as well as him extending his hand in warmth when he met you showed Romeo truly didn’t want to fight. When you swatted his hand away, his heart broke as he felt he lost his old friend to Geppetto. In his eyes, if you aren’t my friend, you’re my enemy…

It feels like there's some level of lore significance attached to this guy considering he: - shows P a play where a puppet's heart is taken out any put in a new body - expects P to reciprocate his handshake - was friends with someone named "Carlo" - never wanted to be King of Puppets The events listed above tie in neatly with what happens later Furthermore, the character Romeo appears in the original novel (tempts Pinocchio with fun and merriment, ultimately dies as a donkey)

The cutscene has a lot of visual significance to the story. The scene being enacted on the stage is meant to reveal Geppetto’s secret to Carlo (your puppet). You know that heart Geppetto gifted to you gives you a soul that all other puppets lack. However what you did not know was what the heart was for. The heart you were given and have been empowering with Ergo was a simple conduit for Geppetto’s next creation, the Nameless Puppet. Once it has reached its prime, Geppetto intends to take it. The puppet king illustrates this with the scene unfolding on the stage, which shows a puppet Geppetto removing the heart, then placing it into the nameless puppet. All of your efforts were to bring to life Geppetto’s creation. The puppet king shows you this then offers his hand as if to say “Geppetto plans to use you, leave him and join us, so we can stop him” But your character curtly refuses, slapping the hand away. By this act he admits his faith in Geppetto and his denial of the truth he learns at the very end of the game. My assumption is that Romeo was created by and discovered Geppetto’s plans to create the nameless puppet (which if you don’t know was intended to be a weapon for humans) and became the puppet king in order to stop him. Or as Romeo would put it “the whole city is teeming with monsters… of course we have to stop it” Edit: Carlo is the name of Geppetto’s son, one that died and then had his memories implanted into you, P. Apparently Romeo was a friend of Carlo, so this fight is even more interesting. Friends now rivals. This also means that Geppetto’s intends to take your heart so that Carlo becomes the next ultimate life form as the nameless puppet.

One more thing, in second phase when starts using the weaponized back-scratcher, he mentions that he needs to kill you to stop it all, as opposed to his first phase where he’s still trying to convince you to join his side.

Apparently, Romeo was human and a friend of Carlo. He was forcibly turned into a puppet (like that one ending) and given orders to start the Puppet Frenzy. His death therefore lines up with the book (Lampwick/Romeo is transformed into a lesser entity and dies of overwork/exhaustion). Note that NPCs make a distinction between P and Carlo. While P is never explicitly named at any point in game, the hotel residents recognize his purpose; Antonia Cerasani later signs off a letter with the epithet "to the young gentleman who resembles Carlo". Otherwise, P is always addressed as "Puppet of Geppetto". That at least explains the death quote ("Maybe this is what real freedom feels like...thanks, carlo... "), but it does not explain the purpose of the Puppet Frenzy

Finally beat this tough bastard today. I got an incredibly lucky moveset order from him during the second phase, he wasn’t as punishing as in previous attempts lol

God when the king is revealed inside the machines chest it gave me chills

This guy single-handedly made Lies of P (for me at least) look fun to play. Edit: Serious Question for the people who see (or saw) this comment, should I try playing Lies of P again? (I never finished it) Edit 2: I should provide an update on this. I decided to play the game again soon after the first edit. Although, I’ve been playing other games recently. I’ll get back to Lies of P whenever I’m done.

Undoubtably my favorite boss in the game. Everything from the lore to the gameplay is superb.

I think it would have been a neat dynamic to have the King of Puppets fight defensively for a duration of the first phase, only attacking when P attempts to attack, then having him go into a more offensive stance once you get him to 33% or 50% of health. It would be a neat way to show that he really doesn't want to fight you, but you, the player in particular, end up forcing him to.

Puppet Kings seems pretty chill; I would’ve dapped him up if he tried shaking my hand.

after nameless puppet and laxasia. Romeo is the third boss I like in this game. I like that in his first form. he's kinda funny and friendly. and then turns into terrifying real fast after pinocchio rejected his friendship. and then turn into a cool guys with badass scythe-sword after you defeated him once. such a many moods in one boss. if you like to fight with monster type boss or something bigger than you. you got him. but if you like to fight with humanoid enemy with badass melee weapon and flashy moves. you also got him. for lorewise. he almost as good as the final boss. the someone we know..... a man who became a king without his willingness. a man who tried to warns us. but unfortunately that he can't talk the normal language. so he have no choice but stop us with violence.... and then we killed him without know what he try to say or what he's felt.... without doubt. he's definitely one of the most tragic boss in this game. the only drawback that make him only third rank for me is, his moves isn't fancy enough. sure it's awesome, fast and powerful. but it's quite a simple swing. not flashy as much as laxasia or nameless puppet.

If they were to fix his moveset and design he would’ve been more impactful and fun. They could have given him a dodge or made him stagger less because as funny as it is to see him get staggered, he gets staggered way to often. In addition they could renovate his arena. Leave remnants of his suit (or prison) lying around the arena, making them destructible props and had patch’s of fire scattered on the floor (maybe lighting up the carpets). Besides that, the story points and animations in the fight were all magnificent. He deserved a bit more.

I dont know when things like handstand flips that lead into a stomp with 1000 tons of force or throwing your sickle and using rocket propelled legs to scrape against the ground in a burst of flame to catch it and sweep the players leg became "simple slashes" but alr

Like laxasia in phase two that most of her sword swing covered with electrical. or nameless puppet phase two that most of his sword attacks full of red aura. plus, laxasia can shoot lightning bolt from her sword. dash in high speed like the flash. so does nameless puppet. who could dash in high speed with dual sword, shoot sword beam or blood beam from his sword like a rifle. compared to Romeo. he can't do most of that. most of his attack are regular slash and that yoga kick. he can't unleashed any range attack. so he have to throw his weapon instead. the only move of him that could compete with those two are the flaming dash, and the flaming scythe Combo. that's why I put him on the 3nd rank.

I've watched this boss-apperance scene lots of time and still not feel bored.

The head rotation was such a subtle but perfect way to convey the emotion change.

I'm just gonna drop my experience with this here cuz it was really fun beating this boss and i don't want to forget it. so i didn't really play the game to get to fight the boss but my cousin did and i just decided to try out this boss when i saw him lose to him for a while (i finished almost all the souls games so i thought this is gonna be a piece of cake, my cousin did too just for clarification) but boi oh boi this guy made me sweat the first phase took me like 5 try's to beat and 10 to perfectly beat it with no dmg but the second phase i cant even begin to explain the amount of ptsd i got fighting this guy with his raiden from mgrr looking ahh fit and melenia move set and i couldn't even beat him in the end i got him to a hair hp before i lost and my cousin finally won against him on his turn, i loved every second of this fight 10/10 would recommend.

On my 2nd playthrough. This whole fight is sad. SPOILERS He was trying to warn us. And that offering of hand was probably his way of seeing if P remembered him. Then thinking we are just a tool of Geppito. I am curious though did he order the puppets to kill to slow Simon's goal or was it a hail mary way to get rid of the plague?

he tried to protect humans ordering the puppets killing the carcasses, but the puppets were bind to the covenant so they had no choice but to also keep killing humans due to the Zero Law implanted by Geppetto.

such a great fight. Very difficult but it's very fair and well balanced. Felt so good to learn his moves and finally beat him. My favorite boss from the game

This reminds me alot of the opera boss in Nier Automata

Once you know the full context behind who the Puppet King actually is and his relationship with the person our character is based on, this fight gets a lot more tragic. He wasn't trying to trick or deceive you. He was genuinely convinced that his dear friend had come back from the dead and was simply trying to save you from being Geppeto's slave...but there's no way our character/Pinocchio could've known that. Up till now almost every puppet we've met has tried to kill us (and those few who could communicate we couldn't understand them) so couple that with all the talk about the King up till now and it kinda makes sense why Geppeto's Puppet would reject any offers of friendship. As far as he's concerned, it's just a trick...except it's really not. Makes me stop and wonder how different things could've turned out if Pinocchio, for whatever reason, actually accepted the offer. Could've maybe worked together to rally the other puppets and strike back against the real enemy. Probably could've made things a lot easier.

Hey man I just wanted to ask what bitrate do you set for your videos while uploading, the standard youtube bitrate setting for 1080 is 10mbps for 1440 it's 24mbps and for 4k it's 45-50 mbps, do you go with the youtube standard or do you set it as the default recording's bitrate. I've setup my own channel and I've had no issues in the past uploading videos of any bitrate setting, but now for some reason the 1440p videos that I upload are no longer processing, and are completely stuck at 360p, it would really help me a lot if you could point me in the right direction, that is if you can, I mean I know how time consuming the whole playing and uploading and thinking about the next video can be, I've had some experience myself 😂 So it's totally up to you, btw great video and I've been following you since a long time, which is what motivated me to create a channel of mu own.

Hey I usually use what youtube recommends. For 1440p I use 24mbps and for 4k I use 53 mbps. Sometimes it takes a while for youtube to process but can't really help it. Congrats on making your channel. Good luck!
