LiDAR - Light Detection and Ranging - Automotive Tech Breakdown

In this video we take a look at the LiDAR patterns from two different production sensors utilizing the Oculus. One sensor is from the Continental Short Range Lidar SRL121 used by Mazda, Volvo, Toyota and others. It is a solid-state LiDAR device and the video shows what the inside of the sensor looks like and provides detail around its operation. The other is the VALEO SCALA which is a scanning device with a rotating reflector. This unit is used by Audi, Toyota and others. It is a very expensive and delicate device. This video takes an inside look at what the near infrared wavelength appears to be by using the oculus to uncover the light patterns. This video should provide a deeper understanding as to what is going on behind the scenes with these devices and how they are used to support active safety and driver assistance within modern automobiles.

    this is awesome work! thank you! Would the car also be able to communicate with this waveform, or is this a feature of the program that you use?

    With the sensor installed, proper termination allows for a properly balanced circuit. So yes, the vehicle would be able to communicate with it. I plan on assembling a circuit with this sensor and the camera with proper termination. Look for a video on that soon.

    Very interesting.... But isn't the first one "just" a stereoscopic IR camera with an illuminator??? Or is that also considered a LiDAR. I thought the light in LiDAR had to be laser. But Lidar sounds cooler than LADAR

    The component manufacturer calls it a LiDAR sensor so I’m going with that 😅
