Lid ideas for the GSI Glacier Cup/Pot
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Scott Tashiro has made a comment on Idea for Outfitting My Stanley Camp Set - Boil Test #1
"Hi Hiram. I was wondering if the Stanley Cook Set Lid would fit on the GSI Glacier Cup/Pot?"
In this video I show that the lid from the Stanley Cook Set does indeed fit on the GSI Glacier Cup, and quite well too. I also show some alternative lids that I use that are somewhat cheaper.
I thank Scott Tashiro for the question, hope this helps,
and I thank you for watching my videos,
Hiram

I’m planning to fabricate a “doser” for a commercial coffee grinder I’m adopting for home use. I need to make a metal lid for a stainless steel funnel I will be using, and this video on lid ideas probably saved me hours of unnecessary work and money I would have used making one from scratch. I can totally reuse a large can or cookie tin like you demonstrate. Thank you!
great video. this is by far the most comprehensive vid I have seen on the hunt for a lid for the gsi cup bravo!
After watching your video, I found a can of the 13.5 ounce Pirouette sticks at Target. The GSI style cups that I had just bought from WM are a little bigger than the one you showed. The Stanley pot lid fits, but very loosely. The Pepperidge Farms lid will not go over the WM GSI style cup. NOW, I'm forced to eat all those Chocolate Hazelnut sticks. The things we do in the name of research. Thanks for all your good ideas Hiram. The WM cup is 4" O.D. and the I.D is 3 3/4" measured with a tape measure

I got my GSI cup from REI and the Pirouette cookie tin lid won't fit on mine either.
Excellent job Hiram. You answered the person's question and gave some options. That is what KZread should be at its best. thank you for your effort and the background music was fun.

Positive comments are always welcome, and incentivize folks to share more and better information.
I have the GSI cup and the lid of a large can of tomatoes or something fits perfectly. (Cut off with a real safety can opener). Instead of drilling the lid and putting on a handle, I just use some aluminum/stainless steel plumbers tape. Cut a 2 inch long piece, about half inch wide, then pinch together the middle. Stick the 2 ends to the can lid. It folds over for packing but gives a place to pick the lid up by. If it was a tiny bit bigger it would fit the Swiss Volcano Ranger kit cup.
lowes sells 3 sizes of empty paint cans, the smallest onE under $2 and it fits perfect and tight, you can turn it upside down and it won't fall oFf, i placed a wooden drawer knob they have for 97 cents and it makes a great lid. for around $3
The powerful Hiram Cook has the answers again! Thank you!
Great info - thanks for sharing, and hello from Eddington, ME! I've got a Stanley Mountain Vacuum mug with a cook pot, which didn't come with a lid. I'm going to try some of these ideas, hopefully over the weekend. Stay warm!
I have been using my MSR Alpine Kettle lid on my GSI Cup. I have never thought to put 2 and 2 together and use my Stanley lid. That is awesome
Just discovered a plastic snap lid for my Ozark Trails cup (same size as the GSI Cup). It is a snap cap lid from 24 Ounce can of Delallo Plain Bread Crumbs. Great for storage and transporting items inside the cup, but wouldn't work for cooking. Love watching your videos. They are always top notch and well done. :)
Man I love the Internet. I'm trying to come up with a water-heating & serving vessel solution, and this is the final piece of the puzzle. And come on Hiram, you can admit the cookies are yours ;-)
this is awesome! i can use the lid on my stanley kit for the gsi , ill just nest the gsi with the stanley and use the lid on either as needed , thanks for showing this video!
That Pepperidge Farm lid is a great find!
i was watching one of hiram's gasification wood burning stove vids. i went out and bought a new 1qt paint can. had it sitting here while watching this vid. i don't have the GSI glacier, but i do have the Ozark Trail 18oz SS cup from wal-mart. the 1qt. paint can lid fits the Ozark Trail 18oz SS cup perfectly. however, better make a handle onto the lid or you'll have to use the edge of a pocket knife to ease the lid back off if pushed all the way down.
Good video, Thanks
Hi Hiram! Thank you for such a quick reply!! Yes! You answered my question! 3x over! LOL. I keep seeing the Stanley Adventure Camp Cook Set online and am trying to find it local. Have seen that my local T*^%#t store has them instock. Ill also look for the cookies while I'm there! Again thanks for the quick reply! Keep up the good work! Scott.
I like to not burn my lips when I drink coffee, so I got one of those silicone rings they sell for confining an egg when frying it and cut off the handle part then stretched it over the lip on my glacier cup. Part of that ring sort of curled up and traps the lid from the cut off can very well when in my day pack. I put it on only loosely when heating or it would likely shoot off when the pressure built up too high.
I very much appreciate the effort and knowledge you put into your videos. However, that cookie lid does not fit my GSI 18oz or 24oz cups. It also doesn't fit my Stanley cup or my Swiss Army cook set cup.
Esbit makes a cook set that comes with a lid. A Nalgene bottle fits in side just like the GSI cup. The Esbit cook set has a wind deflector that unfortunately can not be stored inside the Esbit cup if you put a bottle in it.The Esbit cook set sells for about $24. It holds 19.5 onuces. The Esbit cup is made of anodized aluminum and is very light. It also has folding handles just like the GSI cup. With the Esbit pocket stove or one of Esbits small light weight stoves this makes a nice set up.
You can paint your lids with high temp grill paint. That will help with the rust.
Nice vid thanks.
Cool, Thank you I just bought a GSI Glacier cup and want a Stanley cook set. I was wondering what to use for a lid for the GSI.
The scientist of mug lids great job.. Lol!pal!

A savings of 6.99+.tax! Holla
Must only work with the chocolate ones because I bought the same container with French vanilla and it won't fit. Not even close with the lip of the cup... Moving on to find something else.
Piroutte lid won't fit my cup from W*M... I'm going to try a silicone vacuum can lid I got from PetSmart this weekend...
Hey Hiram got some thing for you to try i have the Ozark tail Walmart cup and a 1qt paint can lid fits it awesome but i dont have a gsi cup and im told there the same size inside could you see for me if it dose then would not have to rob the Stanley pot lid LOL ,also the lid can be adjusted by rolling the lid on its side to close the gap a bit Thanks for your time sir Love you channel Atb Alan
1 qt paint can lid fits perfectly
How about just drilling a screw in the middle of the lid for a "handle"? Obviously it will get hot but I'm assuming most people realize you need a glove or bandana, etc. when dealing with fire. Things get hot lol. Depending on lid, perhaps you could even take out the screw easily for storage, nesting. Just thought of this now, will update.
Awesome

Thank you.
The lids are available separately now! Interesting that you seem to have an intermediate size cup. The Stanley lids don't fit my old cup but are good on my new one.

Do you know if this is still the case? I want to get a lid but I'm not sure where to look
i think heavy cover should make a lid for the gsi cup because it was so pupolar just like the one that they made for the military canteen cup.
if you go to the Stanley web site they sell replacement lids for the Stanley cook set for about 5 bucks. I think it's a pretty good deal. I bought a couple. The shipping take awhile since, I guess it comes from the other side of the galaxy. I bought a DD tarp they sent it to me from England in three days. These are coming from another state up the road but they sent it by way of the space shuttle. I hope to receive it before im eligible for social security. anyway still a good deal. I have two guyot 38 oz with a 25 oz cup from pathfinders fit on the bottom. I have the GSI cup on top. I use the 25 oz cu for food and the GSI cup to drink. works for me

Hahaha...I had the same experience with DD and my XL Tarp. Got to me in 2-3 days but things from 2 states away takes a week. Unbelievable...

Will you consider placing the lid in your will and making me the beneficiary? Just a thought!
I have a Tatonka mug and I have a Lixada wood gasifying stove which looks to be a Chinese copy of a stove called a Silverfire scout? This message is just not to say what equipment I have but the Lixada stove comes with a small dish which looks like it is a feeding dish for rats. I think it is so solid fuel tablets can be used, but I use it under the stove to catch falling embers. The point is, that dish is the same diameter as my Tatonka mug. Great if you want the water to boil faster, or you want heat to escape more slowly but terrible if you want to hold the mug upside down.
or you could pair the gsi and stanley together like i did
Thanks Hiram for another great video. Do you know if your cheap alternative lid suggestions will work with the poor man's GSI stainless cup? Yes, I am referring to Wal-Mart Ozark Trails cup. I think the Ozark Trails cup is just a bit smaller. I have already tried one safety can opener cut off lid from my Big Box O Cans and I got a No-Go as we used to say in my old Lance Missile unit.

It's not the"poor man's" it's the "smart man's"considering its the same thing for a fraction of the price.
What you have, is the Ozark Trail cup. I have no idea how you did that, but the Pirouette lid. DOES NOT, fit on that cup. Nor the actual GSI cup
go to your hardware store and get an empty quart paint can the lid from it will fit the gsi cup perfectly
Pirouette lid does NOT fit my GSI cup. It's a tiny bit too small. Anyone else experience this?

32 ounce ozarka Tumblr lid fits like it was made for it, for only $3.
I went to get a GUI cup n they were sold out in our sporting store. Ugh....now my water stainless steel top broke from my water bottle. 18 dollars down the drain. Nalgene here I come when I get some cash.
You are missed.
