Library Book Nook Build

My fourth book nook ever created. Funny thing is, I was just getting started with nooking and didn’t yet realize that multiple vendors would sell the same nooks. So, when I saw this one again and liked it, I didn’t think to check if I’d already purchased it. The ones I’d bought before had a little tag saying I’d bought them previously. Well…. I ended up with two identical nooks. Luckily for me, my sister wanted to craft the other nook. (Not the last time I made that mistake unfortunately… learned that sometimes vendors change the names and main photos of the nook to one they prefer instead of the box front. Reading is a skill, folks. It comes in handy at times like these!)
This one was full of firsts for me.
-First time I folded a strip of paper to create a book; I’d folded stickers around wood pieces and folded stickers together… this was much more time intensive
-First time I stuffed a leather top and bottom cushion for a straight-backed chair; I’d done a cloth accent pillow for a rocking chair… leather doesn’t fold easily.
-First time I glued the wallpaper to the inside of the book nook and the exterior design as well. I’ve improved a LOT since then.
-First time making a light fixture out of paper, beads, stripped wire, and a chain.
-First time I wasn’t able to successfully conceal the wiring to my satisfaction.
Along the way I clearly learned a lot. The main thing was to give myself grace. What I was making was done out of love and the sheer passion of creating something from what looked like a heap of scraps thrown together. (They weren’t. The pieces were clearly identified in the manual, I was provided a ruler to measure dimensions, etc.) The second big takeaway was to clearly read the package description before buying. In the description, it usually alludes to how labor-intensive and DIY a nook is vs putting a puzzle together. Not that one is better than the other; there are just times when I’m in the mood for an easy, relaxing build, and other times when I really want to dig in and build it from the bottom up, so to speak.
In the end, this turned out to be a beautiful nook, and it was created with love for a dear friend of mine. She recently graduated with her masters degree and has spent many an hour in a library studying. I’m so proud of her, her dedication, and her amazing accomplishment! By the way, she got her masters while working full time… teaching… high school… FRESHMEN! Yeah, she’s a rock star! 🌟
