My late friend was a paratrooper, D Day and The Rhine crossing. He took part in the Liberation of Denmark. After the war he trained in Copenhagen and became a PT/Maths teacher back in the UK. He loved Denmark with a passion. Miss the old boy very much, they do not make them like that any more.

My mum was in high school somewhere in the province....and in the communist underground. She was also one of the few english-speakers, if not the only one, in her group. So when the Brits arrived, she was to be the liason with the guys, who had come all the way from North Africa. At first they were not sure, what to make of her. She was 17 and looked positively angelic. So she showed them, her shooting skills - she was really, really good. Anyway: She became friends with some of the officers and they kept in touch for the rest of their lives. She had several kids, but for her the best moment of her life was seeing the Brits coming - and the Germans leaving.

I don’t know about that…. Despite the cultural decline, Denmark is still Way better today than it ever was during german occupation, despite the fact that the germans were relatively easy on the danes compared to other countries. My grandma who witnessed the liberation of Denmark first hand (and could very well be among the cheering crowd shown in this video) certaintly dont miss the germans. Just imagine not being able to get essential Everyday items or having to get a food stamp in order to buy food… Living under an authortarian regime is rarely fun .
