CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Fletcher (Jim Carrey) tries to make amends for letting down his son yet again.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
An attorney who tells the truth for 24 hours straight? This has got to be the movies! Fletcher Reede (Jim Carrey) is a lawyer obsessed with his career, and he's devoted his life to bending the truth to his advantage. This habit has broken up his marriage to Audrey (Maura Tierney) and isn't doing much good for his relationship with his young son Max (Justin Cooper). Fletcher repeatedly promised Max that he'll be there for Max's eighth birthday party, but when an important assignment comes up at work, Fletcher calls Audrey and makes an excuse so flimsy that even Max can see through it. When it comes time to blow out the candles on his cake, Max makes a wish: that his Dad could go just one day without telling a lie. Suddenly, Max finds himself physically incapable of saying anything that isn't true -- which, given the divorce settlement case he's just been handed, is going to make his next day in court very interesting indeed. While designed to show off a warmer and more likable side of Jim Carrey's personality, Liar Liar still revels in the broad physical comedy that made Carrey a star in Ace Ventura, Pet Detective -- which makes sense, since both were directed by Tom Shadyac. Both Carrey's fans and foes will get a chuckle out of Swoosie Kurtz's tongue-in-cheek insult to the film's star in the blooper reel that runs under the final credits.

someone didn't see the movie. The whole idea was that all he does is lie. He not only doesn't keep his promise, he isn't honest with his kid about why he didn't do so. (i.e. lying) Like him missing his kids party to bang his partner but saying he had to work.

Willfully not keeping promises is technically lying also. However, in the situation with this scene, Fletcher actually meant to pick up his kid, but circumstances changed to where he couldn't. But from the kid's point of view, he didn't know that.
Jim Carrey is essentially the only actor who could've pulled this off The amount of pure uncontrollable energy he radiates is so unique

@@jessicalillianweinberg4401 I'd have to ask him, but unfortunately, Fletcher moved away and I haven't heard from him or talked to him in a long time. Just kidding :). This was when Jim Carrey was such a great comedian that he dominated the movie industry from 1994 to 1998 with Ace Ventura, The Mask, Batman Forever, The Cable Guy, Liar Liar, and the Truman Show. He's made good movies after that, but that stretch of movies over that short of a span that I don't any comedic actor can beat!

@FinalBossWTMN

Yeah, and Dumb and Dumber was also one of the most popular by far. I didn't wanna comment on something so old but yours is fresh lol. The Cable guy didn't do nearly as well as most of his movies at the time, though it definitely has a following, and a lot of people suspect it is because people didn't' enjoy seeing a darker side of Jim. Plus, dark comedy isn't always easy. Anyways Batman Forever, uh...did pretty badly. A lot of people weren't happy with his performance in this film. I don't think he shoulda listed that. I'm not sure, but I don't think the Truman Show performed quite as well popularity/box office wise as his top ones, but I don't remember for sure on that one.

What about Robin Williams
@davidoverstreet2875
Жыл бұрын
@@CesarACastillo a close second place. The difference is Robin doesn't engage in the superimposed physical comedy aspect of it nearly as much as Jim Carrey. Jim is a total comedian. Jim plans things out. Everything is carefully choreographed. Words, facial expressions, and movements. Robin is a comedic genius, coming up with spontaneous ad-lib lines, that actually feed off the line before. Sometimes, once he gets going, it's hard for him to stop, and you're sitting there laughing in a pool of tears. But, the similarity between them is, that, the more they're doing their comedic bit and getting feedback from the audience, particularly a live audience, the more excited they get. They actually love the laugh feedback. It fuels them on. One of Jim's very first live stand-up performances, I believe, in Canada, in a bright multi-colored shirt, around 1989 I think, he was doing impressions of celebrities, and the more the crowd laughed, the more excited he got to do each impression. It was plainly obvious. Just loved it.
@CesarACastillo

@@davidoverstreet2875 to be honest what I love about Jim over Robin is that he doesn't hide the adult humor. Manly because he did kids movies Robin's humor reserved for adults isn't as obvious and you need to understand an adult's mind to see it. I know he's leagues behind Jim I just wanted to know your opinion.
