Everyone's attacking the guy but I think he gave very subtle cries for help throughout the podcast. 1) He's drinking again. 2) He doesn't get much sleep. 3) He said he *still* doesn't know who he is and what he likes. 4) That his demons are behind him and getting closer. 5) Not to mention he said he'd literally pay someone to spend time in his head and see how long they last. 6) Alsoooo, are we gonna skip over the part where he mentioned his defence/coping mechanism to stop him from getting scared of himself is to literally pretend to be someone else. Maybe because of their third, fourth and fifth albums. It had rock elements to them. But 4 of them don't use instruments when performing. Niall uses a guitar at times.

The saddest thing in this video is Liam believing that he is in a safe environment with friendly people when there are only sharks around him (including his own team). They are playing nice interviewers while leading to THE questions. And Liam is there, drinking and jumping on the boat with a smile thinking that he is embarking with friends. The results of all, Paul get views, put in product placements. And the funniest part is Paul telling him « I am smart ». And he is. He is smart enough to ask for whiskey and to not touch that glass.

He was put up as the frontman to start songs and was the one starting most songs until the rest improved. Niall and louis were almost never given parts. Then they saw that the fans were starting to get attracted by Harry and they started to give him the spotlit. Harry had sang so many solos in 1D songs that is insane. Zayn even though he has a great voice management by the third album (Midnight Memories) give him less solos. Why? Because at that point (according to management) Zayn was staring to not look fiscally "right" to attract 1D fans. Zayn had said in interviews how management told him to cut his beard because the fans didn't want to see that. Louis was barley singing anything. But he recovered with writing the majority of the songs alone or with Liam. Niall is the least problematic member of the band. Management fortunately didn't touch him that much. All I am saying is that MANAGEMENT had controlled those 5 boys like they were puppets.

The fact that Harry Styles ATE A BUG avoid ranking his ex-bandmates because he respects them too much, while Liam Payne openly reveals who his least favourite bandmate is. This breaks my heart man

I actually agree with this. I’m an older 1D fan. Not that old but old enough to have been around in the 2000’s boyband fame. 1D although manufactured like the 2000’s bands they also had a lot more freedom in a way to be who they were. Since they split they have all gone in different directions. Liam seems to have become very arrogant and this didn’t help. He recently talked about having a problem with alcohol and then goes onto something this and gets sloshed. Having previously had issues with the drink doesn’t equate to not drinking again but the way he spoke made it seem like maybe issues still exist. He very much spoke as though he was the sole reason 1D was created and he pumps his own tires up so much. A lot of the 1D members are not as famous anymore as they chose to stay off the socials a lot of the time and work on their craft. Harry was always going to be a star and they all couldn’t become what he is, he is just a different kettle of fish and success came to him in a different measure… a bit like JT.

I don’t get why so much hate to Liam. The only “inappropriate” thing he said was the Zayn bit. The rest was completely fine. He actually spoke good things of Louis. Did people talking shit about him even watched the whole thing? Because if not they have no context. He spoke about his experience in the band. How come people still believe that 1D was all flowers and candy, people fight, specially “brothers”. And they all went through awful experiences, overworked, stripped of their time, turned into money making machines, locked up in their hotels, etc. As he said, he’s been through psychologist and has mental health issues. Honestly, this interview is fascinating. A man who should have every reason to be the happiest bloke on the planet, but quite clearly a deeply unhappy and insecure person. Stories of how tough he is that are clearly made up, recollections of events that somehow always make him a sympathetic figure. The “if you don’t remove those hands, there’s a high likelihood you’ll never use them again” line could not have more obviously been something he thought to say as a story that should make him sound like a badass, but comes off as what it really is: a cheesy one line written by someone who hasn’t seen much, if any, real physical conflict in their entire life. Hope he figures this shit out. I’d bet my life he’s got a drinking problem.

How could he not be insecure? Since the time he was 16 he’s been judged and criticized for every little thing he’s ever said or done. What is baffling is why so many people think the kind of celebrity he has should automatically equate to happiness and security. As many fans as he has, he probably has double the critics. Imagine people just sh*tting on you constantly at the age when your still trying to figure out who you are. It must be confusing. But I agree, it definitely is a fascinating interview.

He is just answering questions. I guess it always happen to five of them when promoting or guesting on a show. They are tied up to one another and thats the reality. People keep on asking about each and every one of them.

Harry is arguably the most successful but he never would say it. He is biggest pop star right now who is selling world's biggest stadiums like Wembley or River Plate Stadium twice in few minutes, all three of his albums have debuted at No.1 on billboard and he is breaking records on charts, sales, streams, views daily with 70M monthly listeners with only 33 songs (No collabs, No remixes) but he always respect his band members and his fans with kindness or humble behaviour and never showed tantrum that he is the most successful that's why General Public loves him.

I haven't watched the full show and I know he is apparently badmouthing Zayn here... But there is so much that he is saying that just confirms what I felt all along, having followed One Direction on the X Factor, translating videos onto French (video diaries), and just observing their first interactions on camera 1. Liam was the center of 1D at the beginning, maybe not because of Sico's promise but more because of his previous exposure on the show. Facts: he has the longest audition video (along with Niall, but that's it), and he started most songs on the X Factor, and then in One Direction. Somehow a bit annoying how that order was repeated so many times. Update: Liam just explained why. Although they kept that order in the albums. 2. Louis was wild, and not super nice to him: just rewatch the video diaries, you'll see how Liam is trying to take it seriously, answer calmly, and Louis would sometimes just pitch in and make snarky remarks, making Liam look uncomfortable. I am glad they resolved it, that was the main reason why I could not fully appreciate Louis. 3. Most importantly, they were extremely young and not prepared or protected enough for what had happened to them. Alcohol seems to have been a huge part of 1D lifestyle, at least Liam's... And probably not well controlled.

Somehow Liam convinced himself that: - One Direction became a rock band; - One Direction was created for him; - He was the leading member; and - That he could or would beat up another member of the group or paralyse someone's arms.

Liam was always the "team player" in 1D. He was the one to help lead the interviews when everyone was drained and didn't wanna be there. He was always present for promo stuff when others had better things to do. Out of all the members- he appeared to be the most responsible and dependable. It is such a shame and disappointment to watch this interview and see how he's changed.

I was never a 1D fan but i am from 1D generation. I grew up in that era. The thing people need to understand is that he too is a person. Before anyone come up to me and says you are defending him. No i am not. I just think this interview is what all the 1D fans needed. He spoke out what he thought was true. And i think it actually gave the perspective of how his mental state is right now. Yes calling zayn as wayn was disrespectful. But whatever he said after that was true. He respected zayn's growth and respected the fact that despite being from a different background he achieved what they could not if they were in zayn's place. You all need to stop commenting shit. He is a human too and i think he gave a lot of hints how his mental state is not right. 30:26 "i have never tapped. I would rather go out. i have been trying to put myself to sleep from years" 37:13 "im very influenced by the people around me and the energies around me. The most thing i ever get said to me is, oh if i was you i would be dead by now. Imagine that and i am not."

He literally said he understood how Zayn got to that point where he did / said things that may not have been pleasant . Even in our personal lives What kind of friends even are we if we couldn't say that I may not totally agree with what my so and so friend did but I understood what lead upto it so you outsiders are in a no good place to judge him . She claimed that he verbally and physically assaulted her. Zayn denied and still denies the allegations, but he did plead no contest to four counts of harassment. EDIT: I want to be clear that I’m not saying he actually did it. I’m a fan of Zayn’s. On that note, Yolanda’s claims were never proven false. The blind item that claims that Yolanda wanted him deported because she hates him and wants him gone doesn’t serve as proof of anything. It was an anonymous submission and there’s no way to prove the validity of the statement. There’s no way to confirm who submitted it or if it’s even true. Again, I’m not trying to antagonize Zayn but what happened was he was accused by Yolanda and he pleaded no contest. Her claims have not been proven false.

You need to read behind the context and actually listening to what he's saying, he's making himself the center of 1D when he clearly wasn't. The center was the relationships between the five, which honestly, were as great as the media showed. They were kids, and now they have grown up, but Liam feels like he's the most immature and insecured of them all. He needs to move on and stop clinging to a past that he created in his head.

I watched the interview to see how he wrongfully spoke about zayn…but he didn’t. He said “I dislike him for many reasons, but for so many other I’ll always be on his side”. And that’s respectful, Zayn is not a saint, and he only said that maybe Logan had to understand where Zayn was coming from and not judge him for he did, cause he himself (how is clearly still struggling) can’t. People just want to find fights here and there, and I’m done. For what I got to see in this interview, is that this man right here, is tired, uninspired by life, music and love, and has so many other mental issues to deal, that should be his priority. I’m sad, cause I wish he was on a better head space, but that’s it.

This interview is actually not as bad as they have put it.

he literally was given the best opportunity and he’s shutting all over it. and u see the humbleness of harry and niall. and they r just genuine souls. come back down to earth.

After this interview, I think it’s very clear that Liam needs professional help to cope with his past and the trauma that he went through in the band. When One Direction announced that they were going on a break, I was devastated. After watching this, I think that it was needed. They needed to grow as individuals. I personally think that Liam is going in a downward spiral. As long as he keeps drinking excessively, he’s not going to get better. I know he was sober for a long time. Something had to have happened that he decided to start drinking again. I really think that’s sad. Instead of getting help, he’s masking his pain.

agreed as well when they went on hiatus I think professional therapy after would have been helpful in the transition. Maybe some of the guys did do therapy (actually Harry has he said) .

Liam desperately needs a management change. They watched him get wasted on a podcast when he has alcohol issues, normalized physical fights with his manager, and getting him drunk on set for a nude shoot he wasn't aware of. They don't respect him enough to know who he shouldn't associate with, and these are just a few signs that he's in a bad place. I hope he leaves and gets the help he needs because this is not how his "team" should be handling things.

I think parts of this might come off as a little cocky, but I really don’t think this interview is as problematic as y’all are making it. He’s just being honest and even when talking about why he doesn’t get along with Zayn, he was respectful.

Some people seem to forgot that he has the second most streams out of all of them and especially at the time he was talking about.

The way this comment section forgets Louis is heartbreaking. He is soo incredibly humble and loving towards his fans. He constantly shows gratitude to fans and has never boasted about his songs success this way. He might be smaller, but he is equally unproblematic. We need to recognize him too.

Everyone keeps talking about how full of himself Liam is, but I can't imagine anyone except maybe Harry, sitting between George and Logan, being too humble. Liam is giving himself credit where he thinks it's due, and anyone else would do the same. Just because he's talking about himself doesn't mean he's disrespectful. How is any of that about himself? If the dude is as successful as he thinks he is, then why drag the others in to his conversation at all?

Okay looking all of the clips in context, it's really not that bad. Coming from all of the commentary channels I thought the whole podcast is going to be a cringefest. But I actually feel empathy for him, he seems like he's not really in the right headspace and really need genuine support.

I'm struggling to understand why everyone on the internet is attacking him...I feel like most of the accusations are being taken completely out of context. He said he WAS the center of 1D when they first formed and, when you take a look at their x-factor performances and their first album, you can see him and Harry basically had most song parts. He didn't really bash any of his members...he actually gave Luis a lot of credit. The comments he made on Zayn-Jake situation were unnecessary, that's true. But him saying he "had many reasons to dislike Zayn and many reasons why he will always be on his side" is normal because I assume all the boys feel like that towards him. He's their brother and they've been through so much together, yet he hurt them in a way and it seems like they stopped communicating after. At least that's what it looks like from how they speak about each other in interviews. But of course I don't know what their relationship is. Anyhow, I just wanted to break the huge hate chain because the guy really doesn't deserve it. He's clearly under a lot of stress as it is and, even though it's not a good excuse, he's a guy under the influence of alcohol in a group of men (one of them being Logan Paul). Of course he's going to slip and not be careful about choosing his words.

I listened to this whole interview after seeing snippets on Tik Tok, and I totally get it, when you isolate those parts, it all seems so bad. But I think with context, the comments aren't as bad as first presented. And with the amount of good things and compliments he says are far more prominent. I like Liam, I feel like he's lost and grew up in a machine, not the real world and is finding himself.

He's not speaking openly about some public issue or social issue. He's talking negatively and even making a joke about his ex band member AND exposing private details about them especially considering when he no longer has a relationship with that guy, and the fact that that band member is a very private person and stays out of the spotlight, he shouldn't be talking about them. Meeting this Paul dude was the absolute worst decision Liam could've made. Hard to believe that I spent my teenage years admiring them. Jeez

They really let this man get wasted on camera.

As someone who has watched all 5 of them embarrassingly close for the last 12 years, this isn't shocking to me at all. Liam has always been this way since around 2012 when Harry sort of took the "lead" from him(not Harry's doing). I'm fairly sure this success wasn't something he was originally happy about sharing. I also feel like constantly having to fight for your own spotlight in a group whereas it shines naturally on certain others has taken a huge toll on him leaving him identity-less. He's been taught from a young age that individuality isn't as important as numbers/records, so of course he would think this way. I don't believe anything he said was truly malicious but definitely has the same tone as it always has. Just a hint of jealousy and insecurity. If anyone would have a right to act this way it'd be Louis in my opinion because of how under appreciated and almost ignored he was compared the everyone else in the group. But even he doesn't speak about the band or the other members this way. I love all of them but I hope he can heal from this and truly become his own person.

You said it best👍 I only started listening to them in 2015 after Zayn was already gone but even back then I could feel that vibe from Liam. He felt like he belonged in the spotlight the most and definitely resented Harry and maybe Zayn. He admits himself that he doesn‘t know who he is and he‘s clearly struggling but making backhanded compliments and stroking his own ego won‘t help him heal and find himself. He needs therapy and a new perspective on things.

I don't see what he said so wrong. He voiced where he was in life and what happened. There is nothing wrong with that. He did it in a respectful manner and he was unproblematic. Stop trying to stir the pot on a band that disbanded years ago. They aren't coming back and they never were going to. I love 1D just as much as any other fan but you need to be able to let them go. They can talk about it and how they were when they were younger and how they experienced it differently and not have to be dissing each other. To be fair, Liam really was the most experienced member during that audition process in X Factor, so it is definitely possible that Simon genuinely wanted to make a group around him and he might have told Liam about it later. Yeah it’s true that Harry became the most popular member of One Direction later but it’s not impossible to think Liam was the honorary member. Same... to everyone above. I think what's happening here- is these comments are from really young people watching this, and their interpretation is from where they are in their life. To people that have been around a little longer- this is just normal, life.

I’m just sad. Liam said something rude about Zayn and then says something respectful - totally negates it. And even the respectful thing brings up private things about Zayn’s life. He’s clearly blasted and it seems like he doesn’t have good people around him - a manager that fights him for example. And he speaks too highly of himself at times in a way that seems so strange. I’m just sad - who is this guy :(

Why was it never weird that Cheryl had a kid with Liam. He was a child when they met like how can you watch someone grow up then have those kinds of feelings towards them ?

I don't know why people were trolling him for this interview , he was literally dragged into a trap by those stupid brothers ,louis also confirmed that by defending liam . Liam is such a sweet creature , he never got what he deserved, also we directioners already knew how were they tortured in the band there is nothing new . But yes he spoke something rude about Zayn , every one can't be perfect all the time , as if those who commented stupid things about him , they as if we're all pure , people just love pointing out others weakness.He also said that when he was drunk , just for that we can't keep on hating him . For those who hate him they must see all the videos of his days in 1d how he loved every one and cared for everyone , especially Zayn . Now many of his fans are on his side but the time he was in trouble everyone was against him , I swear we don't deserve him.

"I think it outsold everyone in the band" i- does he not realize harry is selling out stadiums and zayns solo songs were on the radio nonstop?? nobody even remembers liams music??

You do know that he was talking about Strip That Down right ? At he time not much music was put out by the other boys and Liam released std and he smashed it obviously now Harry and Louis (mostly Harry) is releasing music currently and is soaring higher but Liam was talking just after hiatus not currently xx

I don't think Louis is appreciated enough in the comments. He and his good heart is not really recognized 'cause he may not be as big as Harry or Zayn or Niall, but he is really one of the best ones out there, and he is just as humble, or maybe even more. He might have a sassy mouth but never once did he talked shit about any one his bandmates or anyone else for that matter. He might have caused some issues back in the days, but his reasons were really valid. I just think he deserves so much appreciation and recognition because Louis really has a good heart, pure talent and just an amazing person in general. As for Liam, quite disappointing about some things that he said :((((

Louis is literally the most authentic member in that band. The one who has for me at least at most jumped from being a brand to being an authentic person in terms of lyrics music and him as a public figure.

The impaulsive crew is just straight up evil imo. I am no liam payne fan, but the kind of questions that they threw at him while KNOWING he’s somewhat intoxicated, they were literally baiting him to say weird shit like this for the views. It’s sad really.

Just finished the podcast and omg it’s so good!!!!
