    I am an openly gay US History teacher in a public school. The reason we do not get to touch on these important subjects is because of standardized testing. If the subject isn't on the exam then we do not have time to cover it. It is disgusting. Also social studies teachers have the most densely packed standards of all subject teachers. We are expected to cover so much history that we rarely get a change to take a closer look at things. I feel like that is by design especially in more conservative states.

    @@joshuajones4765 it’s sad because some bigots think it’s indoctrinating whereas it’s for children to know that if they are gay it’s okay and it’s okay accept people with different sexualities. if kids are too young to learn that people can have two moms or dads or it’s okay to love regardless of their gender. then you should not to be teaching them about christianity or any religion that you guys love to instill that fear into them. they also need to know how much the community had to fight for their rights. and that even now a days the community suffers

    It would be great if he could cover Oscar Wilde's trials and circumstances in general, because they have affected so much of queer history and culture. I'm sure I could find examples in modern media of someone owning a book by/or having a picture of him as offhand for being a member of even the *wider* LGBT+ community -- which sucks because now my family is onto me. lmao

    @david nichols You have neither fact, nor reason to support your ignorant assertive opining. It is in fact not a mental disorder. The fact that you don't like something as much as someone else does, or that someone is different than you, does not a mental disorder make. Humans are free to explore and use their anatomy in many ways as we always have.

  • @kyleaaron1971

    @kyleaaron1971

    5 жыл бұрын

    @david nichols The process of developing your opinions, or your opining, is demonstrably based on ignorance, as you indicate again with your reply to me. Being LGBTQ is not a mental disorder, that is fact. And yes, you do not get to decide it is one. So your original assertion it's a mental disorder is incorrect and an ignorant statement or opinion. Either you are ignorant, or a troll attempting to get me to debate in circles. I am growing tired of your nonsense. I will not do what others tell me to do without question, including those who irrationally claim they know what a creator wants, when that creator has not been proven to exist. That latter question is the first one we must answer. Presupposing a creator exists, what kind of creator would give someone a brain but expect that person not to use it to think and question? Slaves only do what they are told to do without reason or questions. Have fun(or not) living in the Dark Ages. The rest of us are moving forward.

  • @kyleaaron1971

    @kyleaaron1971

    5 жыл бұрын

    @david nichols It's not about what I personally would like derangement to be. You offer a diversion. You make no sense. You are hung up on whether it is proper to use opinion or opining, and choose to critique my writing style. Try debating by offering something of substance and reason instead of focusing on your preferred method of window dressing, and then you might have some credibility. By "normal" I suppose you mean socially acceptable. Being gay is socially acceptable in our society. You should give up trying to paint it as otherwise. You lose. Is your creator not claimed to be the most advanced thing in creation? Therefore, if it is presupposed that everything needs a creator, how could the most advanced thing come from nowhere? It has not been proven to exist, and it has not been proven that anyone has contact with it, nor can they speak or act for what has not been shown to exist! How could a perfect creator create an imperfect world? Use your brain in accordance with "The Good, not with Death", you say? That is mumbo-jumbo. It makes no sense.

    There’s actually a little more to the Haines story. He chose the man over the job, so he wasn’t fired outright. In 1933, Haines was arrested in a YMCA with a sailor he had picked up in Los Angeles' Pershing Square. Louis B. Mayer, the studio head at MGM, delivered an ultimatum to Haines: Choose between a sham marriage or his relationship with Shields. Haines chose Shields and they remained together for 47 years. Mayer subsequently fired Haines and terminated his contract.

  • 4 жыл бұрын

    Actor William Haines would not consent to a "Lavender Marriage", which L.B Mayer wanted him to... Of course he fired Haines from the studio, however Haines went on to become a wealthy interior designer, and told Mayer to kiss his ass...lol... Rich Hollywood still loved him, and Mayer could not control that.

    It’s always good to be reminded that acceptance isn’t a continuum. We have had it and lost it to varying degrees over the last century. What we have is under threat again

    Splendid presentation w. fine visuals, Alexander, although perhaps you might consider doing another to greater depth by the decade? Surely there is enough material for it and, our subject does deserve such deep treatment, I do believe. . : .

    Ah! Thank you! I‘m writing a story that takes place in the 1890‘s and has LGBT+ characters at the moment. It‘s kinda heard to do all that research, but enormously interesting too. Videos like these help a lot!

    I’m so happy you mentioned William Haines. Louis B Mayer demented Haines make a statement to the press that he was not homosexual and also told Haines he had to leave jimmy. Haines famously said “sure, I’ll leave Jimmy. If you leave your wife.” what fucking balls haha. So of course his contract with the studio was terminated. But he became an interior designer for the stars like director George Cukor and actresses Gloria Swanson and Joan Crawford. Joan, who was a close friend of Haines once said that he and Jimmy were “The happiest couple in Hollywood”

    So, imagine a famous Hollywood actor falling in love with an aspiring actor in the 50s. It's just sad that the love story ends in a sad ending; the aspiring actor married a woman and had children with her, and the famous Hollywood star's unnoticed love still lingers as he stays by the new actor's side for the rest of their lives as best friends... And nothing more. It's just so cruel; society must change. Sure, LGBTQ is accepted nowadays but homophobic bastards still exist, so you can't really say that LGBTQ people (like me, for instance) are fully accepted.

    great video! very educational. a bit late, but i recommend the short film "different from the others" from 1919, a german production written by a doctor who was strongly against the homophobic laws that were present at the time. i think i once read it was the first directly "pro-gay" movie

    You shouldn't present Willian Haines with that sad ending -- he stood up for himself and left acting, but pursued a very successful career after that.
