Lg g5 GPS issue always looking for satellite's
In the video I go over how to take apart your phone and show you where the connections are being lost to the satellite chip. Quick repair and my GPS now works like new. I can not take full credit for the repair, I originally found this repair on Reddit.com. This video is just me showing the world how I repaired my phone and what worked for me. You doing your own repairs is at your own risk. Also I invite and appreciate the trolls that scare everyone from attempting home repairs themselves it saves me headaches. I look at it this way if people are foolish enough to listen to the trolls then they probably should not do the repairs themselves . Hope this helps someone else with their annoying searching for satellite's message like I once had.

I can't believe it, it worked! It disturbed me for so long and I didn't find any solution online! And the tips to open the screen helped alot (i changed my broken screen in the same opportunity) many thanks friend!
Thx for the repair tips it is working soo far... A little story did a factory reset ( is been 1 year ) starting to have some software issue nothing related to GPS... After factory reset GPS signal was not working right.. Swap sim nothing. Got a new sim from the carrier it was working for a bit and after two days puff back again... Map will show poor location. Did calibration on the GOOGLE map nothing it will go from high to low location... WIFI works great map works great... Then I saw ur video and the other one you mention both help alot thx for taking your time on making this video and clear our fustrations on a Flag phone that is better than Samsung s7 CHEERS
It worked, and on top of that, it gave the phone better signal then when I got it new! Thanks so much.
You rock Sir!!!!! It works indoors now when it didn't even work outdoors before.

Can I just say that this actually really works. Its amazing. Was so frustrated by my crap GPS. Its really great. Thank you for posting.
Thanks for making and uploading this video. using my GPS in the car was frustrating as always losing GPS signal or very weak signal. Which meant the turn by turn navigation would not give out directions as no GPS fix. But after following your instructions I can tell it's much better. Acquires a lock within seconds indoors and holds it, where as this wasnt really possible before.
Dude you are a life saver! My wife will never get lost again!
Well, I was desperate so I decided to try this. IT WORKED!! Thanks for the fix!!
Been driving me mad for ages. GPS then totally lost! Just done this and all fixed and so easy to do. Thanks
This worked for me. Problem was GPS would find location after say 30 to 60 seconds. Then it would only stay connected for a short time and start searching again. This made it impossible to use for Google Maps. I'm now able to find location in less than 5 sec. and stays connected. Thank you Thomas! Great instructions.

Armando Jimenez you must remove those two screws first, because it holds up the back of the phone. feel free to ask if there's anything more. 😊
thanks a lot bud.. it really helped. keep up the good work.
Thank you for this video! it actually worked. I took a couple suggestions from the comments also (cleaning the connections, & putting a piece of business card under the board). Great video! Thanks again!

Hey Tom, great video. I was wondering if you could help me with a mod question. I fly drones using 5G wifi, however my signal crashes around the 70m mark, yet the drone I use is supposed to have around the 400m capability, So I was wondering if you could tell me where the ariel is in the G5 and how i could fit an r sma lead to it so i could add a directional beam ariel or even a yagi. Or better still is there some sort of wifi antenna that i could connect wirelessly to without having to strip down my lg g5? cheers
It worked for me! a bit tricky getting the screen off and the little gold pins are very soft so be careful pushing them up
I'm not having GPS issues, just signal issues and dropping calls. Does this GPS antenna have anything to do with that or is it the other antenna that's located in the removable cheek/charge port area of the phone.
It worked for me. Thanks a lot.

Je confime ca fonctionne vraiment mais en ajoutant un plastique plus mince qu'une carte de credit en dessous sans toucher au pines..! I confirm, it's working great. I've put a plastic slightly slimmer than credit card under the pins. Thank you so much, i start to love my G5 again..!
Damn thanks for these video my LG G5 isnt getting no gps signal ill follow your instructions
Les sigue funcionando bien despues de un tiempo con esta solucion?o volvieron a tener problemas?es permanente esto?
thank you from Guatemala regards
I have the same problem. However, I have noted that my problems start when the phone disconnects from all GLONASS satellites. It remains connected to GPS satellites, but these are not enough to enable a reliable connection. If I restart the phone - all satellite connection return, and navigation works again. For no apparent , the phones loses connectivity to the Russian GLONASS satellites ( I don't touch anything ), and simply restarting the phone brings them back. This leads me to suspect a software issue?? Any ideas ? Thanks!
Thanks Thomas! Cool T-Shirt btw
Thank you! it works!
thank you so so so so so so soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo MUCH !!!!!!!!!!! i jsut fixed my phone with that
It work ! Thank you !
There are İncrement & decrement button flat cable pins. No GPS pin. GPS antenna pin, at the near of audio jack.
Thanks dude. Fixed my G5 GPS in 5 minutes. Now tell me how to fix the screen ghosting and speakerphone mic! Ha. Love this phone but disappointed with the issues. Thanks again.

ChavezOG no problem, I hear you on that screen ghosting. Really easy to open back up and replace the screen.
Just pulling the pins up did not work for me. What I ended up doing was taking my small flathead screwdriver and scraping the connector pads slightly and taking the top coat off of them. Put the sucker back together and now I get a GPS lock in 3 seconds! Would not advice scraping the pads unless you know what your doing. It's VERY easy to damage the pads and you will never be able to get a connection again.

Make sure it is just not your phone overheating. I took the plastic protective case off of my phone and the GPS works great now
You may clean the contacts with alcohol as well. Thanks a lot for the help
I found that the reason my GPS was failing was that the protective plastic case was causing the phone to overheat. When I took the case off, my GPS returned to normal. This was over a week ago and it still works good. It may be that for some, the prongs are the problem, but cooling down my phone worked for me. I am wondering if the phone overheating is warping part of the phone away from the connectors, and bending those prongs up we may be curing the symptom. Plus, by neglecting the overheating, we may be frying our phones over time. Now to find a protective case that works as a heat sink.
Save me a lot of money, thanks!
The place where you raised is linked to volume control. There is a very detailed thread that says this "solution" is barking at the wrong tree. It may have worked because the phone is opened and closed. It may also because the board is slightly moved. Many G5 owners had reported the GPS issue came back after a while. This is the thread that explains it: forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/how-to/gps-issues-demystified-t3707934

Status of the problem: I fixed my phone 2 months ago according to this video and today it started with the same problem. I don't know if it has anything to do with the problem but yesterday my phone worked all day long connected to a bluetooth speaker. Can the bluetooh interferes in the GPS? Where are the antennas? I'll open it and try the procedure of the video once again.
@thomassegiel1976

Patricia Russo the antenna is one of those three pins that I show you in the video. Two are for the volume buttons .Unless you have a Jewelers microscope it's hard to tell which one which. Cleaning them with a little bit of rubbing alcohol helps as well.
just be frindly with screen !!! its accurate !!! and YEEEEEESS I fixed it thanks 😉

I followed your steps did everything in the video, yet my gps cannot find location :-(
Could a slightly damaged glass compromise the "plectrum technique"? Update: No, it worked, for now it seems to have worked perfectly
i did this and it helped a bit, but my gps still cuts out in maps quite often. Do i have to bend the prongs more? Otherwise, thanks for this video.

Would a refurbished phone fix this? I bought a refurbed phone three days ago online and I hope LG fixed this issue.
worked a treat but had to get 4g and call settings reset by network provider
those 3 pins for volume. gps antenna is on lcd side of the phone and it connect to motherboard and motherboard to back cover ground sticker(right side of 3,5mm jack). search xda for the real solution.
Those pins are for the Volume buttons no the gos
thanksssssss
Crap I moved one of those things and one fell off 😞
Thanks! Worked perfectly. @LG didn't give a damn about the problem. I did everything I read on the internet before open the phone and nothing had worked. One question: do I have to do the procedure once in a while, or once it's done, it works forever?

Try not to drop or hit your phone or put pressure on it too much - these things will bend the case inward, which pushes the pins back down, which makes the problem happen again. If you can, get a good case for it. By the way, I just want to say: LG is a horrible company for letting this go. Same thing with the LG G4 boot loop problem, they just ignore it, makes no sense
how can i fnd somebody to do this for me in krakow
merci
Thanks
DO NOT FORGET TO REMOVE SD/SIM CARD TRAY! Almost broke my phone from prying so hard, when I pull it out only pieces of the tray came out.
i just did it on my lg g5 and it didnt work i think my GPS part need to be replaced because its not working at all...
i would say be careful with the battery, mine has been draining quickly recently, the problem looks to be a bad connection to the phone, i noticed a crack in the tiny connector that slots into the battery

Mines started back 😞
Guys is it really a hardware issue though? I reset my G5 to factory settings and updated to Nougat when it rolled out on my network just last week. The GPS works all of the sudden. So for me it seemed a software glitch?
@thomassegiel1976

SDav21 I tried a factory reset and it did not work for me ,this did. if you set it to use GPS only no Wi-Fi and no network and you're not getting a GPS, this fixes that.

Thomas Segiel Okay. Mine was set to high accuracy to use GPS and networks and it refused to catch a lock on the GPS. Somehow my software update fixed it or it just resolved itself when changing batteries.

Thomas Segiel One question, how is the screen on your G5, Mine all of the sudden has an image retention issue. If I am on any screen that is still for even just half a minute, that screen leaves its "ghost" image behind everything else. It eventually disappears again after images move on the screen but should I be still on a screen, that image becomes sort of "burned in" there. Also if I look at a black screen, there is a cluster of pixels that remain white with some various colours showing. Don't know why it is doing this since I have only had it for 7 months. My G2 and G3 didn't do such things.
@rachaelp8153

I've sent one back so far with the GPS fault and image retention, did a factory reset with no fix. O2 ended up sending me another Brand New phone. I'm about 4 months into this one and the image retention issue is getting worse and worse, didn't occur at all in first 2 months. Phone starting to experience GPS issues again (First LG G5 phone started with the location being 20-30m from actual location and ended up stopping working entirely). I thoughtthis could have been and issues with the modular design and action of sliding the battery in/out hitting something inside so I haven't touched this one. Still getting the issues. This one will be going back if problems persist. I loved my LG G2 and if it wasn't for the amazing camera in this phone I would switch to a different phone. ps my friend has had a G5 for about 6 months now and is starting to get GPS problems
@SDav21
7 жыл бұрын
Rachael Pinder Yes I would also switch if it wasn't for the amazing camera. These faults seem to be common then. I just wish LG would help a bit more.
There is another method I saw elsewhere that does not involve tweaking the pins. Loosen the adjacent screw that holds the board and insert a sliver of plastic under the outer edge of the board and tighten the screw. This raises the board slightly and that was enough to fix mine. I used a clipping from a medicine bubble/press out pack and that did the trick. This video is great at showing the way you can confidently separate the screen from the case. The GPS had been acting like it was drunk, running off network, and had me 'travelling' on adjacent roads and telling me to turn long after junctions had been passed. Thanks for the video.

Merci ! A présent mon GPS de mon LG-G5 fonctionne :: Thanks !!!!
This explains why until I pinch my phone in the top right hand corner, it will not track in pokemon and the dam gps goes off.
I'm my 4th G5 because of this. Never buying another LG again. I've never returned a phone for a defect before. I've screwed up phones on my own but never had a problem that was not self imposed... until now. I don't know if LG is better or worse in customer service than Samsung or anyone because I've never called a manufacturer over a problem before, but I can tell you this, they are not good at the customer service thing. I even offered them $100 for a G4 (the G6 is out now) and they wouldn't do it. Amazingly awful experience with LG. Never again. Soooooo frustrating.
This puts me off from buying this phone :o( Phone reviewers on the web should check GPS performance always! What's the use of having a pretty phone with a good camera, when gps doesn't work?

Tried it and now my phone wont turn on. I didnt break the screen either. Makes no sense!
Those pins are not the ones of the GPS antenna, they are the ones of the volume control ! It works only because dismounting the rear cover reset all the contacts. The GPS contact are on the left side, see the real tutorial here: fr.ifixit.com/Answers/View/394237/GPS+Not+working+well+at+all
