This video is just one that I wanted to post to show you some things that do annoy me, particularly about the G4, when specifically in game mode. I hope you find this somewhat educational and helpful.
I have owned both tvs for a few months now and have spent a good amount of time with them, and after a while, you start to notice things that you get annoyed by. especially when you spend the money you spend on them.
Thank you, and I hope to see your comments.
see you on the next one.

Nice! I've had mine for a few months now, and can confirm that the game mode looks SO much better than what you see here with the proper settings applied. These comparisons are sometimes helpful, but in this case it's not accurate given how washed out the S90D looks here.

13:27 Why do you have "Reduce Blue Light" enabled on the G4 in a comparison video like this?? Doesn't that cause the image to look warmer / more yellow? The comparison would be much more useful and fair if that was disabled, at least for the colors.

You should compare the infuriatingly overhyped Bravia 9 against the G4 just to demonstrate how flat it looks in comparison xD G4 already dominated the first Shootout, expect to win it at Value Electronics Shootout as well as HDTV Test Shootout later this year. 👑 No place for MiniLED on my Lowboard ! 🚫⛔ Regards, Manuel

Also. Just a quick note about the last comparison. Dynamic Tone Mapping was off on the LG. However, Active Tone Mapping (The Samsung Equivalent) was on. Maybe turn that off on the Samsung too and compare. There are two considerations with gaming picture experience. 1. Do you want this is look as close to reference as possible and accurate to creators intent? 2. Do you want the brightest most punchy image, regardless of accuracy? Both TVs do one of these better than the other. It's all about your preference.

Awesome video, as always. I, too, hate the S95D matt screen. However, for gaming, it has the best picture I have ever seen. I suggest you give it a shot. (But you need to calibrate it to bt2020) even better than my current lg G4. I can share my settings with you in case you get your hands on one.

@@enzopied3015 It is not the same because it's not just sharpness processing. It is masking elements in the image and adjusting brightness around them and edges dynamically. I went through this last year with the S95C trying to make it look the same. You can't. I'm not saying the Samsung isn't great. But on this aspect it cannot replicate what the G4 does. Generally it also lacks the granular picture controls and accuracy in game mode. If you want authentic, G4 is better. If you want bright image in colour and brightness regardless of accuracy, then Samsung is better.

18:20 Samsung uses MaxDML unlike LG and Sony that use MaxCLL. Samsung usually tries to avoid white clipping, so the details near white are easier to see, so bright-greys are the best on Samsung, but this also creates few downsides: the overall brightness of the scene will be lower, because this way will try to preserve details near white. And second downside is that it will lose details near black and this creates black crush. Sony usually have raised blacks with the best shadow detail but this also creates white clipping/highlights crush, so details near white are lost so the overall picture looks more washed out, less "contrasty". LG is like Sony, but also tries to be like Samsung to a certain degree so LG is the middle ground. LG won't be like Samsung, LG won't preserve details near white like Samsung. I think MaxDML is also used by Philips, with good details near white but also black crush.

Hey great video as usual. I think whenever you compare WOLED to the QDOLED, color volume is always going to be a win for QDOLED just like pure white is going to be the strength of WOLED. Dynamic tone mapping is not the issue it's more so panel technology limitations. Even if LG unlocked the peak brightness and other settings in game mode that doesn't mean you would get more color volume, it may just wash the picture out even more. I think that MLA gets you close enough to QDOLED and the more that they refine it will remain competitive to QDOLED. Comparing TVs are cool, but most people don't buy TVs to compare and if there not side by side then your eyes are going to adjust to whatever picture you're watching. What's important is understanding both panel technology strengths and limitations and adjusting your expectations and see if it fits your use case. As always, I appreciate your content and your consumer like approach.

You cannot have dark room if the TV is turned on. The TV brightens up the room, then the light created by the TV goes to the walls/stuff in the room and then reflected back to the TV. My LG G3 becomes an IPS because I have a white wall next to the G3, it lights up the whole room, even if I don't have any other light source in the room. So there's not such thing as a dark room when you have a 77 inch light bulb in the room.

Samsung S90D and S95D DO NOT track PQ EOTF properly. They are both over tracking and so the picture is too bright overall. This was the same last year. Vincent from HDTV Test has measured this in his video. And also Rtings. ''The Samsung S90D/S90DD has excellent HDR brightness in Game Mode. It slightly over-brightens the image, which makes it brighter and more vibrant overall, but it isn't as accurate.'' You can correct this in the settings mostly. This means though, that overall picture brightness difference is not as dramatic as shown in this video once corrected.

And most importantly, if you game, there are much better controls for adjusting the image. This matters a lot! Many games ship with poor implementation of HDR and other issues. You can fix a lot of this stuff. The Samsung has no way to adjust black levels without making the whole image darker. The LG does.
