Thank you for this video. I have been debating these exact 2 tv's for my game room in 83inchs.... Was going to buy from Costco to. get the extra 3 years warranty included but delayed and now the price was bumped up another $500 on the C3. I guess you snooze you lose. Guess I thought the price would go down on the C3 since the C4 should be out soon.

i had a choice between c3 77 vs g3 77 and i chose the former for two reasons, i plan to use the tv stand and the $900 difference in cost. ill use the $900 to get an oled for the gym room.

I’m curious as to why my C3 has the HDMI ports arranged differently. My only logical answer is because it’s an 83”? Did they change production halfway through 2023 and I got a more refined version? Curious. They are 2 and 2. Not all lined up like these TVs.

I have both models at 55" in the UK. The Sony, as with the C3, is surprisingly unforgiving of low bitrate HD broadcasts, which the BBC provides in abundance. I was expecting better AI upscaling from the A80L, but it's not noticeably there. As RTINGS say, don't expect either TV to make 480p look like HD. The C3, given that it's approx 2/3rds the price of A80L is a fantastic TV. It's a little darker than the A80L, so may not be suitable for a room with large amounts of sunlight during the day. The Sony has more HDR options, and maybe a few more options to fiddle about with the image, but I can't help feeling that you're paying a huge amount extra for the Sony name. The real clincher for me on the C3 is the full availability of screen ratio controls on USB movie playback, so you can stretch a widescreen film to full screen even if the film isn't 16:9 enhanced. Not sure from memory if the A80L does this, but as the C3 is my main TV, I don't really care. Sound on both TVs is fantastic, and I certainly don't need a soundbar on either of them. My only bugbear with the C3 is sometimes having to alter image settings between live soccer and snooker because the sceen will either be too light or dark.

A Soundbar is miles better than a tv speaker, and yes a sound system is much better than a Soundbar. But not everyone is an audiophile. Telling people that a Soundbar is a waste of money because there is something better out there, is like telling someone that buying an LG C3 is a waste of time because the LG G4 exists.

Need a c3 and c4 comparison.

Having just bought a C3 it's good to know that i made a good choice. Since i don't play games or watch live TV the C3 does all i can ask. As for the banding issue, i think you would need both side by side to notice any difference, i don't spend all day looking at colour bars!

Literally all of the "disadvantages" of the Sony (except the two HDMI 2.1 ports, which are sufficient for probably 99% of buyers) are directly attributable to it having much better picture processing and quality.

Just saying....but 815 vs 809 peak on a 10% window is not even perceivable.... You're talking about 6 whole nits, on the upper end of the luminance range. What gamers always complain about on LG, is the lack of peak brightness in SDR game mode. That's where the emphasis needs to be on.... Not a few nits lost in peak specular HDR brightness.... Especially when it's only a 6 nits difference. In the past especially, is when this should of been brought up...bc it was a issue on LG for awhile. I noticed it being a non issue when the C2 came out, as game mode looks virtually just as vibrant, saturated, and as bright as non game modes. Where I would notice a dip in game mode, on the CX/C1s. It was brought up last year a lot with the MLA panels due to color boosting being absent from game mode. This year, they've fixed that issue, and game mode in the MLA equipped LG OLEDs performance near identical in game mode, as they do outside of game mode, from a overall luminance perspective, and from a color luminance perspective.

First, they took the A from ratings, and now they took the M in Samsung. It has begun! They are taking over movie reviews!

@@christianj606 depends on the features you're looking for. If I was buying a TV for gaming then I would be C3 all the way. For shows (especially what I watch) I lean towards the A80L. The sound on the A80L is significantly better. I've seen the two side by side, and quite frankly they are both fantastic TVs. For movies and TV shows I think the A80L is the winner. For gaming the C3 is the obvious choice. In the end, you can't go wrong with either one.

I’m sorry but the Sony is better when it comes to streaming movies and TV shows which everything you watch is streaming. Sony just has a better processor and I choose processing over lighting. And this is coming from someone who has the LG C3 right now and Sony. Lg C3 over hyped the sony a80l is better.

We bought and tested these models when they were first released. However, we understand prices are starting to drop as the new models come out, and not everyone buys the most recently models. So we're hoping these videos still help users while we buy and test the 2024 models!

I love how this review is so biased to fail to mention the vastly superior A80L image processing. I love LG and I think the C3 is an amazing TV no doubt, but I feel it intentionally avoids to mention how artificial it looks compared to the A80L. Bravia XR processor does make more difference than anything mentioned here.

My LG CX is much better than my A80L and my CX have 4 2.1 HDMI ports. A80L is very dark, LG Much better image processing. C3 all the Way!

That's an absolute lie. The A80L is significantly brighter in sdr, and has far superior image processing

The sad part is that the real content that people are watching the TVs perform significantly different than just on the test patterns and only SDR and no HDR Testing patterns that rtings does. So 90% of this doesn’t apply to the TVs actual performance for content you watch and it’s super controversial and it’s unfortunately not a clear example for the TVs at all. Hopefully the way things are done are improved in the future to give a more accurate representation of the TVs.

if you watch mostly compressed sdr content, you should get a cheap LED tv, not OLED. this comparison is spot on for what people should care about OLED tvs.

@@99tophunter I think maybe you misunderstood. Unless u are agreeing? That’s exactly apart of my point. High resolution video content and HDR 4K content is the focus of what I was speaking too as well. Anyone who is needing true hdr performance and information around that with content is not getting the most accurate representation of the TVs and they are missing what actually happens in real scene dependent content with how the tv performs HDR, specular highlights and top level performance.

@@lvproductionsinc9748 HDR does not positively effect PQ...and never will unless they start mastering movies/tv shows/ and programming games to actually use it. It won't happen. HDR is a scam, and should always be turned off and SDR properly calibrated.

I agree. Sony releases tvs late in the year and they use lg oled panels. There is a strong chance this is using the C2 panel so it's performance in terms of brightness and such would be be more competitive to that model. Lol A80M will probably will have similar brightness stats to the C3 but it will be compared to the C4. The cycle continues.

@@seryun432 a lot of the tv guys liked the A80L over the C3 because of XR clear. RTINGS is kind of in the minority this year on their A80L thoughts. Most of the time price is close between the 2 too. I have an A80K and A95L personally but the C Series is a solid option too. I think the G4 is gonna be the flagship this year. Sony is a giant mystery this year.

WOLED is dead. QD and MLA are going to dominate OLED (they already are) and mini LED contrast is already good enough to satisfy just about anyone while sacrificing nothing in brightness and color. @@paradiseb5950 gonna have to disagree on that one. It comes down to brightness and vibrance. WOLED just doesn’t have it. Doesn’t have the pop, doesn’t have the colors, doesn’t have the bright perfect whites. That’s what most people want. And when you can get an 800+ zone 65” mini LED with 150k/1 contrast, perfect blacks just seem….. unnecessary. It wasn’t so long ago that 8000/1 was described as “deep, inky blacks.” We’re so far beyond that even with FALD now that I just don’t think it matters.

Only Micro Led can compete with OLED in all aspects, but only the super rich can afford a micro Led as it's ten times more expensive. Mini led is worse than OLED, so for now there is no competition to WOLED. QDOLED is still new tech, and the fact that a Samsung S95C is cheaper than LG C3 shows that people are not giving it enough importance.

@@RK99 it depends what you consider “better.” If you have a bright room and/or prioritize brightness and vivid colors, then mini LED would be “better.” Most people don’t care about infinite contrast when you’re comparing it to TVs that are 150k:1. When you were comparing it to TVs that were 5k:1 or even 40k:1 - yes, absolutely. But mini LEDs are so good at this point that it really doesn’t matter IMO.

​@@ColinBenjamin current mini LEDs cannot process all their zones fast enough and have lagging zones. This year's Sony's solve that, but they are going to be 5000 dollar tv's for a 65 inch.

I think WOLED are like aging rapidly.

Both these tv’s are overpriced and very dull. They don’t look good in that bright warehouse they are filming in. There are better tv’s to get especially for the price

@@Geo_Okami 2023 Samsung S90c destroys both of these overpriced dull sets. Returned a A80l and went with a 77" S90c that I picked up for $1899.00

@@cw824 As someone who works with these displays day after day, the S90C has gotten progressively dimmer over the year. To the point where it is dimmer than the competition. Good luck with your Samsung
