Lexus RZ450e: Yet another contender in the luxury EV class
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The Lexus RZ ins't the firm's first electric car: that doubtful honour went to the UX300e of a few years ago, which was built on a platform originally designed as a petrol-electric hybrid, and which was, to be honest, a rather forgettable car. The RZ is, however, the first Lexus to be designed and built from the ground up as an electric car. It's built on the same platform as Toyota's BZ4X EV, but it slightly bigger and slightly posher, pitting it against rivals such as the Audi Q8 E-Tron, Tesla Model Y and, well, pretty much any other luxury electric SUV you can think of.
It uses the same 71.4kWh lithium ion battery pack as the BZ4X, 64kWh of which is usable capacity, and it powers motors that drive all four wheels, giving an official WLTP range of between 251 and 271 miles, depending on the spec of the car. Prices start at around £64,000 and rise to around £74,000.
In this CarGurus UK review, electric car expert Vicky Parrott gets to grips with the new Lexus, giving you the lowdown on its styling, practicality, technology, driving dynamics, charging and more.

Terrific review, thank you 🙂
Great video
Fantastic video Vicky - too complex with all the Beeps and Boops - think it drove you crazy!!
The bongs montage was hilarious😅
Excellent review, Vicky. You have a good presentation style, The Lexus has some similarities to the Subaru Solterra (and its sister the Toyota BZ whatever.) I suppose it is a more sophisticated cousin. With the price difference, I go for the Solterra ( which I did). Watched your video on that one too.
All those bings and bongs sound like an 8-bit video game soundtrack! 🤣
With that range and boot space, I would say if the model reviewed were priced in the 48000 -55000 GBP range, then it would have been a steller.
Will you be testing the Fiat Jeep BEV thingy?
so the mid-spec car has 20" wheels, so it'll drive like a shopping trolley. Is there not an option for a smoother ride over UK potholes on a high-spec car?
15 years warranty, good range of 320km..... more than enough and charging...we charge at our office and during the night at home. Fast charging very bad for batteries, that's why VW and Tesla only have 2 years warranty, Lexus 15 years, says it all. I think hiven the small battery pack of this car a nice BEV, well build, ultra silent, and comfortable.
I enjoyed watching the Video Review. I particularly like the Exterior Design. I don’t like the Steering Wheel design 😊
As a Lexus owner I’ve been eagerly awaiting this debut. All the less than dynamic features are a Lexus staple. But they’re, comfortable, quiet & 100% reliable. But the woeful range and efficiency means it’s just not justifiable as a principal family car. A shame. Needs another 100miles of range.

So you drive more than 320km daily???? Wow.
That was beeping hilarious haha
With audible beeps and bongs, it feels like you are in a game driving this car. 😆
Vicky likes to get a grip with every trip!😅
I am here for Vicky 😊
Can the bongs be turned off?
It's funny I've been thinking, why don't manufacturers build a really expensive, lumbering, impractical, average -to-drive EV with the range of a (slightly below par) petrol city car? Well at last Lexus has spotted that very same gap in the market. Hurrah!
70k and has less range than a 30 year old base model Corsa 🤣🤡

Base model Corsa isn't an electric SUV which does 0-60 in under 6 seconds so...? lol
If you don’t agree with the terms and conditions what happens? Can you not use the screen ? I wonder what data they are gathering on you while you drive.
That vehicle sums up everything that is wrong in modern vehicles... At £30 000 you might just forget about the flaws but at £70 000 🙄.... A total fail fail for me...

Thanks for the review. However, you did not explain the yoke steering wheel well. The big deal isn't the yoke. The feature that's interesting is that it is variable steer by wire and it has a very small turn lock to lock. The amount of turn you get a lower speeds is much higher than what you get at higher speeds. That's the feature that will makes this different than the Infiniti version and way different from the yoke steering wheel that just sat on type of a mechanical system from Tesla. Toyota could have place any type of wheel on the system and it would be newsworthy. This car to me is a Lexus and Toyota knows they need to get better range.
Cool looking car and I am sure it will sell well to image conscious Lexus drivers as it seems a little underwhelming from a technical and practical perspective - rivals definitely offer more for less. I experienced a similar beep-fest in a rental Camry recently. Despite switching everything off I could find in the cars menus, I could not kill the beeping. At the end of the journey I was happy to climb into my 25 year old and beep-free Volvo. Exactly which markets is beeping a legal requirement or is it just a really really annoying fashion ? This would seriously be a deal breaker for me in a new car.
Vicky steering wheel fetish lol best vid you so far . The yoke steering wheel by Toyota is Completely different to Tesla .
It only beeps a bad drivers 🤣🤣🤣(just kidding) - PS none of the rivals have the same great history of reliability - yes, I know, car journalist don't care about these things going through life driving new cars every day....
0:44 It has bigger exterior than Model Y but because of suboptimal design the interior space is much smaller. Model Y has 30 cubic feet trunk space - 72 cubic feet with rear seats folded. RZ450e has 24 cubic feet trunk and 56 cubic feet with seats folded. More importantly you get 283 mile range and 250 kw peak charging speed with Model Y at 45k pounds. RZ450e is only 250 mile range and 120 kw peak charging speed at 64k pounds.

Model Y also has the full range of creaks and rattles...also rattles from your teeth over the bumps. THey are not comparable cars. Tesla has great tech and speed but build quality is reflected in the limited warranty. Lexus is the opposite - battery tech and efficiency is lagging and it's not as fast, but it's a luxury car. Where I live Lexus has a 10 year warranty. That's a lot of peace of mind on an expensive car with lots of tech. That's what stops me from going with an iX or e-Tron. They only get 3 years.
When the BZ came out and now this I just seem to have a suspicion that Toyota have tipped there hat at providing an EV as that was what is expected and, I doubt, not what they really want to do. I mean, to produce a brand new EV in 2023, with a real world range of 180 ish miles for £60 k plus. Mmm. Were they serious about this? Mmm. Not too sure. As always Vicki, great review.
Han Zimmer sounds for BMW. Playschool keyboard band soundtrack 3' 30" (free of charge) for Lexus
I'll have 2 @ £70k each 😂 so that I can use 1 while the other is laid up charging 🎉
i think thats your heart beat sensor..... i think you have flat lined twice
BYD car platform... just saying. Why isn't this point discussed in the vid?

The RZ450e is built on the e-TNGA platform shared with the Toyota bZ4X and the Subaru Solterra, what connection have you found to BYD? The batteries for all three of these e-TNGA cars come from a joint venture between Panasonic and Toyota called Prime Planet Energy Solutions (PPES).

Is it because it's not relevant?

It's incorrect. You're thinking of the bZ3 sedan and that's for China only. But you have that wrong. The bZ3 is based on the e-TNGA platform and uses BYD's batteries and motors. It does not use a BYD platform.
"Sega" arcade on wheels...
better buy a second hand Jaguar i-Pace then…better despite being 5 year old
❤😊
Not many budget EV cars are there? This is DOA. Way too expensive and way too little range.
No doubt a great EV but just another rich set EV to sit alongside the ICE Ferrari most folk can't afford
70k....🍌
Watched a minute. Learnt the price. Stopped. Irrelevant
No thanks
Electric cars a pish end of story
I wish they would dump the synthetic leather it's not related to leather so shouldn't be called anything related to leather
Car Gurus. I really like this channel. I like the presenters. I like the videos on their own cars. But I feel really sad that I'm going to totally lose interest in modern cars (and your output). From about 2010 (well, 1988 dad was buying me mags and I was memorising the spec pages at the back) I think I've read every Autocar, Car mag, Top Gear article and watched pretty much all videos going. But the death of the fiesta will be a watershed moment as new cheap fun cars die. I have nothing to look forward to (so I'll probably just switch off). EVs leave me completely sterile and I'm already skipping 'ev suv' material cos 1)generic, boring, weighty, utter rubbish, stupid acceleration you don't have to work for, government regs ruining simplicity (bong, bong, etc), and 2) the EV sell from world governments is a total con. I'm a car guy. I love driving my fiesta and I'll keep it. But what can I hope to aspire to next? An e Corsa for 35k. I can't afford that (not when electricity costs eventually go through the roof). I can't afford a Porsche Cayman (let alone whatever the new one will cost) I feel sad for the future. For those of us who just want to 'go for a drive'. On the plus side, with cars becoming the equivalent of a fridge freezer, the fun rural roads will probably get quieter. Sorry, I hope you can generate interest for me and other car guys. This lexus EV just epitomises everything wrong with modern motoring. Ps, I do enjoy your work

I'm in the same boat. It's not the channel's fault though, it's the greedy industry. My last car I bought new 10 years ago. I earn a bit more these days but can't afford a mortgage AND a car. I guess I'll listen to the Tories and get back in my place and jump on the bus when my car goes bang.

Market place is going to be swamped with unwanted EV’s just like this within a few years. Second hand dealers won’t touch them, this whole EV trend is going to fall flat on its face. At least we have Vicky to watch, which is pretty much the only reason I bothered with this video. Bong!
