My parents gave me zero encouragement. I loved music, I was an athlete and was very competitive. I had talent, I got good and it didn’t hurt that women dug it! Lol! I play professionally and I’m a craftsman working in the trades. I knew early on that I needed job to have a career as a musician. I tour, I’m in several original bands and I practice the gypsy stuff on the side.

Thanks Christian! I thought it got deleted because right after I commented and hit enter, it did not post but I see now that it did post but I just could not see it. LOL! First time that happens to me on YT! Thanks for confirming! BTW I am still enjoying the book I purchased about 2 or 3 years ago, the Van Hemert Method! I did it because at that time I was trying to learn Gypsy jazz but decided standard jazz was better for me. Though I love to listen to Gypsy jazz! I still of course use the runs and scales on your book for standard jazz! Cheers!@@ChristiaanvanHemert

HI again Christian! The only issue I had with the first book was the fonts were too tiny for me to read (yep I got bad eyes) so I study it with magnifying glass. For this next book hopefully the fonts especially for the notation and tabs will be bigger or if there is a way to purchase it like pdf so folks with bad eyes can increase the size? @@ChristiaanvanHemert

No offense to Tal but I personally think she is way overrated! I've seen female bass players locally where I live who would smoke her! As for Lex Fridman, can't stand the man...BTW Christiaan you nailed your assessments here! Agree with you 100%!

Thank you! I think Tal is a great player. Lex Friedman I don't know much about but he certainly did have some great guests in his podcast!

I agree! Tal is a great bass player but what I meant was she probably gets exposed more than other female bass players since she played with the great Jeff Beck. Lex is just annoying. to me, but again that is my personal opinion. Cheers!@@ChristiaanvanHemert

It is a mix of talent and luck, discovered at the right place and time. How many stories do you hear out there of great musicians that never made it. She is very good but again it was my personal take that I have seen many female bass players just as good or even better in local bars here. Sometimes luck and connection have a lot to do with it in making it to the top. Also I think it was that whole phenomenon of her being really young and already good at it that added to the allure.@@only4crap
