** Sheet Music available - read below **
I got a request to do a tutorial for Lewis Capaldi's Someone You Loved. Cracking tune! And the piano part's really pretty straight-forward to get your fingers around. Hopefully this little tutorial will help you out. Good luck!
I made sheet music for this song and am happy to privately share to my Patreon supporters. If you enjoyed this video, if it helped you and if you feel you can, please support me on Patreon: / escapetheboxpiano . Alternatively, drop me a message on Facebook.

    I took piano lessons as a kid for a couple of years. I've always wanted to start playing again and this song did if for me. So, 50 years later, here I am loving your tutorial and committing myself to learning how to play songs I love since my daughter is an amazing singer/ songwriter and hopefully I can learn a few of her faves! Thank you so much for taking the time to teach us!

    Thanks for the kind words :) Blimey... er, probably a very big answer to your very short question! Probably deserving of a separate video all to itself. Very briefly, off the top of my head: small amounts of practise EVERY day - make it a regular part of your daily pattern like eating lunch; get used to some amount of practise with a metronome to help you get better at internalising a steady beat; seek out lots of finger exercise videos/books (eg I did a video - kzread.info/dash/bejne/g6Wrta2TaKvdlrg.html - many others out there, of course!); make an effort to learn music notation and, as you learn, make a solid effort to pay attention to, and follow, all fingering guidance... as an evolution over time you will then start to get used to the most effective and economical ways of positioning and moving your hands and individual digits over the keyboard.

  • @EscapeTheBoxPiano

    @EscapeTheBoxPiano

    Hey Zoe, thanks for the question... it's a good one. Essentially if you've got either a 61 or 76 note keyboard, you can't perform this exactly as it is 'out-of-the-box'. But there are a couple of options which immediately spring to mind: 1. 61 note keyboards usually have a C as the lowest note and a total of five octaves. Technically, the range would accommodate everything that's played in this piece, you just need to consider the absolute pitch. Many keyboards will have a 'transpose' button - if yours does, try using it and pitch-shifting the entire keyboard down one octave. 2. Don't play the lower octave note in the left hand. The overall texture you get won't be as rich and resonant but you'll still have the fundamental harmonic essence of the piano part. Hope that helps!

    Hello, I have no idea what a measure is, do I just keep playing the same bit 4 times? I've never touched a piano til today...

  • @EscapeTheBoxPiano

    @EscapeTheBoxPiano

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hey there... yep, I guess the way I talk things through assumes some things. A ‘measure’ (if you’re USA) or ‘bar’ (more common in the UK) is a way of dividing music into equal chunks of time, with a specific number of beats in each measure. Very often in pop music your measures will have four beats in them. For the purposes of this - if you just want to get on with it, yes, probably easiest if you think “play the same bit four times”. Try playing along with the song and see if it sounds like it works :) If you’re motivated to get better and learn more, go seek out some ‘piano basics’ tutorials, online courses, books, private tutor or all of the above!
