It really doesnt matter what Hikaru thinks. I do think the lie detector answer would have changed in some regards if it was recorded after Madrid but would have ultimately been the same. Myself, I think an important distinction is whether Levy just wants to get the GM status, or whether he wants to continue to climb after the fact. And thats all on Levy to decide

true, but than again, 3 GM norms... if he doesn't get a single norm in the next 24 months, I would find it very hard to believe he won't get demotivated by it, considering he has enough money to retire generations of his family...

@@and_I_am_Life_the_fixer_of_all I don't think the issue is the norms. There are plenty of complacent GMs in terms of keeping up with modern styles and new lines. The question is where his motivation ends. Is the goal beating GMs or is the goal getting better at chess? It seems redundant to ask, but for someone like Levy, beating GM is the natural result of getting better at chess so which thing is the drive is most important

@@matthewgellar1442it’s not even the gm’s in the tournament that are the issue. Most of them have hit their ceiling, and have nothing motivating them except for having fun and competitive spirit. Therefore they won’t go above and beyond to research and counter a specific opponent in a way that an IM chasing norms or rating would.

@@ThatGuy-nv7cx I think you'd be surprised by how many people "past their prime" still actively engage with new concepts in their field. Past their ceiling doesn't mean not still the best in the world. Sure, IMs have more motivation to get GM status than anyone in the world, but that pressure breaks most people

I know it gets said a lot already, but your thumbnail guy is amazing, best thumbnails i have seen (including non chess channels as well 😂)

The first step you have to do to accomplish your chess goals is to register to FIDE. Any ELO you have on online chess sites won't be counted, only FIDE's.
