@@royalfun1031 i see this being a popular take bc most would think all the suffering hes been through is not worth being alone in the end but tbh i think its supposed to be empowering/inspiring. it teaches us that no matter what shit gets thrown at you we shouldn’t fall to doomerism because life goes on and we’ll power through to the end. its like isayama quoted typical heroes from marvel when making levi’s character saying ‘with great power comes great responsibility’ his role as the strongest is a heavy one but it was meaningful. levi took it upon himself to ensure all of the survey corps sacrifices had worth and that none of them died in vain.

The fact that Levi survive it all amongst the sea of corpses is just demonically comical. Also, the way he didn’t find anything fulfilling in his accomplishing it is also so impactful. The man just never strays out of his ideals despite all the obstacles both moral and physical he finds on his way. He’s the embodiment of « Dedicating his heart » that’s why he almost never says it. He lives through this motto, Erwin’s motto.

Levi is a reluctant hero. He never felt like he had any purpose in life other than survival. He only chose to follow Erwin out of force (at first) and later decided that it was what was best for him. Him being a hero had no altruistic motive, it was all for himself. Although, down the line, he began to care about the bigger picture.

I think his ending is perfect and I’m so glad he wasn’t killed off. Yes, he’s a popular character and all, but he also represents a flame that can’t be extinguished, an ideal that can’t be erased. He is someone who will live life to the fullest because he knows his comrades would have wanted that for him. And he’ll dedicate his life to making the world a better place and to teaching the younger generation about strength and kindness. You can evidently see this with Gabi and Falco, who are very reminiscent of Isabel and Furlan. This message that everything is a cycle also applies to Levi, too: he is given another chance to lead, to show a new generation how to live with heart and honour. Gabi and Falco symbolize what the scouts gave their lives for: a new life free from the burden of the titan lineage. Although Armin could have served in that role, Levi embodies a belief that hasn’t been fully encapsulated by the 104th, so it’s important that he lives on and inspires others to live with feeling, as you said. If Isayama killed him off then the ending wouldn’t have had that dual nature of being both sad and inspiring. The glimmer of hope we feel at the end is because of Levi. I think Erwin and Hange, as well as all the departed scouts, would be incredibly proud of him. Edit: sorry, I have more to say. Levi is now an Uncle Iroh type of character where his main job is done (ie, fighting) and he can now relax and guide the next generation. He is now a mentor and no longer a soldier. It’s no mere coincidence that people are saying he should open a tea shop like Iroh: I think they lived very similar lives and now find meaning in passing that heart on. Levi needs to live at the end because he needs to pass on this legacy of the scouts. Anyways, that is all.

Levi killing Zeke was more than a simple act of revenge, and it always bothers me when people say it was just that. It was him fulfilling his duty, a promise. Which is why he doesn't buckle and cry saying it wasn't satisfying enough, or anything like that. At first glance, someone like Levi should only be an aspirational ideal, and not a relatable person. Yet, not only is he relatable, he may be the most relatable of the bunch. Isayama is an absolute beast.

He is awesome and all of his action scenes are jaw-dropping they are easily some of the most memorable moments in the series for me. Levi for me is the absolute peak character of AoT. His entire arc is one of overcoming immense tragedy. He is the strongest human soldier to an extent where he alone is established as the hope of humanity at the beginning. Still, he looses everyone. His friends, his Squad, his comrades in the Survey Corps, even Erwin. However, he accepts the consequences of his choice and trusts in Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Jean and the other few remaining Survey Corps. Yet Eren turns against them, Zeke forces him to kill alot of his comrades and then he barely escapes death, becoming a cripple pretty much. However he keeps going, because he still feels this obligation. He even looses Hange, his last remaining friend but still forces his almost dysfunctional body into battle one last time. At the end of the battle, he cannot even stand anymore, 80% of humanity have died, making their victory questionable, yet he sees his comrades for one last time and decides that the fragile future that is visible on the horizon warrants all the sacrifices he made. The one tear he allows to flow encapsulates so much for me. It might be my favourite panel in the entire manga. And I could not imagine a better conclusion to his character. A cool edgy OP character who would cause plot holes or be killed off in other series is Attack on Titans magnum opus character. I love Levi man.

  • @ren1134

there’s a certain pain in seeing humanity’s strongest soldier weakened, wheelchair bound, missing an eye & two fingers. however the last scene of him looking at the lollipop before giving it to that child, i felt some sort of feeling sink into him, like this is his life now, he holds a lollipop & not a sword, he’s surrounded by children, the hopes of the future, not by his comrades who he is robbed of through death time & time again. it is sad to see such a symbol of strength in a vulnerable position. but this was the perfect ending for levi. there was one scene in season 1 where he told a dying comrade “you’ve done more than enough.” & we can all agree, levi too has done more than enough. he can finally rest. & not only that, levi has ALWAYS been soft hearted with a hard exterior to protect that soft heart. he’s living a life now where he doesn’t need to be strong with that exterior anymore. he’s safe to feel, safe to care, safe knowing his attachments to people won’t be cruelly ripped away from him at any given moment. i wanna take this time to mention that one scene with his dying comrade again. he had just finished looking at his bloodied hand from killing a titan, saying “disgusting” & wiping his blades clean, when petra called him over to talk to the dying soldier. that soldier asked him if he had been useful to humanity. he wanted to know before he passed. he reached out a bloody hand & levi grabbed it firmly without a moment of hesitation to tell him “you’ve contributed more than enough. & you will continue doing so. i’ll carry on your will & it will give me strength! i swear to you, i will exterminate the titans no matter the cost!” as he said this, they showed that his hand was still firmly gripping his dying comrade’s hand, & blood trickled down levi’s hand, though it was not his own, he didn’t let go until he knew the man had passed. levi set aside his germophobia to comfort his fallen brother in the time he needed it most. this speaks to exactly the kind of man levi is. levi has always been one of the most compassionate, consistent & reliable characters in the series. it would be far too cruel to have killed him off after everything he’s done & been through, he deserves to finally have some peace in his life with nothing more asked of him. he deserves to finally be happy without being afraid of it being ripped away from him. anyone who doesn’t like levi just truly doesn’t understand his depth, his heart, & his reflection of some of the best quailities in humanity. he deserves the very best after everything he’s gone through & this was the sweetest, most fitting ending for him. edit: i wrote this comment before watching the video as i was inspired by reading other comments, so i don’t mean to be redundant, i just realized the scene i spoke of is directly included in the video just different translation

i dont think levi was so desperate to kill zeke exclusively because of zeke...rather, he is introduced as a man whose purpose is to strive to give meaning lives of his fallen comrades, and his conflict with zeke is a manifestation of his tragic failure to do this - that is, until he kills him. it seems more that his fixation with killing zeke is a desperate attempt to give meaning to those lives, since (as isayama mentioned in an interview, or something of the like) levi experiences compassion more deeply than anyone else in the survey corps

The idea that Levi is the last of the old guard was an idea that hung in the back of my mind since I read Hanji’s death in the manga but hearing you say it out loud really hammered it home. And damn does that put an ache in my chest as if I’m grieving for a real life person. Hearing you say “he is truly alone” destroyed me. Now that I think about it, I wouldn’t have been mad if Isayama had killed off Levi. There were so many times throughout the story where Levi lost people he cared deeply about and each time I thought to myself “The weight of every loss would become so unbearable to me I don’t understand how he hasn’t given up from sheer exhaustion, because I sure as hell would have.” It almost would have been poetic for him to join his comrades in the afterlife after fulfilling his promise and contributing to humanity’s victory. Hell the state he’s left in afterwards makes me feel as though it would’ve been merciful for him to finally be able to rest in peace. That said, I still love the conclusion his character was given regardless. I would love to see a spin off of his interactions with Gabi and Falco after everything was over.

I love how the No Regrets OAD emphasizes the fact that after the tragic event that happens in that prequel, he chooses from then on to not regret a single action he ever makes in his life. Because he knows he's going to be faced with hard choices. In order to make progress and see the dreams of his comrades, and humanity come to pass, he has to act no matter the consequences. It's a pretty healthy mindset to have in real life, we all make mistakes, but the feeling of regret is an unproductive emotion that doesn't get us anywhere. We do need to acknowledge our mistakes, learn from them and process what we've done, but we can't let the feeling of regret control us, otherwise we can't keep moving. Levi faces his demons internally but doesn't let them control him. I also love how he was basically born to make other people's dreams come true, he isn't like Eren who has a selfish desire to get what he wants. Everything Levi does is for other people, he doesn't have any real dreams of his own, if there was one I think it would be his dream is to realize other people's dreams. I want to word this all better but I'm terrible at explaining how I feel. This story, while somewhat divisive right now, is gonna age a lot better than a lot of other things coming out right now. A decade from now, I think people will look back at this series and remember it more than most anime. Just like we do with Death Note, Gurren Lagann, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Baccano (that last one isn't exactly talked about much today but I wish it was).

Levi is that one friend we all have. The friend that is always interested in your well being & growth. The friend that shares his strength to fly & show his people the parts of the world they never get to see. Levi is the one friend you can count on to actually listen & give you advice because he cares not because he finds it beneficial for him. There’s this saying, “those who live in hatred from lost of love, know what true love is”. Levi ironically without having to show it is the most emotional person in the show, he always has to suck it up and keep moving forward. Where other characters like eren can express their feelings and everything which is fine, I just think Levi’s character sticks out more when we see him angry but don’t see him cry. He cares but only willing to express that care through action, a friend everyone had a one point or still do, regardless it’s a friend worth cherishing.

this feels like full circle to my journey watching your videos, as the first video of yours i watched was your erwin analysis, back in 2019. i’ve always absolutely adored your perspective regarding attack on titan, whether it be the individual characters or themes. as levi is such a popular character, it can be common for misconceptions to spread among the fan base, but i just love how you’ve nailed his character, particularly how much he feels, and his connections to erwin and hange. every time my brain decides to get back into snk, the first thing i do is rewatch your videos. so thank you for enriching my perspective of the story since 2019

Actually there was a purpose to levi killing zeke beyond fulfilling erwins final command. Once levi kills zeke, eren no longer has access to a member of the royal bloodline and the colossal titans stop moving, which ends the rumbling.

It is good to clarify though. Unfortunately, I have encountered plenty of people who genuinely think that Levi killing Zeke accomplished literally nothing to help humanity, and was just an act of personal revenge. Many have the impression of Levi just being an edgy violent badass and think that his character isn't deep at all. That is why I super appreciate this video and hope it gets lots of views!@@Aleczandxr

It's a pity that few people understand the reason why killing Zeke during the rumbling was so important to Levi. At that moment, he took it not just as a promise, he took it as Erwin's last order, by fulfilling which Levi could stop the genocide. He considered this his mission and, despite all his injuries, did not give up, fighting for that future and the world to which all his comrades devoted their hearts. In all that time, I've only seen three people, including me, who have figured it out.

In Flanders fields, the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, that mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid, the guns bellow. We are the dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, loved and were loved, and now we lie, in Flanders fields Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields In Flanders fields - John McCrae

Not a lot made me super emotional during the last season. I didnt even cry when sasha died. I felt so disconnected from the story. Still do 😂

Honestly I still can't get over how stupid Levi was when capturing Zeke and strapping a thunderspear in him. It's overkill as a deterrent when Levi needs Zeke alive either way, and as we saw when it does work it would have killed Levi as well.

  • @adriant240

I guess the plot demanded it so that Levi could be sidelined from the upcoming fight. Levi said that he underestimated Zeke's resolve. He didn't think Zeke would be able to pull off something like that which would put Zeke's life in danger.
