I have those books. They are great! I like the part where Scott talks about the different tribes of comic creators. Iconoclast, animist, classic, etc. I love comics, what's great about comics is how they can surprise you. You have a plot but then the characters go and do something completely different! Thanks for the video :)

Yes! Scott is fantastic!!!
I would add two books to your list. First, is Framed Ink: Drawing and Composition for Visual Storytellers by Marco Mateu-Mestre. It is an excellent deep-dive into single panel and sequential continuity design for visual storytelling. I think this book is as important to have in your arsenal as Understanding Comics and Comics and Sequential Art. The other book I would highly recommend is Filth & Grammar: The Comic Book Editor's (Secret) Handbook by Shelly Bond. Bond was the 2nd editor to join DC's Vertigo comics line; the book is a great overview and insight into how to not just make comics, but make comics better and more successfully. There's a mix of prose and comic art throughout with a number comic professionals contributing to the book. Very highly recommended for anyone who wants to make comics.

Framed INK is a wonderful book! Now I have to go find my copy , I know it’s here somewhere! 🤘🏻
Blitz, Preston Blair, Walt Stanchill, Stan Lee, the list goes on and on. Oh and for learning humor, Robin Halls Cartoonists workbook, and Chris Hearts Drawing on the funny side of the brain. Tom Richmond Mad Art Of Caricature, Jack Hamm - anything he wrote, bunch of stuff from disney and all the animators. Yeah, it is a great time to love cartooning!

That's a good one too!
Loved "Reinventing Comics" and remember the idea of the "infinite canvas" blowing my mind when I first read it.

Yes! Amazing concept!
A great eye-opener, DJ. As you know, I've been working to take that next step. Thank you for this!

You got this!
I remember a lot of artists argued against the whole infinite canvas idea, and I recall several well known webcomic artists even going so far as verbally attacking those who experimented with the idea. I remember Cat Garza got a LOT of flack for his attempts at it.

Yep. Also Cat Garza is an amazing talent. Webcomics back then was a strange place
I own understanding and making comics by McCloud. Reading these books back in 2018 while I embarked my journey as a comic creator, my favorite chapters is of the choices of movement, action, aspects, scenes Or subject in sequential storytelling. For another book I’d recommend is “writing and illustrationg the graphic novel by Daniel cooney” this is a gateway for me in 2012.

Thanks for the recommendation!
I remember there was your strip way back when where Matthew Lesko beats up a random guy. Which year & month was that?
