I asked a pretty girl at my school if she’d go with me to a Level 42 concert if I bought the tickets. She said yes. That was 1987, she said yes again in 1989 and we’ve been happily married ever since.

God, this version is SO crisp. You can tell they know they're on their game. Great mix too!

Yep I like it too. My only criticism of this is that it's somewhat quick....I prefer it at a slower groove. Phil's drums on the studio version have possibly the greatest feel over anything else in the entire catalogue!!
Level 42 were genius at this point. I think World Machine and the A Physical Presence live album this year captured them at their absolute best. Still brilliant live today but the Gould brothers, the timing, the song writing etc nailed it perfectly that year.
L42 at their best with the Brothers Gould. RIP Boon Gould; no one will remember you like EVH -- but you were a brilliant guitarist, who knew how to make the most of space and "silence," in order to make the whole band sound great.

He made me pick up the guitar..he's better than EVH imho
Mark King and Mike Lindup look so incredibly young in this clip. The old KZread time machine is up to its funky tricks again. Many thanks.🌞🙏🇬🇧🌞
I remember it like it was yesterday ( wish it was) sat in my late parents front room, with my tape recorder on,( making everyone be quiet 🤫)still got the cassette somewhere, fantastic memories. I did buy the lp btw 😉😎✊💖
Hard to believe, this is 35 years ago today. (as of October 17 2020). Sounds as good now, or even better since this first broadcast.
So many memories: Phil Gould made this band. After he (Phil and his brother left) they never sounded the same. Just like the Pretenders when James & Pete past..The Pretenders never sounded the same but I still love this group L42 and the Pretenders on how great Mark & Michael write and perform. I just glad I grew up watching and listening to them. How fast time flies.

Phil and Boon wrote lyrics that were unbelievably sophisticated. That writing was not there when they left.
Это супер! Музыка моей юности В 90-х Слушал их пластинку , по звуку как будто с этого концерта записана. Все у кого был их пласт с надписью LEVEL 42 Ставьте лайк?
At the time, we never thought that THIS level of musicianship would be a 'thing' in Popular Music……And yet 30yrs later there is NO such thing as the 'Top Forty' or anything like what music is popular in our country…Fascinating, no?!
Total perfection - wonderful!
SOOOOOoooooo badass !!!!!!! The Gould Brothers, and Mike Lindup were all like The Who. All lead players playing at the same time and making it work like magic. Boon's guitar lines were SOOoooo perfect and so many egomaniacal guitar players would have never felt ok with that little bit of exposure, but Boon served the songs, as Alex Lifeson swears is the formula.
I love the opening slide on the bass, and what a deep sound from it aswell. 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Amazing band Huge fan since early eighties
Dunno what octaver Mark King has on his bass but whatever it is it sounds HUGE!!!! It's dropping down to the low C and D notes with ease and its shaking the floor!!!!

World Machine is a criminally under rated album. I wore my copy thin from October 1985 until I lost it moving house in 1999. RIP, Boon. Peace at last.

Mark King is a real worker;nice to see and ofcource hear!Even in 2022;thats amazing!!
Killer band- real musicians ✅
I was skiing in France in 1984 listening to this when I hit gravel and faceplanted at about 50mph. I had SANYO imprinted backwards on my chest from my walkman. Happy birthday for tomorrow Mark, I always remember because it's mine too, and weirdly Snoop Dog's
This is the REAL LEVEL 42, the ORIGINAL QUARTET, Mark, Mike, Phil and Boon (RIP)!!!
One of my favorite Songs!!!
Absolutely SUPURB! A Real LIVE performance & every Note, Nuance, Instrument, & Vocal was Seasoned to PERFECTION! I Love the warmth of Mark's JD Bass, Boon's licks & harmonics ... just WOW... This is a rare broadcast indeed given it's not lip-sync'd which was so common in the day. Thanks for this post!

I wish this virus would stop it's physical presence. Then I could see my favourite band live again. 💖💖💖💖

I don't have a TV and I haven't seen any evidence of people dropping like flies other than from lack of normal medical care for a range of illnesses. Perhaps the 'virus' is a cover for something rather more sinister?

The virus is doing so badly because it can easily be outwitted by constantly changing the rules to confuse it. It isn't normal to close down the World for a mild flu, when 1 in 3 people die of cancer not even a single country closed down to stop the spread.
Love this song !!!!!
Better live sound balance there than many know how to do these days.
wow 35 years ago, to be exact, and what a extraordinary clear recording...! it seems like yesterday.!
THE HIGHEST TOTAL MAGNIFICENCE SONG OF ALL TIME☆☆☆☆☆☆☆!!!!!!!

Man, this takes me back….
Mark King and Phil Gould- the baddest jazz-funk rhythm section- and how good was that Jaydee for finger style as well as slap....I met Krys Mach (sax) on a gig for the old Eastenders tv show-super guy... Level 42...THIS was some great music and the Tube was cool tv show to feature them...

Level 42 The best
Phil Gould made a difference. He's ao far past everyone. He went right over everyone's heads. He's in the discussion with Porcaro, Gadd, Rich, Colaiuta, Weckl, Peart, etc, etc. He's fully giving himself to the music. He's the most selfless drummer, and knows how to give the performance EXACTLY what it needs.
Yeahhhh!!! 😎
Rip Boon I love you
Phil groove rules!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARK!!! ;-)
Recorded the day the album came out... I wonder if they even had a hint at what the next 5 years of their lives would be like after that day.

An amazing live performance.
At the breakdown at 4:10 ish, what do they sing ? It's only bothered me for about 35 years 🙂
I want to point out 2 lyric "changes" by Mark King in this performance. He sings "the movement in your thighs," which is supposed to be "the movement in your eyes." Naughty boy! Then the final verse he sings, which I can't make out at all, except for reading his lips saying the last two words: "bull shit." No really, check for yourself!😆
I agree but I wish I could see my son
