Right on. It's a grand strategy game, after all. If one wants to micro individual divisions I'd strongly suggest HOI 3. I find it much more nuanced in terms of actual battles. For production etc. HOI 4 is better - as well as for utilizing the AI.
The reason why I LOVE field hospitals are the bonuses you get for having more experienced units, +25% for regular and I think it’s another 25% for every level after that. That’s why you were able to steamroll them in my opinion. They are expensive, but I think they’re worth it

It's not that they're useless it's more that the trade-offs don't make a lot of sense. If you have the industry for field hospitals you also often have a fairly good manpower pool and similarly if you lack manpower you often also lack the industry for field hospitals.

@@purplefood1 I've been grinding my volunteer divisions and finding that even if I get to Veteran experience, the moment I get supply back I go down to seasoned or even regular experience. If I thought to put field hospitals on my best units it might have been easier to make them Veteran.

@@J7Handle Yeah most conversations around the field hospitals are to do with manpower rather than XP retention,
Look at the experience of your units. That's the real benefit
Probably the easiest way to test how effective they are is make a save. Have the battle plan play itself with field hospitals. Reload the save, remove field hospitals from division template, and run the exact same battle plan. At the end compare the casualties to see the difference.
@Ilya18
Жыл бұрын
I've actually done this exact test months ago as Germany vs USSR. My result was that I had twice fewer casualties, despite using level 3 hospitals at -40% casualties. I think that hospitals are definitely good, but it's just a shame that they're a pain to produce due to needing two production lines. Because of this, the small countries that would benefit the most from them usually can't afford them.

I always use field hospitals and maintenance support. Your division normally dont lose because they are weaker, but because they cannot reinforce the manpower nore equipment fast enough.

Thank you, someone has finally said it. Idk but every since by blood alone, loss of equipment is so severe that if you aren't producing like 100+ guns per day you can't win easily
@theaverageitaliandon998

@@jakecoyne3919 honestly attrition rates after by blood alone have been outrageous, your soldiers go through infantry equipment like toilet paper .
Field hospitals have a runaway effect associated with them, due to how a general (or a field marshal) receives points toward his next promotion. Promotion points earned each day have a multiplier, based on the day's casualty ratio. If the casualty ratio is in your favor for example by 4 to 1 or more, your general gets points toward his next promotion at 4x the nominal rate, while the enemy general gets points toward his next promotion at only 0.25x the nominal rate. If your general and your field marshal are as a result is getting promotion points 16 times as fast as the enemy general and the enemy field marshal, your general and your field marshal soon get combat bonus gains that the enemy general and field marshal won't see for a long time, tipping the casualty ratio even more in your favor. Short version: A field hospital support company helps your generals and field marshals get promoted, which in turn leads to the casualty ratio shifting even more in your favor.
So if you’re a big enough power, you can afford to throw the lives away. Historical
Field Hospitals are a must-have for countries that have semi-decent industry for their size but no manpower, like Hungary. They are also severely underrated because they are a long-term investment, and few play long games.
Paradox needs to make it so Manpower has subdivisions. A certain percentage of it should be trained, and that allows for replenishing divisions of higher experience that have taken losses. It should be faster to produce a division of trained manpower too. Field hospitals should take a certain percent of casualties, and add them to the trained manpower pool, to represent them having to recover and eventually either returning to the front or transferring to something else.
one of the fun thing when by blood alone came out, idk if they fix this. but Switzerland focus give your field hospital so much trickle back that you actually gain manpower when fighting.
I used them a lot as Denmark , it was my only way to save at least some manpower while holding axis back
Field Hospitals have always been strong in the way the thought people would play, or how most normal players do. Using them and battleplans not only gets more experience on their units, and their generals as well since less casualties helps them level too and both compliment each other. While other ways to play has come and gone, field hospitals have always been strong as that is how they intend people to play, but always weaker than micro managing and using whatever is found to be strongest that particular patch.

@Mr Quiz what I said, it was bugged last time I checked.
You have to keep in mind you're basically not losing man power so long you're defending only. You're break even in XP rather then losing it. Mix in losing no war support. So long you don't instantly lose in defenses, you can just run out their man power and win. A simular thing happens with equipment squads. You can end up stealing more then you lose depending on the set up.
Whenever I play as Belgium, field hospitals are essential if you’re going to last more than six months

I don't know what the problem with battleplans is... I always use them and never lose.

Thanks for doing an analysis on field hospitals! I was quick to M.A.S.H. the like button.
You can actually check the battle log to check your "real" casualties - before the trickleback is applied. Personally, i don't think Field Hospitals are good in early game, vanilla, HOI4, but with expert ai and in 1943 - 1944 (you know, when the game is actually hard), they're quite useful. Especially when fighting a attrition war a against really buffed USSR as Germany, that 40% less casualties is incredibly useful.
Thanks for the French musics, love to hear an accurate theme like this!
when you had Toreadors start playing i got flash backs because i just had an Orchestra Concert that we played it in.
If you have a save from before the big push, a second push without hospitals would give something to compare to.
The Field Hospital can also make a difference in battle. Different exp has -25%,0%,25%,50%,75% buffs. If you trains your units into level 3 wit 25% buff. Without it, it is easily went back to level 2 with 0%, level 2 into level 1 -25%. This is sth not mentioned in video.
The ocean‘s eleven editing at the end… so beautiful

@Mr Quiz You see, with the new Dlc By blood alone a feature has come in where casualties reduce your war support but when you have field hospitals your overall casualties sink
The biggest use is for small nations without much manpower, there's also the plus of retained XP but in general if you're playing an easier major nation there's not much use for em' that super much.
Hi Dave! Loves from Turkey!
i like field hospitals because the need to RP has my soul in a deathgrip.
Thanks bro
"FrenchBackGaming" was amazing lol
I like field hospitals in high-industry, low-manpower nations, which needless to say is exceptionally rare, but the few that exist (Belgium or the Baltics for example) I find they do rather well on.
Fun fact, if you core Algeria you can lose everything on the west side of the river going through France (forgot the name)
ngl that picture for the light tank looked really really vile
Switzerland has a focus that also grants some bonuses to trickleback rate
I kinda really wonder how much more combat effective veterans are than regulars and experienced divisions. Because if it's a considerable amount, I've always seen field hospitals as insanely good, even if you micro. I never focused on the casualties, but rather on the exp loss.
I would’ve thought that field hospitals would be useful in breakthrough units so they can keep their high level of verterancy and benefit from the bonus stats. Whenever I use tanks or some type of breakthrough like that they don’t really ever go above lvl 2 xp so they don’t get any bonuses.
Now I wonder if maxed anti-tank guns could make an infantry division destroy enemy tank divisions
>Me who used Field hospitals since ever because i felt sorry about my soldiers
It should be possible to make a savegame just before the war and fight the same fight with and without FH in the template. Then compare the end results on your toop experience, manpower, losses etc. I wonder if this affects equipment losses too?
FeedBackGaming, as a French I would like you to go in the past and take control of the entire French army

I have been trying to tell people about this.
They're a godsend for going inf with small pop nations cough cough Canada that does steel car
Does the XP retention work as intended? I feel like the bonus itself could be quite useful if so, help keep high experience divisions - But at the same time I wouldn't be surprised considering how some mechanics in HOI either don't work at all or not as intended (Is the Maintenance like that? I feel like equipment capture is crap, I tried it and Field hospitals for a PRC game in the 8 Years resistance mod and I was always struggling for manpower and guns basically until I had united china, and I had a decision giving another 1% equipment capture and had managed to snag some more territory in the west for manpower and industry but yk)
I am personally bad at the game so most of the time I would battleplan and then if its necessery to fasten the war I will do small amount of micro
