Can't believe this got recommended. Never would have thought some early 2000's British hip hop would get a reaction. The whole album "Original Pirate Material" is a lot of fun and worth a listen.

Mike Skinner is probably the only rapper that can rap off beat yet make it work, that is his style, for me he's more of a poet than a rapper.

Just here to second this. Mike is a genius and a great writer. He sees the beauty in the world. His new album is great. His music is a way of conveying his poetry.
Love The Steets. Mike is a genius. This first album was all recorded by him at his bedroom. I think it's in the first song that in the intro if you listen really close you can hear his mom yelling at him to go eat. His storytelling is amazing. More The Streets please!
The Streets was a HUGE deal for me. I was a teenager when this song/album hit and I loved hearing an MC like Mike Skinner do this clever spoken word rapping about everyday life. He made 5 albums between 2002 and 2011 and I think they're the perfect sound of that decade. "Make yourself at home We got diesel or some of that homegrown Sit back in your throne and turn off your phone 'Cause this is our zone Videos, televisions 64s, PlayStations"

Massive...Skinner & Co (The Streets) British vibe...& Captured a Decade when British music was delivering. Great Live !!!!
yeah bro we’re gonna need more streets. i fuck with this dude so hard. dude’s style is inimitable and his viewpoint is unique as fuck. check out so more. dude makes bangers, tearjerkers, smoke songs, relationship songs, comedy songs...no one is like the streets. those first two albums are untouchable.
"I saw this thing on ITV the other week, Said...that if she plays with her hair she's probably keen She's playing with her hair well regularly So I rekon I could well be in" What a tune that 1 was!! 👌👌
WHOA! You did The Streets! F*CK YEAH! I'm still a big fan of Mike Skinner. Other songs to check out by em: Blinded By The Lights Don't Mug Yourself Prangin Out Never Give In Fit But You Know It Momento Mori Can't Con An Honest John The Streets cadence needs some getting used to but that is what was so interesting about em when they popped up on the scene in 2002 and I was sooooooo here for it, they were ALL OVER nearly every music magazine, website, etc. Definitely worth getting into an digging deeper into their discography.

So many great tracks. Mike Skinner is the streets he wrote the whole album 'original pirate material' in his bedroom. His album a grand don't come for free is a masterpiece concept album
Had to watch it again. I'm hip to the beat because of all the dance hall and ska I used to listen to in the '80s.
I had the first album Original Pirate Material when it first come out (before all the charts hype). I gave a copy to my mate when i visited him in Barbados in 2005. He loved it. It was the soundtrack when we'd drive around the island LOUD. Along with Sunship's Almighty Father featuring Warrior Queen, The Bug's early flirting with dancehall and various mixtapes by Soundmurderer. What a holiday that was. The Streets' delivery style can be traced back to the MC's of a genre known as speed garage and then 2-Step. He was like the transition from an mc that compliments a live dj to that of a carrying a full album by himself with his own production with a 2 Tone influence. It was a breath of fresh air when it came out.

Skinner a real bad arse poet & producer. Really talented act. The Streets ;))
Mike Skinner is the singer here of English band The Streets .Fit but you know it and Dry your eyes 2 other songs I remember of theirs ! This a Good One !😊👌💯
“Fit But You Know It” is a jam by The Streets.
"Sharp Darts" by the Streets
They say that everything sounds the same. Then you go buy them! Same today as 20 years ago
Mike was also massively influenced by 90s rave and his thing is to create music and stage events that get people vibing.
One of my all time favorite hip hop artists. I consider my taste in hip hop/rap to be off the beaten path. Really glad to see your reaction to The Streets. Thanks for the video!
I remember banging this album when it released, the year after I graduated. Haven't heard it since. Thanks.
This whole album is so damn good
I liked it. Do some more of these guys, see how it goes.
Love this song. Been obsessed since it came out.
When i first listened to the streets I thought it was shit . Now they are my most listened to . One of the most respected in hip by other grime artists .
Oh wow i was just reintroducing myself with this guy yesterday so im so ready for this! Check out: don't mug yourself, too much brandy, irony of it all, you're fit and you know it. Very strange delivery but it works, it takes some people a little while to get used to it. Cult classic, not best seller

Get amongst these Guy's...The Streets...Great songs...check out :Blinded By The Lights" if you were into going clubbing back in the late 90s early 000's you'll get onto this tune.
I like The Streets because it bridges a gap between music tastes. Personally grime is generally one of my most avoided genres, but I adore music that uses unconventional techniques and experimentation like jazz, IDM, psychedelic, noise, and art rock. I find I can really appreciate the delivery in songs like this and it helps me to get immersed in genres I usually wouldn’t. Alternatively, I feel like The Streets really helped bring more unconventional music to the spotlight and introduced a whole generation of Brits to the more avant garde side of music and how far you can really push the formulas of a genre.

Original pirate material amazing. I’m an American 😂

I remember this was massive in 02 Zane Lowe said the first track “ turn the page” is one of the best opening tracks on an album out there
This is cool! I like it!
Love it that you know Mike now.. His song We Never Went To Church is so deep and profound. All about his Father passing and the void left.. Honesty its beautiful and Mike is a poet rather than singer.
Young Mike dissin the Artful Dodger, who was king at the time, forever iconic
You definitely need to do some more of The Streets.
The streets define a certain generation, Bob Dylan for the club and street generation of the era 🇮🇪👍👍👍
DARTS & TREBLE 20 (180)....& Bullies Special Priiiize!!! ""Let's push things 4ward""..."We Say BIRDS..not BITCHES" forward. Congrats Teeze 10K
This is different......i like it 😊
Ah, Thanks! I found something new and cool. awesome!
Mike skinner is probably my favourite producer, his beats, along with his spoken word style of rap, and phenominal chorus's, just feel right, his beats always have this uniqueness to them, not following standard format, pushing things forward some might say Some people say The Streets are overrated, i just think those people need to listen closer
Ah....hahaha..not chuckling bout the lyrics but there is a different impact with the Brit accent. I'll have to look up the lyrics as there were a few words/phrases that eluded me.

Which parts?
Skinner's a Brummie Hero ⚽🔵
What most fans of The Streets/Mike Skinner don't realise is that there were originally a few other MCs in the group when it was based in Birmingham. Then Skinner signed a record deal in secret, told the other band members he had to move to London for family reasons and a few months later his album Original Pirate Material was released, containing a ton of lyrics, verses and hooks that were written and originally performed by the other members that he'd snaked. Great guy...
Blinded by the lights is a good track
We dont need to be loved, we only need to be British

Has It Come to This is a totally different track from that album. No clue who screwed the pooch on that one.
Around here we say “birds” not “bitches.”
Peace is there any chance you can react to my first single warning dropping on Monday. it's called Warning
I love when you can tell the Brit is a Brit. Don't hide that beautiful accent. (One of my only digs against the Beatles).

You can hear their accents often
It’s more spoken word than rap
Ska?
fit but dont you know it is better than this by them
